here is a good article by martin amis ..a review of a book on al qaeda..
martin amis in my opinion is one of the best living english writers...his prose style is almost lyrical...but this article is an example of a good writing with a position that i totally DISAGREE with..
The real conspiracy behind 9/11
Martin Amis examines the horrific coincidences that enabled Osama bin Laden抯 progress from down-and-out cave dweller to the chief symbol of Islamist terrorism

hmmm ... tak silap mastika bulan ogos ade cerita sedikit sebanyak perkembangan kes hizairi ni ... briefly rasanya ... cos they did a profile of a UKM lecturer yg mysteriously hilang mcm hizairi ... lepas tu there was another man hilang jugak same case mcm derang ... forgot his name ... nnt aku carik balik majalah tu n tgk latest info on his case |

artikel pasal hizairi featured in mastika ogos 2006 ... he was mentioned cos his case was similar with Ghazali Jaafar (lecturer UKM) yg jadik tajuk utama dlm artikel tu ... similarities mentioned plak
1. both anak sulung
2. both worked as lecturers, described as tenang dan berhemah
3. the night before their disappearances they both contacted their close friends
4. hizairi's car was found kat saujana golf club kajang while lg sorg tu ilang terus dgn kete2 sekali
so dalam artikel ni tulis polis masih bingung dan belum negetahui punca kehilangan derang ... fail masih dibuka dan siasatan masih diteruskan .... so kes derang x diklasifikasikan as kes culik cos derang hilang secara mengejut ... so lastly artikel ni utarakan persoalan pasal spekulasi2 ape yg terjadi kat org2 yg hilang ni |

here is a true story stranger than fiction.
The story of Natascha Kampusch's escape from her eight-year imprisonment in an underground cell (she was abducted at 10 years old)....
i hope hizai ...
i have been following the case with much interest last 2 weeks.. amidst the news about artis kahwin duda, or artis jumpa bekas tunang, i find that it is alarming not many malaysians know about natascha kampusch escape. and her story made world headlines around the world!
here is her latest pic, revealed yesterday

here's another book that sound interesting...non fiction
MURDER IN AMSTERDAM
The Death of Theo van Gogh and the Limits of Tolerance.
By Ian Buruma.
278 pp. The Penguin Press
Ian Buruma wrote a book about two murders in "Murder in Amsterdam." The first took place on May 6, 2002, when an animal-rights advocate, for obscure reasons, gunned down Pim Fortuyn, a charismatic politician with a populist program combining law-and-order conservatism, opposition to immigration and gay liberation. About a year and a half later a young Dutch Muslim of Moroccan descent, incensed by a film critical of Islam, shot the filmmaker-provocateur Theo van Gogh dead in broad daylight. As a parting gesture, he pinned a manifesto to the twitching body with a knife. It was all, as the prime minister of the Netherlands put it, "un-Dutch."

...and here is a good article by writer Nick Hornby about what the british people have been reading during this past hot summer....everything!
from this article, i find it interesting what harold bloom has to say about harry potter
Harold Bloom famously declared he'd rather children read nothing at all than read Harry Potter
and learn a new word today

if i have to choose one book i want to read from the booker long list. this is it.
As we all know kiran desai won this year's booker prize but during the long list period kalooki night was rated higher at 10/1 odd to win compared with kiran desai's 20/1.
