As of January 2012, Rihanna had sold approximately 47.6 million digital singles in the United States which makes her the biggest selling digital artist of all time. By September 2011 she had shipped 7.3 million album units in the US.Billboard named Rihanna the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade, and ranked her as the 17th Artist of the 2000s decade.

As badass as we all think Rihanna might be with her racy videos and four-letter-word-filled Twitter, she's actually a softy at heart. The "We Found Love" singer found some love with fans as she left the Armani Hotel in Milan, Italy, yesterday while she paid her pop star due dilligence and signed some autographs for fans. You can't fool us, Ri. We've seen your vacation photos; we know you're just like the girl next door... with really expensive clothes and Jay-Z's cell phone number.
But Rihanna owes a lot to her fans. "We Found Love" was the most listened to song on Facebook in 2011, which is impressive considering it was just released in September. That means that people everywhere were listening to it over and over and over and over again, which makes me feel much more sane. I seriously started to wonder if I had some kind of mental problem because as soon as I thought I was going to switch to a different song, nope, I'd just hit play again. Rihanna's "We Found Love" is like a sleeve of Oreos -- before you know it, the whole thing's gone and you're crying on the floor of your bedroom. Wait, what?

Rihanna had a successful run in 2011. How successful? Well, the Barbadian songbird sold over 47 million downloads last year of all her hit songs. This astounding feat makes her the biggest-selling digital artist of all time, according to Nielsen Soundscan as reported by RihannaDaily.
The ‘Talk That Talk’ singer beat out some notable artists to reach the No. 1 plateau. Pop-rap group Black Eyed Peas finished at No. 2 with 42.4 million downloads, followed closely by Eminem in third place with 42.2 million downloads. Pop starlets Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift round out the top five with 42 million and 41 million downloads, respectively.
However, BEP can pat themselves on the back for having the biggest-selling digital single of all time — ‘I Gotta Feeling,’ which has sold 7.68 million copies. Gaga’s 2008 hit ‘Poker Face’ is at No. 2 with 6.5 million tunes downloaded. Oddly, none of Rihanna’s songs are even in the Top 10 on that list.
Meanwhile, RiRi’s ‘We Found Love’ (Featuring Calvin Harris) is holding steady at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart after spending eight weeks at the top. The song is selling briskly as it jumped from No. 3 to No. 2 this week on the Digital Song tally. So far, Rihanna has moved 319,000 downloads of ‘We Found Love.”

RiRi also closed out 2011 with the longest-running No. 1 hit of the year with “We Found Love”, while her new album Talk That Talk has just crossed 1.8 million in sales, passing the 1.5 million Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale shifted, and fast approaching the two million copies that Beyonce’s 4 sold.
