Many MLEs to hold back salary increases this year                                                                                                                                
KUALALUMPUR: Some 42% of the medium and large enterprises (MLEs) in Malaysiawill not be offering any raise to their employees this year, with 6%saying that they will slash salaries, according to data from the GrantThornton International Business Report (IBR).
The situation inneighbouring Singapore and Thailand also does not look too positivewith 49% of Singapore MLEs reporting that they would not be givingraises while in the case of Thailand, it was 38%.
On a globallevel, the report revealed that 21% of businesses did not plan to offersalary increases this year with 3% expecting to reduce.
“Thegloomiest salary predictions come from Asia Pacific where 29% of MLEswill offer no salary rise this year,” SJ Grant Thornton said in astatement yesterday.
Taiwan is the most extreme case with 72% ofrespondents indicating that they would offer no salary rises and 5%cutting it this year.
The IBR is an annual survey of the viewsof senior executives in privately held businesses all over the world.Launched in 1992 in nine European countries, the report now surveysover 7,200 MLEs in 36 economies.
Meanwhile, economies in theNordic region appeared prepared to be the most generous in the yearahead with 82% of respondents indicating that they intended to increasesalaries to match or exceed inflation rates compared with the globalaverage of 64%, SJ Grant Thornton said.
Denmark was the most upbeat with 91%, followed by Finland (89%) and Sweden (74%).
SJGrant Thornton managing partner Datuk N.K. Jasani said: “There is aworrying inclination for employees as 34% of employers are intending toincrease salaries only in line with inflation.
“With inflationrates falling around the world, salary increases in line with theserates may not offer much comfort to employees who are alreadystruggling in the downturn.”
On expectations for employment inthe year ahead, the report said that the majority of businessesexpected to decrease rather than increase their staff numbers.

macam mak cik sebelah rumah aku la,,keje gome..tapi selalu kutuk2 gomen seme tak betul..tapi bila gomen naik kan usia persaraan,nak plak sambung sampai 58 tak malu betul mak cik tu...

Setiap jumaat cuti unpaid..

Awal bulan dpt gaji ciput...yg lebih dpt penat jer..
Tapi kerja still melambak cam biasa., aku x nmpak pun mana yg economi crisis ni...

aku bonus last year 3 bulan tp tahun ni klau dapat sebulan pun aku syukur sangat.  bab bonus aku  x kisah sangat jgn x naik gaji dahlah.
