Plot;

20 years ago Moo-Yeom’s (Yoon Sang-Hyun) father was a suspect in the "Gap Dong” serial murder case. Because of the detectives’ oppressive investigation, Moo-Yeom’s father killed himself.

Now, Moo-Yeom is a detective and works to capture the killer Gap Dong. The statue of limitations has expired for the serial murder case and Moo-Yeom resigns to the belief that Gap Dong is dead. New clues though for Gap Dong appears in front of Moo-Yeom and he sets out to catch him once and for all.

Drama series is inspired by the "Hwaseong serial murder case" which occurred from 1986 to 1991 in the Taean Neighborhood of Hwaseong, South Korea. Ten women were raped and murdered during that time period. The real life case also inspired 2003 movie "Memories of Murder".

A detective in Iltan Police Department's violent crimes unit. He vows to avenge his wrongly accused father.

Kim Min-Jung ~ Maria Oh

A psychiatrist with a mysterious double life and a suspicious curiosity for all things Gap-dong.

Sung Dong-Il  ~ Yang Chul-Gon

The Iltan chief of police who was a police inspector at the time of the original murders. Still convinced that Moo-yeom's father was the killer, he is extremely prejudiced against Moo-yeom, which makes for a combative working relationship.

Lee Joo ~ Ryoo Tae-Oh

A barista with a genius IQ of 150. His excellent and detailed memory may prove valuable to cracking the case, but he also happens to have the disposition to be a dangerous psychopath.

Yoon Sang Hyun goes for a drastic change for new drama “Gap Dong”

A new drama is already set to take over “Emergency Couple” time slot when it ends. The new tvN drama “Gap Dong” starring Yoon Sang Hyun, Kim Min Jung, Sung Dong Il, Lee Joon and Kim Ji Won. The drama totally transformed Yoon Sang Hyun’s image and the reason to it was unveiled.

The plot of story involves Ha Moo Yeom’s (played by Yoon Sang Hyun) perspective when he eagerly becomes a detective to hunt for the killer Gap Dong. The “Gap Dong Serial Murder Case” was were his father was in charge 20 years ago. But since the investigation over this case had become so oppressive and complicated, his father ended up killing himself.


Yoon Sang Hyun revealed that he wanted to be an actor of substance who can both play soft and intense roles. He also stated that his role in “Gap Dong” will truly embrace him as an actor as the role requires more intensity and drama. “I HearYour Voice” director also added, “Yoon Sang Hyun played as a lawyer back in the drama ‘I Hear Your Voice’ and he truly showed excellency playing that role. Though that time, his role was more of a righteous, smart and geeky lawyer so it will be very different from this one in Gap Dong.”

His role in “I Hear Your Voice” and “Gap Dong” shows very diverse characters but it’s also not entirely different. In his previous drama “I Hear Your Voice”, he played as a lawyer and this time, he will play as a detective wherein both fields are dealing with law and criminals. Yoon Sang Hyun showed so much compassion when he filmed “I Hear Your Voice” and it goes the same until now for the drama “Gap Dong”. It will require more intensity though so he also put efforts and training for that drama.

“Gap Dong” is very much anticipated since Yoon Sang Hyun is usually known for his soft and comedic roles in dramas, but since it’s going to be a huge transformation for him this time, he’ll be more on the serious side. A son who seeks vengeance and justice for his father’s death. Truly, it will show more of his acting excellence.

“Gap Dong” will start airing on April 11 on tvN after the romantic comedy drama “Emergency Couple” ends.
