To those critical of same-sex families on the grounds that it is bad for the child’s well-being, take note.
A study has found that children who have same-sex parents experience no negative social or behavioural impact as a result.
Jimi Adams from the University of Colorado Denver led a team that analysed thousands of peer-reviewed articles on same-sex couples and parenting in a bid to find if there was any substantial evidence suggesting that same-sex families were worse off than their heterosexual counterparts.

Data published in Social Science Research showed that there was ‘no difference’ in well-being between the children of heterosexual parents and same-sex parents.The findings could help to change some people’s attitudes towards gay adoption
The paper, co-authored by Ryan Light at the University of Oregon, looked at 19,000 research efforts between 1977 and 2013, as well as changing attitudes to same-sex parenting and homosexuality.

Light told Reuters that there was some disagreement in the 1980s about whether same-sex parenting negatively affected a child’s well-being, but by the turn of the century there was a clear consensus among scientists that there was no negative social, behavioural or educational impact that arose as a result of being raised by two people of the same sex.

The study is said to be the most comprehensive historical analysis of scientific attitudes towards the topic, ScienceAlert reports.
The findings could have an impact in legal scenarios, where certain parties cite narrow or dated studies as ‘scientific proof’ that same-sex parenting damages a child’s well
