on the other hand, it could be a good idea that M'sia buys the Searcher too.
Since UAV are meant to be surveillance equipment for spying, it usually has no national markings.

So if country A in SEA, finds a crashed Searcher UAV in its territory.....where did it come from, if not from its own inventory.
But if country A finds a crashed Eagle UAV, its knows for sure it must come from M'sia.

that's the issue....we don't know who it belongs too since the Searcher has almost become the defacto standard UAV for ASEAN.

But we make it easy for eveyone, cause we use a different UAV. Everyone will know tha the Eagle UAV must surely belong to M'sia.

BTW, I saw the Eagle Mk1 at Lima, and its not way near the capability of Searcher.
The Eagle Mk2, the improved version, is suppose to be better. How much better ?

Surely the people most responsible for killing the Muslims are the Muslims themselves:

1) Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988)- 1,000,000 casualties (Sunni vs Shiite)

2) Egyptian-Yemen War (1962-1967) 1 ...

this has nothing to do with what i was trying to get at..and u had to bring this up..smart.
of course the Indonesians have the right..i didn't say they don't.

we could go on and on about deaths created by wars over the years, muslims vs muslims, christians vs christians etc..but missing the point here a bit.lets not go there..

Kebanyakan UAV ni ada basic design jer..macam kapalterbang RC jer..cuma yang lebih penting adalah sistem dalaman dan sensors yang UAV tu bawak..

Indonesia buys Israeli UAVs despite protests
By Siva Govindasamy

Indonesia plans to go ahead with purchasing four Israeli-made unmanned air vehicles, despite protests about buying the aircraft from a country it does not recognise diplomatically.

The $6 million deal with Kital Philippines, a Philippines-based trading company, for the Searcher 2 UAVs includes a command post, controlling equipment and infrared cameras, says an industry source. The UAVs were chosen from 42 bids.

Delivery is expected by early 2007 and the UAVs will be used for surveillance of the Indonesian archipelago and Malacca Straits.

"This is the world's most sophisticated UAV and has been tested for years while doing the job along Israel's borders with Arab countries," the Indonesian defence ministry says in local news reports.

But some Indonesian parliamentarians have called the purchase "unethical" because the country has no diplomatic ties with Israel. Islamic groups have also held protests against the plan in Jakarta.

The ministry defended its move by saying it was merely buying aircraft licensed by Israel and not dealing directly with the country.

Is it really a surprise that many countries have bought Israeli UAV's?

Israel has a long history of creating and using UAV's especially after the Yom Kippur War (1973). Israel's first UAV prototype flew as early as 1975. Israeli UAV's such as the Mastiff and Scout were used successfully against Syrian SAM sites in the Bekaa Valley during the war with Lebanon (1982). Israel has also developed other types of UAV such as the Harpy which is used to destroy enemy radar, and newer models such as the Searcher/Searcher II.

Yea....i read some where about the above. The Israeli cunningly operated UAV/ some mock flight just to force the Syrian air defence to shoot them. Eventually the Syrian found out that they were not shooting the Israeli a/c.
In return, the Israeli made an offensive attack against the Syrian causing a great damage.

Cunning wily foxy...defenitely studied by the "sepet" lion..:jeling:

Thanks bro...read about the eagle in tempur/ perajurit previously, but never thought that the effort just faded away...
What about the costs of making this eagle...did the Mindef ever funded this eagle project? Any subsequent post mortem?...Hmm....There goes our taxes, again and again..

I think that Malaysia has to be realistic when it comes to defence projects. Designing and manufacturing your own weapons is a VERY expensive undertaking and requires massive amounts of R & D. What is going to make it even more expensive for Malaysia is that we have a very small military and that means our demand is not going to fit in with any economies of scale. That means that the cost of design and R&D is going to be more than any profit which we will make from sales. Even countries with extensive experience in designing and manufacturing weapons such as Sweden & Switzerland tend to do JV these days. The R & D of modern weapons is very expensive. So for Malaysia, maybe it would be better to just buy off the shelf weapons, or commit to one defence bloc for our needs: US, Europe, Russia, China or India, and do a JV with them. We provide the money, they provide the R & D and Tech.

Doing R&D for UAV is not as costly as doing R&D for a fighter plane... well at least Malaysia should embark on learning about military technologies rather than buying everything from others... If you teach a man to fish, he can eat fish forever.. BUT, if you only give him a fish, he can only eat fish for a day only..
