That was in the 60s, when the commander of our SIR was a Malay Malaysian (like wtf).

Anyway, it really was a misunderstanding. Some f* Chinese commander misinterpreted an order to dismiss all Malaysians (Malays and Chinese included) as an order to dismiss all Malays. So naturally, there was a riot.

Debmey's racist, no doubt.

But honestly, in Singapore, in a sense Malays are (technically) favoured.
No other race in SG receives free education until JC level.
No other religion (other than Islam) gets government funding for Mosques. You should see the high-tech mosque I drove past the other day.
The Traffic Police closes one eye on illegal parking outside Mosques during Friday prayers. Same also at Malay weddings and funerals.
In the military though there are still some reservations regarding Malays but that has gradually died down over the years as increasing numbers of Malays consider Singapore as their country.

And free parking too. If you go to a line of fined vehacles with no coupon, the ones with arabic stickers get spared. I saw a tuding ahso look at the windscreen of one of those w/o ticket but arabic word decal and bypass it.
Its shameful.

That's because the Carpark Coupon Auntie jobs have been outsourced to Johor. Anyway, they're quite lax... A friend of mine was caught but let off easily.

So what?? Its completely logical to second our officers to the SIR back then since there is no sinaporean who's trained to be a battalion commander yet... if we were to totally tell singapore to f*ck off and let you guys fend for yourselves with the threat of Indonesian confrontation and PKM you'd accuse us of being irresponsible... heck Singapore might be known as the People's Socialist Republic of Singapore today!!  We offered to train your officers but nooo... so kiasu need to get help from others because dont want to feel inferior to your neighbour... must always be superior...

And I dunno what happened or what they tell you happened in the barracks back then but I sure doubt anyone could be as stupid to misinterpret a simple order like that...

Well, heres what racist Malaysia has...

Everyone gets free education and after that can get monetary and text book help if too poor.
Temples and churches are better maintained here.
Traffic police go easy not just friday prayers, but also on other religious prayers & festivals held.  They even provide traffic control service if requested.
The Malay Regt was set up by the Brits so it aint our fault everyone is Malay in it.  The Ranger Regt and other units we set up encourages non-Malays to join... some of our first Chiefs were non Malays.

Look, you're missing the point. Malaysia then was obliged to defend Singapore because Singapore then was part of Malaysia. Confrontation ended in 1965 because Singapore left Malaysia, which was actually part of the goal for Indonesia's confrontation. Obviously, help from Malaysia was no longer needed and we needed to have our "beloved" soveriegnty. At any case, PAP made a lot of enemies during our short holiday in Malaysia so replacing the commander was very important in case the ultra-nationalists tried to do something radical.

As for the misinterpretation of the order, that one we'll leave it to historians to decide. At any case, the misunderstanding was cleared up when Goh Keng Swee personally persuaded the Singaporean Malays to come back.

As for the offering to train our officers, that's a myth. None of our neighbours wanted to help, and all outsider countries who did offer were suspicious, hence the decision to let the Israelis train us.

So its totally ok to let SIngapore become the Peoples Socialist Republic of Singapore??  And the offer aint a myth... Emperor Lee just didn't like the idea of your SIR having to be trained by Malaysians... some SIR officers were trained in Port Dickson if you care to check your own history...

I think mat toro is a product of systematic historical revisisonism. Thats why his views simply don't make sense.
He has been taught even to think that institutionalised racism is good.

Offer some evidence?

And as for the People's Socialist Republic crap, LKY's purpose in joining Malaysia was partly to find a爓ay爐o爀liminate爐he燾ommunists.燬o爄n燼爏ense爃e's燼爏hrewd爎uthless爉anipulator.燘ut爐hat's爐he爓ay爄t爂oes爄f爕ou爓ant爐o燽e爏uccessful爄n爌olitics.

Im not too sure abt the govt funding for mosques or anything cos its not fair to the other religions. Cos in all malay singaporean muslims pay slip has a provision entitled mosque building fund which states a certain amt to be deducted every mth agreed by the individual for mosque building purposes. But imho i think the mosque building, financing, maintaining are done by the muslim community themselves from my experience as well as lots of donations from the individual not counting the contribution via the MBF.Muis and Mendaki has accumulated substantial assets and reserves which generate income for these activities. Abt the illegal parking its just more apparent because there arent as many mosques as churches or temples so when there are large congregrations or activities in mosques the illegal parking is more apparent. Ive seen crowded churches on sundays too having the same problems as well as popular temples. Furthermore mosques are located strategically to serve constituencies or residential estates hence the 'crowded' factor.Funerals are normal too, u should know what when there are 'wakes' under the blocks people tend to park everywhere cos theres no more parking left.Yes i agree abt the still current reservations on muslim in sensitive posts and areas as ive experienced it myself, but then im optimistic and have seen things moving on to a better light. SPIDEY anything that ive said is incorrect please correct it as ur more experienced!!!

Don't forget preferential university admission to Malays, etc some Chinese top students rejected from university admission and scholarship applications because the quota for Malays 'need to be met'.
Erosion of non-muslim rights because of controversial Syariah court decisions.
Temples and Churches are FAR better maintained in Singapore, just come and see for yourself.
All companies must have at least a allocated number of Malay directors.
Some malays have abused their rights by sueing their non-Malay bosses for dismissing them, on the grounds that "I am a bumiputra".

Actually I am of the opinion that if someone reverts to belittling others' races, it he has lost his argument. But those who have gone winchester and start invoking words like 'gays', 'arse-bangings' can step on the same boat as the hyena.
