Actress Yuki Amami will take on her first doctor role when she stars in a TBS drama series next season. The show, which is currently untitled, will feature Amami as a 39-year-old, unmarried psychiatrist.

"Impossible love" for Sakai, Natsukawa in Fuji TV drama
Sun, February 3, 2008 (5:14pm EST)
Veteran entertainer Masaaki Sakai and actress Yui Natsukawa will co-star in a new Fuji TV drama series currently titled "Muri na Renai." This is Sakai's first starring drama role in 13 years.
The series uses an original screenplay by Yoshikazu Okada. Sakai plays the role of Shogo, a divorced man with one daughter. In his younger days, he was briefly in a band but it quickly broke up, and he took on a job at a record company. At the age of 60, he falls in love with the 35-year-old Kaede (Natsukawa), but her career and values are very different from his own. In addition, Kaede already has an "ikemen" boyfriend (currently being cast).
Sakai commented that the role is very similar to his own life. He has been divorced twice and has two daughters, and is said to be dating a former model 22 years younger than him.
Other cast members include Hiroshi Kamayatsu (also known as Monsieur Kamayatsu), Mari Natsuki, Toshinori Omi, Sayaka Aoki, Sawa Suzuki, and Kei Tanaka. The drama will fill the Tuesday 10:00pm time slot, starting in April.

aku lak kalau pelakon je cun tp jalan citer hampeh, jgn harap aku akan tgk lagi citer tu untuk kali kedua...nak tak nak kadang2 main skip n forward je jalan citer tetap memainkan peranan besar bagi aku untuk pilih citer apa nak ditgk...contohnya season ni aku suka sgt Daisuki, walapun aku takde la minat Karina or Yuta Hiraoka, ta[i memandangkan Karina bukan Karina dlm citer tu tp dah jadi watak dia yg mentally-challenged dlm tu, dan jugak jalan citer yg ummph, terus aku 'ter'hook tgk...masa tgk LIFE last season pun sama...bukannya knal pun heroin dia Kie Kitano tu, tp mmg dorama yg superb org kata...even aku yg tak pernah suka Saki Fukuda walaupun pernah tgk dia dalam Haikei, Chichiue-sama n drama K8 Jitensha Shounen Ki tu, buleh jadi suka sgt ngan dia gara2 watak jahat yg dibawaknya dlm LIFE...lagi satu Kittie pun mesti setuju dgn yg nih, citer Nanisama (citer lama), walaupun takde la minat pelakon2nya tp citernya mmg best n lawak, tu yg buleh nak ditgk lagi walaupun untuk 2 atau 3 kali... |

TBS also announces Tokyo bombing drama
Thu, February 7, 2008 (4:45am EST)
Last month, NTV announced a drama special set during the Tokyo bombings of World War II. Now, TBS has also revealed its own drama special dealing with the same period, though it will have a different focus.
Like the NTV production, this drama is tentatively titled "Tokyo Daikushu." Toru Nakamura plays the role of the late Koyo Ishikawa, a policeman assigned to photograph the destruction caused by the air raids. He was later ordered to turn over the film to the GHQ, but he steadfastly refused. Only 33 of his photos have survived to this day.
For this drama, approximately 80 survivors have been interviewed in attempt to realistically depict the circumstances of the bombings.
TBS plans to air the show on March 10, a week before NTV's two-night special.

NEW MIDNIGHT DORAMA
Yoko Maki to star in TV Tokyo drama series
Fri, February 8, 2008 (5:18pm EST)
Actress Yoko Maki has been given her first starring role in a drama series. The show, titled "Shukan Maki Yoko" ("Weekly Yoko Maki"), will air on TV Tokyo late on Wednesday nights (1:20am-1:50am). That slot is currently occupied by the "Mahou Sensei Negima!" live-action adaptation.
The drama is a collaboration with Shinchosha's "Gekkan Series," a popular set of monthly "mooks" (magazine-book hybrids) that each feature a different celebrity. Maki will be the 99th in the series (on sale February 13), and hers is photographed by Lily Franky.
For the television series, Maki will play a total of 12 different roles, such as a wife, a cabaret club hostess, and a high schooler. It has also been decided that Maki will perform the drama's opening theme song, marking her "debut" as a singer. The song will be included on the show's soundtrack.
Some big names are involved as staff. Lily Franky is writing the source material for the first episode, while Keishi Nagatsuka and Nobuhiro Yama#a will direct episodes 6 and 7, respectively.
"Shukan Maki Yoko" premieres on April 2.

NEW DAYTIME DORAMA
Fuji TV adapts "Hanagoromo Yumegoromo"
Sat, February 9, 2008 (3:16am EST)
Tokai TV is producing a live-action version of Mutsumi Tsukumo's manga "Hanagoromo Yumegoromo." The series will air on Fuji TV on weekdays at 1:30pm, starting on March 31.
The story revolves around identical twins Maho and Mio, who are leading peaceful lives in Tokyo at the age of 17. One day, Maho goes out as a substitute for Mio, but is attacked by a man. She ends up getting pregnant, and the abortion results in her losing her womb. Maho later moves to Kanagawa to study kaga-yuzen. She receives a marriage proposal from a man named Masashi, but refuses due to her infertility, leading Masashi to marry Mio instead.
The series will last 65 episodes. The first 25 will cover the girls' lives between the ages of 17 and 20, and they will be played by real-life twins Ai and Yui Ozaki. For the rest of the series, the parts will be played by sisters (non-twins) Makiko and Mayuko Yoshida. Other cast members include Hidekazu Mashima (as Masashi) and Midori Hagio.
