The Meaning of Birdy's Not About Angels asks about 'angels' - those people who "make us special"... and whether they exist, or how to find them. With Fault in our Stars cancer, or any suffering really, those angels are essential. Half the lyrics are about finding something special or true ("There's just time." "Something real that's out of touch.") but knowing it's going to fade away. ("How unfair... could you give it up?... Would you dare to let it go?") The final answer of Not About Angels tells us to stop hoping for an invisible angel ("Not about those angels) and to hope in the human angels of those who love us.
