Berjaya akan bina saingan casino singapura di Johor

Berjaya Assets Bhd has big plans to transform its land in Johor Baru into a huge entertainment resort with a chain of high-end restaurants and clubs possibly spiced up with slot machines, a source said.
The project, which could be built on at least 18 acres or more near the Malaysia-Singapore causeway, is expected to steal some business from the two casinos in Singapore where costs are much higher.
With a large middle to high-income population expected to settled down in Iskandar Malaysia in the coming years, the project's proximity to the area may well attract a steady flow of foreigners and locals.
The project needs the approval of state and some federal government agencies, including the Ministry of Finance.
"The plan is not expected to face much resistance from the state authorities. The issue could be the federal government," an unidentified source said.
"Berjaya Assets may be looking to transform its Johor waterfront property into a huge entertainment resort," the source said.

PETALING JAYA: Fresh from selling six plots of land in Johor Baru for a whopping RM4.5bil, the Johor Sultan has entered into an agreement to buy a 20% stake in Berjaya Times Square Sdn Bhd (BTS), which among others, owns the Berjaya Times Square Mall in Jalan Imbi, for RM250mil cash. This is not the first investment the ruler of Johor has made in recent months, as he is seen to be picking up assets and emerging as shareholder in companies. Yesterday, Berjaya Assets Bhd told Bursa Malaysia that it had inked an agreement to dispose of 150 million shares of RM1 each, or a 20% equity stake, in BTS to Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

Sultan Johor isytihar cuti negeri pada Jumaat dan Sabtu
Sultan Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar (gambar) mengisytiharkan hari cuti negeri itu ialah pada Jumaat dan Sabtu dan tidak lagi Sabtu dan Ahad bermula 1 Januari 2014.
Pertukaran cuti itu dilihat akan memberi implikasi pembangunan pesat kepada Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar.
Pengumuman itu diisytiharkan bersempana sambutan ulang tahun Sultan Ibrahim ke-55.
Sebelum 1994, cuti di Johor ialah pada Jumaat dan Sabtu.
"Keputusan itu dibuat berikutan maklum balas daripada pelbagai pihak bagi membenarkan umat Islam melaksanakan solat Jumaat dengan lebih aman," titah Sultan Ibrahim.
