Elavarasan bangga

Cardiff stint for 50 young Felda footballers
By MARTIN CARVALHO
[email protected]
SUNGAI BULOH: Some 50 of the best young footballers from the Felda schemes will have the chance-of-a-lifetime to train at the Cardiff Football Academy.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the stint in Britain was part of efforts to develop the sport as an industry and a nation-building tool.
“ I make this commitment as minister in charge of Felda that I would like to send the best of our Felda kids for a month's training at the academy, ” he said when launching the 1Malaysia Cardiff City League here yesterday.
“ It will be a thrill of a lifetime for them and a chance for them to experience life in Cardiff while developing their football skills, ” he added.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Felda-sponsored stint would one day see the youngsters become iconic national football players.
Earlier in his speech, Najib noted that football was a sport that shared similar virtues expounded in the 1Malaysia spirit.
“ It is able to galvanise the rakyat to work together collectively for the common good of all, ” he said.
“ I believe that the future of Malaysia is all about us and having a sense of belonging where we work, stay and even play together and nothing can be better than to achieve these than through sports, ” he said.
“ If we play as Team Malaysia, all 28 million Malaysians can play' in the spirit of 1Malaysia, ” he said.
However, he noted that the future of the sport depended on well-coordinated and systematic development of the youth.
“ Football is enjoyed with such passion by Malaysians that even at teh tarik stalls, they talk of nothing else but football,” he said, adding that as a Manchester United fan he too would get into a banter with his daughter who supports Liverpool.
Najib said the sport could also be developed into an industry with economic spin-offs.
“ Sports is not about sports alone,” he said. “The industry is linked to national development. ”
Later at a press conference, 1MCC chairman Datuk Chan Tien Gheedescribed Najib's initiative as a new development for the sport.
“ It is something which would never have been possible in previous years, ” he said.

Felda tidak gentar hadapi Red Warriors
NOOR HAFIZA CHE ABDULLAH
19 September 2012

Felda United ambil langkah drastik gugur 23 pemain, pegawai
Oleh MUHAMMAD DAYNE AZMIN
[email protected]

FOOTBALL : Portugal beckons Fakri
06 November 2012 | last updated at 10:57PM
AHMAD Fakri Saarani could become only the second Malaysian player after Nazmi Faiz Mansor to play in the Portuguese league.
Fakri, 23, has been invited for a three-day trial with Atletico Sport Clube Reguengos, a Terceira Division (third-tier competition) Serie F side.
Established in 1929, the club are currently fourth in the 12-team league with 12 points from seven matches.
Argentine Ernesto Sebastian Sanchez and Tanzanian Abuu Ubwa Zuberi are among the club's seven foreign signings.
The trial is only expected to be a formality with Fakri, a striker who has not renewed his contract with Felda United, excited about the prospect of playing in Portugal.
Fakri, a national trainee, will attend the trial after the AFF Cup which ends on Dec 22.
If he impresses, the club could sign him during the January transfer window for a period of between six months and three years.
Football agent Marco Guimaraes said the club invited Ahmad for a trial after watching video footages of him.
" Fakri is a quality striker, who also plays well as a winger but injury affected his confidence in the M-League. He has, however, regained his form, " said Guimaraes yesterday.
" He is intelligent, fast, has quick feet and works very hard. At 23, he's at a good age and already a regular with the national team. It's obvious he's a very good player.
" I believe he can follow in Nazmi's footsteps, who has improved tremendously with Premier League side Biera-Mar, by playing in Europe. I believe he can make a big impact in Portugal. "
Fakri, who began his professional career with Perak five seasons ago, was a member of the national Sea Games winning squads of 2009 and 2011.
The Kota Baru-born also played in the 2010 Asian Games but missed the AFF Cup due to injury.
" Atletico want to see more of him as there were not many video footages of him. I have a good relationship with the club.
" If everything goes well, he may sign for six months as the club may want to see how he adapts before offering a longer deal," said Guimaraes.
Guimaraes, who is Nazmi's agent, thanked the FA of Malaysia (FAM) for being supportive in getting locals to attend trials in Europe.
" FAM general secretary Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad was accommodating and supportive when we informed him about our interest to get Ahmad to Portugal for a trial.
" The national body wants more locals to ply their trade overseas, " Guimaraes added.

Malaysia’s moneybags get first win over nine-man Perak

PETALING JAYA : Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) finally got the win they’ve been craving for – with the help of two red cards to Perak.
The star-studded cast of JDT had been expected to steamroll past their opponents with their big-name signings this season.
But JDT have failed to catch fire so far, losing 3-2 to Pahang in their opening Super League match on Tuesday and struggling to beat nine-man Perak 1-0 at the Larkin Stadium last night.
National centreback Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak scored the winner for JDT in the 49th minute after Perak were reduced to nine men following the sending-off of defenders Khairi Kiman and Mohd Hisyamudin Sha’ari in the 38th and 44th minutes respectively.
In Kelana Jaya, surprise package Pahang picked up their second consecutive win when they edged Felda United 1-0 at the MBPJ Stadium, with second-half substitute Mohamed Borji taking credit for the deflected goal in the last minute of the game.
The Moroccan actually tried to shield Azamuddin Akil’s pass in the six-yard box but the ball surprisingly rolled past Felda United goalkeeper Mohd Helmi Eliza.
Felda had only themselves to blame for not taking the lead in the first-half after Azi Shahril Azmi and former Kelantan striker Mohd Ghaddar Mahmoud muffed sitters in the 20th and 32nd minutes respectively.
Pahang’s Mohd Fauzi Roslan, the two-goal hero against JDT on Tuesday, had the best chance of the half but his glancing header was well saved by Helmi in the 40th minute.
