This gigantic sequoia tree is so special that it has a nickname, and a bold one at that.
It’s called “The President.” Probably because it stands at 247 feet tall, measures at 45,000 cubic feet in volume, and is an estimated 3,200 years old – impressive stats!
The trunk is 27 feet wide and the branches hold 2 billion needles – more than any other tree on the planet.
The tree grows at such a rapid rate that it adds roughly one cubic meter of wood per year, making it the fastest growing tree in the world.
“The President” is located in the Sierra Nevadas of California.
The portrait of the giant tree, taken by National Geographic, is actually a mosaic, made up of 126 photographs in order to capture the stunning full-length shot.
It’s crazy to think that this tree has been alive for almost half of recorded history. All those things that have been and gone during that time, but “The President” is still standing tall.
