FTIsland released their 3rd album 2 years after debut. Saying goodbye tosorrowful tracks from their 2nd album, FT Island comes back on stagewith bright and cheerful songs.
Idol band, FT Island, brings us smiles ever since their debut 2 years back.
FTIsland consists of the following members, Lee Hongki (vocal), ChoiJonghoon (guitar), Song Seunghyun (guitar), Lee Jaejin (bass) and ChoiMinhwan (drums). Since their debut in 2007, their songs like"Lovesick", "Thunder", "After Love", "Bad Woman" and other sorrowfulrock ballads have gained lots of popularity. Lee Hongki's melancholicsinging style has become the trademark of the band. The way heexpressed love and separation in the songs captured many women's heart.
The band's latest released album, titled "Cross & Change",has a special meaning. Unlike their previous albums which create a darkand heavy atmosphere, their new title song "Barae (I Hope)" portraysthe vibrant energy of young men in their early 20s. It is also acrossover between rock and electronica and it gives off a brighter andlighter touch to the songs. Members also look different on stage thistime. Hongki is now winking at the fans instead of showing his usualdepressive image on stage. And now we begin our interesting interviewwith the members.
#New Challenges & Readjustments
FTIsland experienced a slump in their career path ever since their debut.Oh Wonbin left the team due to musical differences and Song Seunghyunjoined in soon after. Many predictions and rumours were spreading onthe team's future. In order to clear up all these confusions, FT Islandreleased a mini album titled "Jump Up". However, the results from thismini album did not manage to reach the high expectations from the fansand the band was disheartened. They then sensed the urgency to come upwith their 3rd album.
"This new album serves as a new challengeas well as a readjustment for us. We wanted to do much better to makeup for what we lack from the previous album," said Lee Hongki. "We didnot want to show just one image like the previous albums. So we thoughtof preparing another new image this time," said Lee Jaejin.
Theband chose a brighter and positive image for their comeback. "It willbe different this time" as what the members promised. They have taken achange towards brighter and cheerful music style. Besides the titlesong "Barae (I Hope)", other songs like "Bing Bing Bing", "Angel &Woodman", "Marry Me", "Knowing From First Sight", "Monnani" areblending well with FT Island's bright image. The members are all hypedup in singing.
"Just as how I often smile on screen, I'm quite acheerful person off screen too," said Lee Hongki. "Many also advised usto portray an image that suits our age, to joke around with each othermore often and be cute," said Choi Jonghoon. "It doesn't seem to suitus very well but it's good to know
that we can have such image too," said Choi Minhwan.
#Continuing Progress!
FTIsland stands out amongst the many idol groups in the industry rightnow, being a unique band made up of a group of pretty boys who playrock music using their own instruments on stage. Back then when theband just debuted, the members were insufficient in their playingskills and received titles of being just a "flower band". The membersproved themselves by practising at least 10 hours a day without rest.The band recently received an invitation to a famous rock festival andit proves their ability.
"We are happy that we can do all kindsof music recently without any difficulty," said Lee Hongki. "There isno end for practising. We still have a long way to go but we're gainingconfidence bit by bit now," said Lee Jaejin.
The members portraya more matured image for this new album. They also tried out crossoversbetween music genres like rock-n-roll, reggae, electronica and manyothers. Their confidence level goes up as they widen their musicspectrum. They are also doing their Asia tour promotions in countrieslike Singapore, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and others.
"Evenat unfamiliar places, we are able to perform with confidence. We'reanticipating the tour promotions," said Song Seunghyun. "It seems thatwe haven't been resting ever since debut. There were times when we saidwe wanted to take a break but we did not eventually. We want to step onthe "acceleration pedal" this time," said Lee Hongki.

090720 Lee Hongki, “It’s A Pity To Leave Inkigayo As A Host”
FT Island officially started their 3rd album promotional activities on SBS Inkigayo on 19th July.
Thisepisode of Inkigayo had a special meaning to vocal, Lee Hongki, as itwas his last time hosting this programme and at the same time it wasalso FT Island’s first comeback performance for their 3rd album.
Onthis day right after the programme, FT Island had a fanmeeting withabout 1,000 fans near the broadcast station. Lee Hongki expressed hisgratitude to the many fans who were unable to attend the event as well.Fans also gave their well-wishes to Lee Hongki who ended his programmehosting and also wished for the success of their 3rd album.
LeeHongki expressed that, he met many nice people through the Inkigayoprogramme. He also thanked his two other emcee partners, Eun Jiwon andYoo Seola.
FT Island showcased two songs on the programme,“Barae (I Hope)” and “Marry Me“. Lee Hongki displayed his maturedvocals; Lee Jaejin showing off his cute hairstyle and together withSong Seunghyun, both performed a catchy rap on stage, winning thecheers of many fans. The members also enjoyed doing the “Left-Right”dance during the performance of “Barae (I Hope)”.
During thefanmeeting, the 5 members shared with fans some thoughts about their3rd album as well as presenting their own favourite songs. They alsohad small events with the fans, like taking selca (= self-camera)together, giving away presents, etc to thank the fans who came early inthe morning to support them.
