Hadi: Pakatan Harapan an ‘express bus with no destination’

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas is open to working with Barisan Nasional (BN) on people’s issues, provided they do not go against Islamic teachings. Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party was ready to meet government representatives, ministry officials and even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to discuss these issues.
He said the stand of Pas and Umno representatives were similar, and they were not merely parliamentarians. "Our foundation is based on people-oriented programmes. There are so many issues that cannot be discussed in parliament alone due to time constraints," Hadi said.
Meanwhile, Pas was adopting a high ground approach with regards to the recent stunt pulled by several Opposition MPs during the tabling of the 2016 Budget on Friday. At the conclusion of the Budget tabling last week, Opposition MPs had stood up in Parliament holding placards bearing the words "Where is the RM2.6 billion".
Hadi, commenting on the issue, said Pas was not made up of demonstrating MPs. While maintaining that Pas was still an Opposition party, he said there was little hope for the new opposition alliance Pakatan Harapan. "We are not going to board an express bus which has no destination," said Hadi.
Asked if this meant that Pas would not join Pakatan Harapan, he said there was no hope for the new opposition alliance. "We will continue to work with any party including DAP and PKR on aspects the party deems good and are in line with Islam," he said.
