Pestu nama panda kena berulang mcm parents dia (Liang Liang & Xing Xing) dan panda2 lain.

Awatlah sibuk orang M'sia nak kecoh memberi nama anak panda.  Bukan anak kita pun.  Esok2, mak pak dia balek ke China, anak tu diangkot sama. Kalau anak panda tu ada surat beranak pun takat ditulis lahir di KL tapi wn tetakmilik China.

China embassy official: Meaningful event for M’sia

PETALING JAYA: “This is fantastic news!”

Chinese Embassy consular affairs counsellor Gong Chunsen was ecstatic when informed about the birth of a panda cub in Malaysia.
“As you know, pandas giving birth (in captivity) is not easy. With this, Malaysia now has a new permanent resident,” he enthused, calling the birth a “very meaningful event indeed for Malaysia”.
Gong hoped that the addition would attract more Malaysians to visit the pandas at Zoo Negara.

“Not only that, I urge my fellow countrymen to come to Malaysia and see the panda cub as well,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s special envoy to China Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting said the baby panda’s arrival was a historic event for the country.
“It symbolises the special relationship between Malaysia and China that has come a long way,” he added.
Malaysia and China celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between both countries last year.

ni berita lain mengatakan yang baby tiga tahun, parent kena balik..so xtahu la..

Cub’s arrival creates excitement at Zoo Negara and around the globe

KUALA LUMPUR: It may only be about the size of a palm, but it is fiercely protected by its mother, watched like a hawk by zoo authorities and is creating excitement around the world.

The unnamed newborn baby giant panda of Xing Xing and Liang Liang has not even opened its eyes but can be heard crying loudly, much to the delight of Zoo Negara staff.

Malaysian Zoological Society Giant Panda Conservation Centre and veterinary services director Dr Mat Naim Ramli said that it was a very thrilling time for the zoo.

“We can see the legs and some parts of the body but the mother, Liang Liang, is very protective and is keeping her baby well hidden,” he said.

When born, giant panda cubs are pink, blind and almost hairless. They typically begin to open their eyes around 40 days after birth and start developing the signature black and white pattern in a month.

Dr Mat Naim said it was also too early to determine the gender of the baby, adding that officials would be observing the family closely.

“We can hear it crying. It’s a loud sound and that’s great.” When asked about previous concerns that the two adult pandas were not “hitting it off”, Dr Mat said that this was what the authorities observed.

“We tried to create the best conditions for them to mate but there was not a lot of activity between the male and female,” he said, adding that they obviously overcame their intimacy issues.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak first shared the good news on his social media pages that Liang Liang had given birth.

Gembira mendapat berita bahawa Liang Liang, panda di Zoo Negara, telah selamat melahirkan seekor anak pada 1.45 tengah hari tadi (Happy to know that Liang Liang, one of the pandas in Zoo Negara, safely gave birth to a baby panda at 1.45pm today),” he wrote.

On his Chinese Facebook page, Najib promised that the zookeepers would take good care of the cub.

“We will ensure the family of three is happy and remains in our country in good health,” he added.

Xing Xing and Liang Liang, from Chengdu, China, were loaned via the Giant Panda International Conservation Cooperation Agreement Programme and arrived in Malaysia on May 21 last year.

The agreement signed in 2012 gives Malaysia an opportunity to conduct panda-related conservation research, besides developing local expertise on pandas over a 10-year period.

It was reported that Malaysia would get to keep the cub of the two giant pandas if they successfully mated in Zoo Negara.

Once the baby reaches three years of age, its parents would be sent back to China

ramai yg excited sebab xjangka kan panda ni beranak.. US punya la gigih kan kitty..estimate dia punya panda pregnant..alih2, rezeki malaysia nak dapat baby panda..
unexpected birth betul..deyol bahagia kot duduk malaysia..berat pun terlebih..macam rakyat malaysia juga..

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — The giant pandas from China started piling on the pounds in the first few months of their stay in Malaysia.

They have been on a diet since November.

Zoo Negara deputy director (hospital and veterinarian services) Dr Mat Naim Ramli said the cuddly pair, Xing Xing and Liang Liang, exceeded their ideal weight after six months. He said Xing Xing, the male panda, weighed 118kg in July and is now 138kg. Liang Liang’s weight spiked from 98kg to 116kg.

“It (the weight gain) is nothing unusual and their weight is now normal. There is nothing to be alarmed about,” he said.

He also said the ideal weight for the male and female pandas was below 135kg and below 115kg respectively.

“The pandas were then put on a ‘diet’ where their food intake was controlled to bring their weight down to an optimum level.

“Xing Xing and Liang Liang currently weigh 132kg and 110kg respectively.”

Dr Mat Naim said the pandas are fed panda cakes, apples and bamboos daily.

“About 1.5kg to 1.8kg of panda cakes, 300gm of carrots and apples as well as 30kg to 40kg of bamboos are fed to them daily. (mahu xgemok deyol.. bahagianya...)

“The bamboo, buluh betong, is one of their favourites and contributed to their weight gain.” The pandas, formerly known as Feng Yi (female) and Fu Wa (male) arrived in May and have been staying at Zoo Negara.

On June 15, 2012, the Malaysian and Chinese governments clinched a deal for the pandas to be loaned to Malaysia for 10 years to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries this year.

When Malay Mail visited the pair on Thursday, they were seen eating bamboo and occasionally playing in their enclosure. They were also oblivious to the visitors who were busy taking photographs. Dr Mat Naim said buluh betong was grown in Negri Sembilan and the panda cakes were made of soybeans, eggs, flour, rice and corn.

“Six Malaysian zoo staff were sent to China to learn how to make the panda cakes,” he said. Dr Mat Naim said they were also monitoring Liang Liang’s fertility on a daily basis.

“Her faecal and hormone levels are maintained to make sure she is prepared to mate between March and May this year.

“It will be the first time mating for Xing Xing and it may be unsuccessful so we are considering artificial insemination next year if it is unsuccessful.”

: Female pandas ovulate once a year, giving a window of just 36 hours in which they can get pregnant. Normal breeding season for pandas is mid-April to May.

Giant Panda Liang Liang Gives Birth At Zoo Negara

By Soon Li Wei

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The female giant panda, Liang Liang, has given birth to a cub at 1.45 pm in the Giant Panda Conservation Centre (GPCC) at Zoo Negara here Tuesday.

Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly@Rahmat Ahmat Lana said the veterinary experts and staff at the GPCC had been able to detect extraordinary behaviour of Liang Liang over the past two weeks.

"Liang Liang began to show extraordinary behaviour, such as losing appetite, being less active and making peculiar sounds, two weeks ago.

"Since then, our veterinary experts had begun carrying out blood test and measuring its weight, before they finally decided that there was an 80 per cent probability that Liang Liang was pregnant," he told Bernama here today.

Rosly said it was the staff at the GPCC who saw that Liang Liang was showing labour symptoms when they took it out to the exhibition area at 10 am.

"Based on the experts' observations at the exhibition area, Liang Liang appeared to have uncontrolled anxiety until about 1 pm when it started to go inside a hidden corner and gave birth to a cub.

"They (the experts) knew that a baby panda was born as they could see a small leg," said Rosly.

The birth of the panda cub also captured the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who expressed his happiness on his Twitter account.

Rosly said they had yet to ascertain the gender of the cub as Liang Liang had kept it in a hidden corner at the GPCC's exhibition area.

"Liang Liang also seemed to be quite aggressive and unapproachable after giving birth," he said.

Rosly also said that Liang Liang would be quarantined temporarily to undergo the confinement period while nursing the baby until the experts confirmed that it was ready to receive visitors.

As such, he said visitors would only be able to see the male giant panda, Xing Xing, when visiting the GPCC for the time being.

Based on the Malaysia-China Giant Panda International Conservation Agreement, Rosly said the panda cub could only stay in Malaysia for two years and must be sent back to Chengdu, China, the hometown of Xing Xing and Liang Liang.

"It will belong to China after that," he said.

Meanwhile, GPCC Zoology and Veterinary director Dr Mat Naim Ramli said panda's gestational period normally lasts three months.

He said the giant panda pair had earlier undergone a 10-day mating process from April 28 to May 7.

"At the initial stage, both the giant pandas appeared to have accepted one another, maybe for 20 minutes, because after that we have to conclude that the mating process had failed because Xing Xing was seen to be rejecting Liang Liang.

"However, from the health examination carried out on Liang Liang over the past two weeks, we found that there was an 80 per cent probability that the female giant panda was pregnant," he said.

The giant panda pair, formerly known in China as Fu Wa and Feng Yi, arrived in Malaysia on May 21, 2014, and will stay here on loan for 10 years, to symbolise the 40th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.

On June 25 last year, Najib announced the giant pandas' Malaysian name of Xing Xing (prosperity) and Liang Liang (pretty) in conjunction with the launch of the GPCC.
