Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has shared an emotional recap of 2024, revealing the burnout and health challenges she faced over the year
In an Instagram post on Sunday, 29 December, the 45-year-old Segambut lawmaker revealed that her self-imposed work ethic, driven by a focus on efficiency and packed schedules, led to burnout as she aimed to ensure she did not "shortchange the rakyat".
"As a result, my health paid the price. During the cabinet retreat in January, I chatted with Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (Foreign Affairs Minister) about my bad headache.
"He advised me to rest. A doctor came to take my blood pressure and we were horrified. I started on blood pressure medication straight away," she wrote.
Throughout the year, she made regular visits to Putrajaya Hospital for sudden, severe eczema flare-ups. She also experienced debilitating neck pain and eventually started wearing a neck brace due to excessive phone usage.
At 45, Yeoh said she gave in to necessity and began wearing reading glasses.

In addition to her health challenges, Yeoh spent significant time in courtrooms testifying about her faith.
She also shared that her year was also marked by emotional strain during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, where she tirelessly supported Malaysia's elite athletes. She often ended her days in tears, sharing in their heartache.
In her post, Yeoh expressed gratitude to her team and advisors at the ministry, as well as the Segambut constituency, for their support on days when she lacked the physical strength to carry on and for consistently challenging her to improve.
One significant moment for Yeoh was narrowly avoiding losing her father, which she attributes to divine intervention.
She also expressed gratitude to her husband, Ramachandran Muniandy, who remained a source of happiness and support throughout their most challenging year, as well as to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for offering guidance whenever she needed a quick chat.
