[Borneo] ASEAN Snapshot Covid19 15/03/2022

Total Cases crossed 24.98 million at 7:00 pm with more than 231,000 New Cases reported since our last update as the Omicron variant continues to sweep across Southeast Asia.
Vietnam reported 161,262 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 166,968. Active Cases in the ASEAN member state have climbed to more than 3.06 million, up from 2.90 million previously. The health authorities reported 92 New Deaths in the past 24 hours, down from 95, resulting in Total Deaths in Vietnam climbing to 41,477.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 22,030 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 22,535 previously. Total Cases logged in the country now stand at more than 3.84 million with 3.50 million Total Recoveries to date. Malaysia recorded 92 New Deaths, up from 87 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 33,899.

Thailand logged 70 New Deaths from COVID-19 and 19,742 New Cases during the previous 24 hours. Of the New Cases, 19,636 were in the general population, 54 among prison inmates and 52 arrivals from abroad. The 70 New Deaths were between the ages of 33 and 98 years. The 24-hour period also saw 24,125 Recoveries discharged from hospitals.

Indonesia reported 14,408 New Cases of COVID-19 today, up from 9,629 yesterday. The ASEAN member state has now logged over 5.46 million Total Recoveries while Active Cases in the Republic have dipped below 300,000 from 313,000. Total Deaths stand at 152,745 in the populous archipelago with 308 New Deaths, up from 271 yesterday.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 9,042 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 9,701. 8 New Deaths were reported, up from 6 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 1,153. Active Cases in the island state have dipped to 39,000+ from 46,000+.  

Brunei reported 2,553 New Cases, up from 2,278 yesterday, taking Total Cases in the country to 116,500+ with 27,500+ Active Cases, down from 30,000+ yesterday. Total Deaths in Brunei have climbed to 84 with 1 New Death reported.

Myanmar reported 880 New Cases in the past 24 hours, up from 487 previously. Active Cases remain at the 28,000-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 558,500+. Health officials in the junta-run state reported 2 New Deaths, down from 3, resulting in Total Deaths rising to 19,411.

Lao reported 722 New Cases, up from 359 yesterday, taking Total Cases logged since the beginning of the pandemic to 147,000+. Lao reported 1 New Death, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 643. Active Cases remain below the 1,500-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 144,500+.

The Philippines recorded 554 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 564 previously. Active Cases have dipped below the 46,500-mark while 15 New Deaths were reported, down from 169. Total Recoveries now stand at more than 3.56 million while Total Deaths have climbed to 57,625.

Health officials in Cambodia have reported 139 New Cases of COVID-19, down from 145 yesterday, pushing Total Cases logged in the kingdom to 134,000+. Active Cases remain below the 2,000-mark. Total Deaths in the country have risen to 3,048 with 1 New Death reported.

Total Deaths across Southeast Asia now stand close to 334,000 with 590 New Deaths recorded today. On a positive note, over 20.61 million Total Recoveries have been reported across all 10 ASEAN member states to date.
