Question : Is it compulsory for a muslim woman to cover her face?

We see a lot of Arab tourists in Malaysia and most of the women are covered.

Why arent malaysian women covered the same way?

the thing is Muslim, Christian, and Judaism are all under one same God, but each has different beliefs about Jesus, prays, etc...that's why all three have similarity..example: Nun and Islam women wear tudung, Judaism and Islam men wear kopiah...

So why are Muslim women covering faces even where there are no sandstorms and they get beaten for not wearing it? why not the men wear tudung and cover faces too since you say the reason is sandstorm?

Nightlord questions whether it is compulsory to cover muslim women's face. It seems that it is not compulsory to do so from Neostream's post.

Since it is due to sandstorm, which I may agree, how do some countries like Afghanistan & Nigeria make it a religious attire? If it is not compulsory, then they are wrong to force people to cover their face. Hope I don't see Casper & friends here in Malaysia.

It was compulsory during the Taliban time only.  This had been explain by the Taliban themselves, but was never publicised widely.  You can found these statements made by the Taliban in CARI forum long time ago.  In short, they made it compulsory to the women because of the situation in Afghanistan since Russian occupation wasn't stable.  The Taliban had to fight warlords and druglords, and lots of the war/druglords had been executed.  One other law compulsory for women is not to got out of the house without mahram, that made impossible for the women to work and get education.  The reason is also the same, which is instability.  Now the Taliban is gone, we can see that the warlords and the druglords had came back to power, such as Ismail Khan.  Thanks to the USA who had to give them favors for helping the USA toppling the Taliban.

Those Talibans are extremist...true government is the one that described in the Quran..

Face covering your say... it reminds me of a time when me & my wife having lunch at KLCC food court. There was this Arabian couple who sat not far from us. He(Arab dude) in bermuda shorts & short sleeve shirt, she in her total black outfit covered from head to toe. It was quite entertaining to watch the poor lady eat her food, for every bite she have to raise the long veil that covers her face then she will cover her face back. It was so hilarious and yet ridiculous and so pitiful.

Question : I would like to know those verses in quran which talk about the covering of face by women as i need to show it few persons who want to know whether covering of face by women is compulsory or optional.

You should note that women抯 observing hijab in front of non-mahram men and covering their faces is something that is obligatory as is indicated by the Book of your Lord and the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and by rational examination and analogy.
