Reported Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi seems ever more likely to beheading out of Napoli after writing a letter to fans in which he claimsto have been treated with "a lack of respect" by the club.
The striker, who is under contract at the Serie A side until 2012,insisted yesterday he wants to remain at Napoli despite reportedinterest from the Reds. However, the 24-year-old looks to have changedhis mind amid reports of a falling out with sporting director PierpaoloMarino.
"I'm writing this letter to the fans who have always been close to me,"Lavezzi's wrote. "It's a difficult time and I hope that soon thesituation will become clearer as much for you as for me.
"The only sure thing is that one day there won't be either Lavezzi orMarino but there will always be this great club and this immense citysimply because Napoli does not belong to anyone, it represents thesynthesis of the sentiment of their fans' dignity.
"Today I have to choose between dignity and a lack of respect, becauseof my loyalty to my upbringing without doubt I choose dignity."
Reports in Italy suggest Lavezzi's representatives met withManchester United chiefs in Madrid with a view to a move to OldTrafford, while Liverpool have been repeatedly linked with a deal.
The Argentina forward's agent claims he has an offer on the table from a big club but insists nothing has been decided yet.
"This is not a goodbye letter," Alejandro Mazzoni told Sky Italia. "Hewas thinking about leaving an explanation for the fans, who areimportant for him. He never said he wanted to leave Napoli.
"There is a very real offer from a team who are playing in theChampions League and where he would earn much more than here. Marinohad a strategy for arriving at the end of the season but he has notrespected anything of what he promised.
"The lad wants to stay at Napoli. But for him what's more important isdignity which is above contracts, national teams, money - aboveeverything. If it was for the city and fans he would stay, 100 percent, but if it was for the relationship between us and the directors,it would be close to zero." |

Hargreaves out until next year
Manchester United's preparations for next season have been dealt an early blow with Owen Hargreaves, the England midfield player, unlikely to be back in action until January. Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, had hoped to have Hargreaves playing by the start of the new season in August, but his recovery from two knee operations is taking longer than expected and neither the club nor the player is prepared to rush his return for fear of a setback. The next couple of months are likely to provide more definitive answers, with Hargreaves hopeful of being able to join his team-mates for light training once or twice a week from next month or August before stepping up his rehabilitation programme to include more rigorous training after that. It is doubtful, though, that he will return to action before the new year.
