Morning Musume transforms into Muten Musume for sushi tie-in
Sun, August 29, 2010 (2:16am EDT)
A new song by idol group Morning Musume has been revealed as a promotional tie-in with the Kansai-based kaiten sushi chain Muten Kura-Zushi. The tune, called "Appare Kaiten Zushi!," has been playing in the chain's stores since August 13, and many customers have been curiously asking about it.
The sushi-themed song is actually sung by the group "Muten Musume," which is now officially confirmed to be all eight current members of Morning Musume. A CD release has been scheduled for October 27.
The project started at the beginning of this year, when Muten Kura-Zushi requested a song from producer Tsunku (41). Tsunku agreed, and he chose Morning Musume to perform it. Each of the members was also turned into an illustrated character (see image gallery), and animated versions will appear on the Muten Kura-Zushi website, as well as in karaoke clips.

Former Morning Musume members become Afternoon Musume for coffee CMs
Mon, September 6, 2010 (10:57am EDT)
Seven of Morning Musume's OG members have been appointed as the new image characters for Coca-Cola's coffee product "Georgia Go-Houbi Break." Together, they will be known as the unit "Afternoon Musume," though their activities will be limited to the new series of commercials.
Afternoon Musume consists of Yuko Nakazawa, Kaori Iida, Natsumi Abe, Kei Yasuda, Makoto Ogawa, Mari Yaguchi, and Miki Fujimoto. The seven of them will play attendants in the commercials, which will tell a story set in the samurai quarters.
The first commercial will feature only five of the members (without Yaguchi and Fujimoto), though actor Keisuke Koide will also make an appearance. The commercial's song will include lyrics such as "afternoon coffee nomou yo, gogo ni," reminiscent of Morning Musume's debut single "Morning Coffee" (which had the line "morning coffee nomou yo, futari de"). Broadcast of the commercial is set to begin on September 8.
Yaguchi and Fujimoto are set to appear in the second commercial of the series, but no starting date has been announced for it yet.

"Keitai Deka" heroines save Morning Musume
Wed, October 13, 2010 (8:11pm EDT)
The BS-TBS drama franchise "Keitai Deka" is getting its third movie next year, starring the three most recent "Keitai Deka" heroines. As the title suggests ("Keitai Deka The Movie 3: Morning Musume Kyuushutsu Daisakusen! ~ Pandora no Hako no Himitsu"), the film will also feature idol group Morning Musume, acting together for the last time before Eri Kamei, Junjun, and Linlin leave the group.
The "Keitai Deka" franchise has sold more than 1.2 billion yen in DVDs. In addition to the dramas, two movies were released in 2006 and 2007.
The new film will star Aya Omasa (19) from "Keitai Deka Zenigata Kai," Azusa Okamoto (18) from "Keitai Deka Zenigata Mei," and Anri Okamoto (16) from the upcoming "Keitai Deka Zenigata Yui" (starts December 4). The three will team up to solve a case in which the members of Morning Musume suddenly disappear while they are on a bus. Shigeru Matsuzaki (60) and Tomiyuki Kunihiro (57) will reprise their roles from the second movie.
The movie is being directed by Hiroshi Ando, who has worked on several of the "Keitai Deka" dramas. Theatrical release is scheduled for February 5, 2011.

Morning Musume new members (9th Gen)
After a lengthy audition and weeks of build-up via the weekly H!P television show Bijo Gaku, the 9th generation was revealed today at the Hello Project 2011 Winter concert in Tokyo. But prior to revealing those members, former H!P Egg Kikkawa Yuu made her solo debut, singing "Sayonara Namida". You can visit her official website here.
Later in the concert, producer Tsunku appeared and revealed the names of the three auditioners that would be moving forward into Morning Musume: Sayashi Riho, Suzuki Kanon, and Ikuta Erina. After Tsunku revealed the names of those three, he surprised the crowd by adding a fourth member, Hello!Pro Egg Fukumura Mizuki. These four girls join Takahashi Ai, Niigaki Risa, Michishige Sayumi, Tanaka Reina and Mitsui Aika, bringing Morning Musume up to a total of nine members.
