Taipei, Nov. 28 (CNA) Taiwanese-American singer Leehom Wang tied the knot with girlfriend Lee Jinglei on Wednesday in the United States, his agent said Thursday, just one day after Wang disclosed their romance for the first time.

The couple registered their marriage on Nov. 27, the same day Wang's parents walked down the aisle years ago.

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter thanks all his fans and the media for their blessings, his agent said.

Wang announced his relationship with the 27-year-old Lee on his Facebook and Sina Weibo micro-blogging pages Tuesday, U.S. time -- a major step for the star who has for a long time been known for keeping his private life closely guarded from the press.

"I'm lucky to have met a girl to hold hands with and share my future," he wrote on his social networking sites that day.

"She's not in the entertainment business so you don't know her, but I also don't want to create the opportunity for rumors so ... her name is Lee Jinglei. She's 27 years old and a graduate student at Columbia," Wang wrote.

His announcement drew immediate wide interest from local media and also reviving talk of the singer's rumored past romances with Taiwanese pop diva A-mei and actress Shu Qi.

Many had also speculated on the notoriously low-key singer's sexual orientation, and the rumor mill had suggested involvement with Chinese classical pianist Li Yundi, who announced his own hitherto unknown girlfriend late Wednesday.

A four-time Golden Melody Award winner, Wang began his music career in Taiwan in 1995 after participating in a talent competition hosted by a record company.

He released his first album "Love Rival, Beethoven" that year and his second album "If You Heard My Song" the following year.

He won Golden Melody Awards -- Taiwan's equivalent of the Grammys -- for best producer and best Mandarin male singer with his fifth album "Revolution."

Known for his music, Wang has also begun a successful acting career, starring in Ang Lee's 2007 Chinese espionage thriller "Lust, Caution."

In 2010, he worked both behind the camera and in front of it when he directed and starred in the Chinese-language feature film "Love in Disguise."
