Juan Roman Riquelme: I Can Still Play In Any Side
Argentine star is considering offers from several clubs this summer.

Juan Roman Riquelme - Boca Juniors

Boca Juniors midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme is adamant that he is still capable of competing on football’s highest level and would thrive if he made a move to the Premier League.

The 31-year-old’s deal at Boca Juniors has expired and after nearing an agreement to join Brazilian club Flamengo, the former Argentina international now has piqued the interest of some clubs in Europe.

“I am a player who can play in any side,” Riquelme told The Mirror.

“I want to be happy and know where I am going to play. I feel I can play at the highest for many more years.

“I have had several offers from clubs in Argentina and there is an English club asking about me and my agent is dealing with it.”

Riquelme has plenty of Champions League experience during his career featuring in the competition with both Villarreal and Barcelona, but the Argentine would like to make the switch to the Premier League.

After having a falling out with current Argentina manager Diego Maradona, Riquelme was not considered for the football legend’s World Cup squad.

Reports suggest that Riquelme favors a move to West Ham after co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold impressed him with their future plans for the club.

Interim Argentina Coach Sergio Batista Set To Field New-Look Team For Ireland Friendly - Report

Batista calls up Fernando Gago and Ever Banega for the Seleccion's first game since the World Cup...
By Daniel Edwards
Aug 10, 2010 10:52:00 PM

Interim Argentina coach Sergio Batista has named his side as the Albiceleste prepare to take on Ireland and has included several of the players left on the sidelines by predecessor Diego Maradona.

TyC Sports reports that Batista will line up with a 4-1-4-1 formation, playing three orthodox central midfielders and pushing Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria to supporting roles on the right wing and left wing respectively. This means that Real Madrid front-man Gonzalo Higuain will play as a lone striker.

The change means a Seleccion recall for two of the players who Maradona controversially left at home for the World Cup in midfield, giving continuing captain Javier Mascherano support in the engine room. Valencia man Ever Banega and 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago will both get the opportunity to prove to the interim coach that they can perform at international level against the Irish tomorrow night.

Two definite omissions for the Albiceleste are forwards Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero, who both travelled to meet the squad in Dublin but will take no part in the game due to illness. Diego Milito and Ezequiel Lavezzi are the two attacking alternatives on the Argentina bench.

Argentina Team (4-1-4-1): Romero; Burdisso, Demichelis, Samuel, Heinze; Mascherano; Messi, Banega, Gago, Di Maria; Higuain
