Chelsea Still Monitor Van Der Vaart

With the transfer window set to re-open in less than five months, it seems that Chelsea have not forgotten about Rafael van der Vaart, who impressed their scout in Germany and Austria with his performance in Leverkusen, last Saturday.

The Dutch master, who celebrates his 25th birthday today, earned Hamburg the lead at the 揃ayArena

CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL - PLAYER RATINGS

CECH - 6. Never stretched and handled everything else as we have come to expect.

BELLETTI - 6. Up against it early on after a yellow for handball and with the speedy Babel looking like he would run at the Brazilian at every opportunity. Fortunately, Babel quickly lost his appetite and Belletti nullified his threat. However, it meant he wasn抰 able to get forward like he usually does.

ALEX - 7. Struggled with Crouch in the air, but did enough to ensure the Liverpool man couldn抰 cause damage.

CARVALHO - 7.5. Swept up everything around him and was steadier in his distribution than most of his teammates.

A. COLE - 7. It抯 fashionable to knock him these days, but was our most dangerous provider in the first half and put in a good performance.

MAKELELE - 5. It抯 near heresy not to laud his every game and he has seemed in recent games to have discovered a creative role hitherto unseen. Well, Liverpool seemed happy to let him have the ball rather than Ballack and Lampard and it paid off for them handsomely. In the first half his pass success rate must have been about 30% and that抯 not counting the number of times he was caught in possession.

LAMPARD - 5. A poor return for the dynamo of our team who needs to find his feet quickly if he is to justify his place in the team. I can抰 remember a single good pass from the man we have relied upon so much in previous seasons.

BALLACK - 7. Not the German抯 greatest game, but anything we created usually went through him. Pushed up when Lampard was taken off and so nearly won it near the end when our best move of the match ended with him cushioning an awkward ball just by the far post.

WRIGHT-PHILLIPS - 5. Could have been a mismatch up against Riise, but Liverpool抯 swarming defence mostly kept SWP, back again on the right wing, a peripheral figure.

J. COLE - 5.5. Rarely had the space or time to produce anything special. The one occasion he got room

Nak sambung lagik... sumber telegraph... tak kuaser haku nak wat analisis sendirik

Arsenal:

Feb 23 Birmingham A
With four wins in their last five trips, Arsenal should leave victorious. 3 pts
March 1 Aston Villa H
Villa stole a point last season and with six away draws already, a stalemate is possible. 1 pts

March 9 Wigan A
Arsenal have won all five against Wigan but it could be cancelled if Arsenal are in the FA Cup.3 pts

March 15 Middlesbrough H
Arsenal lost 2-1 at the Riverside in December, so revenge is in the air and obtainable. 3pts

March 23 Chelsea A
Arsenal were the last team to win at Stamford Bridge four years ago, but a draw looks likely. 1pts

March 29 Bolton A
A trip Arsenal hate after losing on their last three visits. A must-win, but not easy. 3pts

April 5 Liverpool H
Arsenal have won their last four home games against Liverpool and Fabregas stole a point in October. 3pts

April 12 Manchester U A
United were robbed of a point in November so Arsenal will not be confident. 3pts

April 19 Reading H
In eight meetings in all competitions, Arsenal have won each of them. Here's to number nine. 3pts

April 26 Derby A
If Arsenal cannot win at Pride Park they don't deserve to be champions. 3pts

May 3 Everton H
After a 4-1 win at Goodison in December, Arsenal will expect three more points. 3pts

May 11 Sunderland A
Arsenal have scored three goals or more in their last six meetings. Why change the habit? 3 pts

Overall pts: 32

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Man. Utd:

Feb 23 Newcastle A
Keegan would just love it if Newcastle won - it won't happen. 3pts
March 1 Fulham A
Scene of a crucial win for United in last season's title race. Fulham are worse now, so three more points. 3pts

March 9 Bolton H
United lost at Bolton in November but they have conceded 14 goals in four Old Trafford visits. 3pts

March 15 Derby A
Three given points, especially after a 4-1 home win. 3pts

March 23 Liverpool H
United have beaten Liverpool in their last four meetings; tensions will run high but a home win. haku rasa draw.. 1pt

March 30 Aston Villa H
United have beaten Villa twice already, in the League and the FA Cup. Win number three. 3pts

April 5 Middlesbrough A
Remember Boro's 4-1 home win two seasons ago? Surely not this time. 3pts

April 12 Arsenal H
With 12 home wins United will be favourites, but Arsenal won 1-0 last season. 0pt

April 19 Blackburn A
Not United's happiest hunting ground, though Blackburn are not their strongest at home this term. 1pt

April 26 Chelsea A
Chelsea beat United 3-0 to win the title in 2006. Could history be repeated? 1pt

May 3 West Ham H
The Hammers beat United 2-1 in December and 1-0 at Old Trafford last May. Problematic. 1pt

Malouda: Chelsea Can Still Be Champions

They may have dropped points on two consecutive weekends, but Florent Malouda remains confident that Chelsea can lift the league title in May.

Events at the Emirates on Monday night mean Chelsea are now eight points behind Arsenal in the race to become English champions.

The Blues have been held to two successive draws, first at Portsmouth and most recently 0-0 at home to Liverpool, thereby increasing their deficit.

Frenchman Florent Malouda, in his first season at the club, remains hopeful that Chelsea will lift the championship at the end of the season, especially now their top players are returning.

"We have to remain focused on the league," said Malouda, who doesn't believe the Blues can focus solely on Cup competitions despite still being in three of them.

"You can't choose which competition to win.  We are a good team and we set a target to win every game.  All the top clubs look for that.  You are happy to win and very angry when you drop points.  That is your motivation."
