Lee Seo-Jin [이서진] as lead character, Yi San [1752 ~ 1800], whose imperial name is King Jeong-Jo [정조] (reign: 1776-1800)
Jeong-Jo is Joseon's 22nd Monarch who is remembered in Korean history as one of Korea's greatest Kings who loved the people and reigned for the commoner.
Han Ji-Min [한지민] will play 성송연 (Seong Song-Yeon), a palace maid loved by the king who later becomes his concubine.
actress Han Ji-Min previously appeared in Lee Pd's 'Dae Jang-Geum' drama.
Lee Jong-Su [이종수] as warrior Park Dae-Su (박대수) who loves Jeong-Jo's woman, Seong Song-Yeon.
Lee Sun-Jae [이순재] casts as King Yeong-Jo, 21st Monarch of Joseon, and Jeong-Jo's grandfather.
Yeong-Jo had 2 sons, but both died (1st at a young age, 2nd put to death by Yeong-Jo) thus the throne skipped a generation to Jeong-Jo.
Kyeon Mi-Ri [견미리] as Jeong-Jo's mother, Lady Hong of Hye-Kyeong [혜경궁 홍씨]
Lady Hye-Kyeong married Crown Prince Sado at the age of 15, but after Sado's death, she lost her title as crown princess and spends her life raising Jeong-Jo. In history she wrote a book called 'The Memoirs of Lady Hye-kyeong (한중록) which contains important facts about the latter Joseon era. Kyeon Mi-Ri was in Lee PD's 'Dae Jang-Geum'
Seong Hyeon-Ah [성현아] as (Princess) Hwa-Wan Ong-Ju [화완옹주] [1737 ~ 1808]
Jeong-Jo's aunt and political rival. Yeong-Jo's 9th daughter, born of a concubine (hence Ong-Ju instead of Gong-Ju).
Seong Hyeon-Ah was in Lee PD's 'Heo Jun' 8 years ago.
Kim Yeo-Jin [김여진] as Queen Jeong-Sun [정순왕후] [1745 ~ 1805].
Yeong-Jo's royal concubine who becomes queen after the death of Yeongjo's first wife, Jeong-Seong.
Kim was also in 'Dae Jang-Geum'
Lee Ip-Sae [이잎새] as Cho-Bi [초비], a palace maid serving royal concubine. Cho-Bi develops affection for warrior Park Dae-Su.
Lee Ip-Sae previously appeared in PD Lee's 'Dae Jang-Geum' and 'Heo Jun'.
Ji Sang-Ryeol [지상렬] as artist Lee, from family of art magistrate.
Ji was in 'Dae Jang-Geum' as well.
Han Sang-Jin [한상진]
to play the role of Hong Guk-Yeong [홍국영]
king Jeong Jo's right-hand man. Jeong Hu-Kyeom's rival. Han Sang-Jin was in 'White Towers' recently.
Jo Yeon-Woo [조연우]
as Jeong Hu-Kyeom [정후겸]
Prince Hwa-Wan's adoptive son. Jo yeon-woo was in 'what's up fox' and currently on 'moon-hee'
Lee Chang-Hun [이창훈]
as Sado Seja. Jeong Jo's father. He was in lee pd's 'seo dong's ballad'
o Kyeong-Hwan [조경환] as minister Choi he was in 'dae jang geum'
Myaeng Sang-Hun [맹상훈] as eunuch Nam. He was also in 'dae jang geum' and 'seo dong's ballad'
Lee Hui-Do [이희도] as uncle Park. The villian in 'dae jang geum'
Han In-Su [한인수 ] as Minister Chae another one from 'dae jang geum'
