Yossi: New boys not to blame

West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun has insisted new signings Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez are not to blame for their side抯 recent poor form.

The East Londoners have lost six and drawn one of their seven competitive matches since the Argentinian duo joined, though Benayoun insists suggestions that they have spoilt the balance of Alan Pardew's side are unfair.

"It is wrong to put the blame on them, he told BBC Radio Five Live. "We have got two very good players.

"I speak with them every day and they are like everybody. They want that first win and then we can start to look at the positives."

"Things are just not going right as a team, you cannot say individually anyone is not playing well because the team are not playing well.

"However, even though we lost yesterday at Portsmouth, we are improving and hopefully we will win the next game and go to a better way."

Pardew fearing the sack

West Ham manager Alan Pardew has admitted he fears for his future after seeing his side slip into the bottom three following a 2-0 away defeat at Portsmouth.

The Hammers have now failed to win any of their last seven competitive games, and crashed out in the first round of the UEFA Cup to Italian side Palermo.

"I think any manager who has lost six games has to have a certain amount of fear about his job. Otherwise he would be silly,

Kia closing in on takeover    Mon, Oct 16 2006 15:02

Iranian tycoon Kia Joorabchian looks set to seize control of West Ham by the end of the week in an £80million deal.

Joorabchian looks to have fought off late interest by Icelandic magnate Eggert Magnusson to enter the final rounds of negotiation with club officials. Hammers' managing director Paul Aldridge was absent from the weekend's defeat at Portsmouth as he pored over the finer details of the takeover which will also see Joorabchian finance £25million to pay off the club's debts.

Self-styled ?super agent' Pini Zahavi is understood to play a role in the consortium bidding for power at Upton Park, and his links with ex-England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is sure to see speculation mount over the future of current manager Alan Pardew.

Tevez off the mark
Filed: Tuesday, 7th November 2006
Author: Matthew O'Greel

Carlos Tevez scored his first goals for West Ham this afternoon - but they weren't enough to prevent defeat against Southampton.

Tevez hit both of West Ham's goals in a 3-2 defeat at Upton Park, as the Hammers put out what must rank as one of their strongest reserve line-ups ever in a specially arranged behind-closed-doors friendly.

Alongside him in the Hammers starting XI were fellow Argentinian international Javi Mascherano plus recent signing Carlton Cole and Christian Dailly.

West Ham fell behind early on before Tevez notched his first goal for the Hammers from the penalty spot after being hauled down by Michael Svensson. The 22-year-old striker's second arrived as a late consolation with West Ham already 3-1 down.

Both Tevez and Mascherano are expected to be named in the preliminary squad to travel to Middlesbrough this weekend.

West Ham United: Details to follow.

Southampton: Bialkowski, Ostlund, Svensson, Powell (Thomson 60), Mills, Lallana, Sarmiento, Pele, Surman (Dutton-Black 60), McGoldrick, Best (Condesso 45).

Dowie leaves Charlton

Charlton manager Iain Dowie has left the club, it was announced on Monday night. The former Crystal Palace and Oldham boss only took over at the end of May but had come under pressure after a poor start to the season left them rooted to the bottom of the Premiership.

Charlton have only taken eight points from their opening 12 games, although the club was in transition following previous manager Alan Curbishley's departure from The Valley after 15 years in joint and sole charge.

Dowie, 41, carved out a playing career with Hendon, Luton, West Ham, QPR, Southampton and Crystal Palace before managing Oldham and taking 'Palace to the Premiership in 2005.

It is not yet known who made the decision, with Charlton expected to announce the full details in a statement on Tuesday.
