'Dreamgirls' Remains No. 1 As Sales Keep Sliding

In yet another slow week for sales and new releases, the Sony soundtrack to "Dreamgirls" remains atop of The Billboard 200 for a second week straight. The set, which features performances by Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson, moved 60,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
By moving 66,000 copies last week, the soundtrack registered the lowest sales total for a No. 1 title since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. However, thanks to its 9% sales slide this week, a new low has yet again been set.
Akon's SRC/Universal release "Konvicted" keeps the No. 2 spot warm for a third week with 55,000 (-13%) while Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" (Jive) continues to rebound, 4-3, with 51,000 and a 2% sales dip. Daughtry's self-titled RCA debut falls 3-4 with 50,000 (-10%).
The soundtrack to the Disney Channel movie "Jump In!" bows at No. 5 with 49,000. The network experienced tremendous success with last year's chart-topper "High School Musical"; "Jump In!" also stars that project's Corbin Bleu. The effort includes tracks by Drew Seeley, Jeannie Ortega and the film's co-star, Keke Palmer.
Beyonce's "B'Day" re-enters the top tier with an 11-6 shift in its 19th week on the chart, selling 41,000 with a 3% decrease. The hits compilation "NOW 23" takes a 22% sales hit to 38,000, descending 5-7.
The Beatles' Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol set "Love" climbs a rung 9-8 with 37,000 (-17%) while Young Jeezy's Def Jam set "The Inspiration" slips 7-9 with 36,000 (-21%). Having spent 67 weeks on the chart, Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" rounds out the top 10, sliding up 18-10 with 35,000 and a 9% sales decrease.
Only one other album managed to debut in the first hundred entries on The Billboard 200 this week. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma's "Appassionato" (Sony
Classical) moved 9,000 copies, good enough for his best chart appearance yet at No. 79.
Overall, album sales are down 14% from last week's total and down 13.8% compared to the same week a year ago at 8.09 million units. Sales so far this year are down 16% compared to 2006 at 17.5 million units.

Sebenarnye, Beyonce & J-Hud adelah leading untuk citer Dreamgirls ni...but seperti yang aku telah war2kan, pihak produksi melobikan Bee untuk Main Actress dan J-Hud untuk Supporting Actress supaya mereka tak perlu bersaing sesama sendiri dimana2 award... |

untuk faktor komersial, memang penting Bee yang diwar2kan as a lead coz Bee adelah salah satu faktor orang nak tengok Dreamgirls...But once again, congrat J-Hud coz tercalon untuk 2 Oscar (Best Supporting Actress & Best Original Song "Love You I Do") dan jugak for Bee untuk nomination for Best Original Song (Listen).. |
