one more, ok, through the picture, the style that the panasonic gorilla is like this -
tapi, ada jugak org2 lain tak kira mat salleh ke, melayu ke, cina ke, india ke, yg dressed up macam ni, so, why the african community are very angry with the picture? is the african REALLY dressed up like that in their daily life? i dont think so...., unless if the style are already pattern by them.... come on, actually the billboard problem is not about the rasicst issue at all, personally the problem is more about the perception among the people..., different person, different perception..... |

I have several friends who are African-American who works here. When I showed them that advert & asked them whether it is a racist or not, some of them said..
1. "stupid advert that doesn't make sense relating a gorilla to a battery..??"
2. "Mr T wannabe. Nice try"
3. "Nahh...I don't give a sh*t about it"
4. "what ever it is, I don't buy it"
None of them said about racist thingy and never felt that way too.
What ever it is, like I said before, please forward your concern to Panasonic Malaysia. This is an open forum. Positive and negative comments are everywhere. You have to swallow it |

Siti Nurhaliza is not representing the whole Malay community.. She make her own identity, not all Malay is following her style. so does Mr T, his style is not representing the whole African American.. unless the hair do is traditional such as the gorilla wearing the 'baju kurung' or 'cheongsam'.. that can be considered racist |

Thank you very much for your understanding, i can see you are educated and well learned..that oni313 is a Kampung....clearly you understand how Africans feel to see such a bill board...2 wrongs can never make a right, however you do have a point that Africans can be sometimes disrespectful towards Malaysians ,but If i were to go into the reasons..it would be very long..Thank you for your response once again..i am glad you even posted a pic of Mr T and you understand this

this is equivalent to dressing up a Borneo Gorilla in a Jackie Chan traditional chinese clothing or similar and making an advert out of it..how would you feel if we did this??? or what if i dress up Siti Nurhaliza to look like a Gorilla how would you feel??....
aku tak rasa org HK atau china akan sentap kalau gorilla tu pakai cheongsam sekalipun...dan takde msian yg nangis guling2 atas lantai kalau gorilla tu pakai baju tok ti ke atau tok ti nak jadi gorilla tu |

Your African friends are just too polite to reply that it is racist...and sorry i dont believe you asked them if it is racist because here in Malaysia people are so coward that nobody ever has the courage to talk about race or racism all you keep hearing is "sensitive" , "sensitive" , "sensitive" . This is the only place where you all seem to have some liver or courage, on a blog site..so sorry i cant accept you asked you African friends..also depends on the calibre of African you asked and how exposed and knowledgable he is..there are some African who you let into Malaysia , who some of us dont even let into a common supermarket back in Africa because they are not worthy i wonder how they manage to board an aeroplane and enter this country, But your immigressen is not doing thier job..they fail to screen and let in only the right types of Africans, especially when it comes to Nigerians..thats why you tend to have negative attitudes towards Africans , its not my fault you immigressen so lazy they put thier foot on thier desk and drinking tetarik!...instead for them to scuitinize carefully and only let in genuine students and tourist who will have positive impact on Malaysian society..as you can see i am one of the right decisions your imigressen made thats why i can have quality exchange of information and conversation with you , and try to talk about how to make this world a less racist world and a better place, because there is one thing i can assure you..it is inevitable that out children and our childrens children, Asian and African will work hand in hand in the future , business and politics etc..the world has become a very small place and its very important we understand eachother now and put aside our bias to make the world a better place |

Yes thank you , i am planning to write to the daily sun also..it doesnt matter how big this company called panasonic is the bottom line is people in this region of the world are so racist they dont even have an idea of when they have crossed the line..practicing Racism is just as normal as washing your hand or brushing your teeth..its a normal thing in this society..and parent teach their children how to be racist..I can understand if the older generation of Malaysians are racist but i dont understand why 15,16,20 year old Malaysians are racist..i wonder what the future holds. Especially if you are born and bred in malaysia it will be hard for you to really understand that you are racist only people who travelled overseas for years and lived overseas will really realize that in malaysia you have serious issues and sometimes in a FRIENDLY way i feel like asking all 3 races to face the wall and turn their back to me while i give them a good flogging and caning because thier is no one race that is the devil..all the races are the same and equally flawed |

It starts from basic hatred |

Okay Moderator i will take it easy i promise but i speak this way because even a member of this blog who is a Malay PM'ed me and said the following:
"There is indeed much ignorance in the Malaysian society. Racism is not only widespread in the society but is sanctioned by the law and government policies, as you would have known. For a society in which discrimination based on ethnicity is institutionalised, one would expect blunders such as the gorilla billboard advertisement, even from a big and well-known company" |

actually, the problem is about the billboard, that contain a gorilla with a punk stlyle hair,
my question, does the african are REALLY dress up like that in their daily life?
previously, you call me a 'kampung minded', that are really considered as RACISM!, in malaysia for your information, the calling of kampung can be described as a racism issue, again, I remind you, you as an outsider have to pay respect first to us...
secondly, ok, you as an african, who are you as an outsider to teach us about rasicm, civilised people , educated, and so on?
is your country are really good enough?
the problem arise when you stated that the billboard is a rasicm where most of the forumer here says that there's are no element of racism at all on the billboard, did the the punk style hair are really pattern by the african? |

masalahnyer tuan moderator, dia ni dahla orang luar, pastu nak mengajar2 kita pulak hal adab sopan santun,
sedangkan billboard tu pun takde ape nye elemen rasis, ade ker org afrika yg betul2 dress up cam tu dlam daily life diorg? atau style tu mmg dh diorg patern kan ker kt unesco? dlam ramai2 afican, die sorg je yg tetibe sentap sngat bila tngok billboard tu..... |

I didn't expect neither you nor others to believe what I wrote up there. Maybe you might think that I just made up some stories to back up my points. What I did is just for information sharing so that we can analyze the situation. Those are gathered from credible professionals who had been working in Malaysia for more than 10 years. Some of them already married with the locals. I cannot measure how "polite" the answer from them because it is based on perceptions. Different people have different perceptions like oni313 said but that doesn't mean they are insensitive with the issues. You expect them to say "Malaysia is full of racism?" just to satisfy with your ideas? It goes back to the square one. What you might think may not the same with others.
Racism is a very sensitive issue. By having Malays, Chinese, Indians and other minorities that mixed together, it was far more complex than you could imagine. We are not cowards as you might think as it will create racial tension among others that could widespread all over the country thus causing chaos. Most of us didn't want that to happen.
Err..shall we focus on the billboard thingy please?
p/s: Your command in Bahasa are quite good. Where do you learn it? |
