TMnet To Increase Broadband Capacity

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Internet services provider, TMNet Sdn Bhd, plans to increase its broadband capacity to four megabit (MB) by year-end from existing two MB to cater to the emerging technological evolution trend of IPTV (Internet protocol television), broadband phone, video phone and online learning.

TMNet general manager (corporate strategy/services), Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, said Malaysia was currently in the second phase of the broadband life cycle and to move to the third stage of the growing technology in IPTV and broadband phone it would need a greater bandwidth and infrastructure.

"Currently, we have 700,000 subscribers and we expect to increase them to 900,000 by year-end," he said at the inaugural Business & Technology Speakers' Series Forum entitled "Triple Play: Exploring Potentials and Monetising Opportunities" here Wednesday.

The forum is organised by Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV).

Another speaker, Andrew Chetham, research vice president (telecommunications) of Gartner, said IPTV would be essentially the future applications platform.

"The IPTV market has a low price entry level.

"Asia is leading the revolution and is the fastest-growing market for IPTV, followed by Europe and the US," he said.

Earlier, in his speech at the opening of the forum, MDV managing director/chief executive officer, Md Zubir Ansori Yahaya, said triple play deployment was surging ahead and in the next three years, 80 percent of the world's broadband subscribers would be in Asia.

"The region is leading the broadband adoption to the home and mobile devices supported by a better infrastructure that can accept triple play," he said.

Zubir said trends towards triple play were already evolving with the recent announcement by the government to form a telecommunications infrastructure and management company.

"Such efforts from the government will further spur the broadband penetration which stands at two percent in the first quarter of 2006," he said.

The forum aims to provide a platform for marketing, networking and knowledge-sharing within the industry players.

Bagi aku tak payah la nak naik taraf ke 4Mbps kalo service 1Mbps pun dah serupa guna dial-up.. baik improvekan dulu service yang dah sedia ada.. pastu baru upgrade

Dan aku rasa charge untuk 4Mbps ni mesti mahall

korang rasa logik tak kalau kita bayar duit lebih kat orang tertentu kat tmnet/streamyx, dia boleh naikkan broandband capacity kita kepada, maybe 4-6mbps, tanpa masuk bil @ without knowledge from telekom? ada satu cc kat pandan jaya penah claim yg dia bayar around rm2000 utk dptkan speed 4mbps. ni citer tahun lepas, kalau tipu dia, tipu la aku juga. dia siap test bandwith speed kat testmy.net depan aku. yg aku pulak tak bagi perhatian masa tu, awek2 lepak situ mengganggu kosentrasi ku. tapi dari rupa gaya cam betul/bersungguh je dia. nama cc ni suria islamic media cyber cafe, depan lrt pandan jaya. kepunyaan seorang rakan kepada rakan yg lain.

huh?? 4Mbps?? rasanye TMNUT baru pakai sampai 2Mb je...tu pun utk kegunaan office n bank...home user tak lagi sebab mahall equipment tu n die pakai fiber optik....so home user takde harapan sangatlah sebab kita pakai copper

dulu ada member i bribe the technician tu alah yang mai install dari TMnet not from contractor, dia suap RM200, perggh dia bukak maximum 8mbps downlink, 1 mbps uplink. damn~!

Kalo tak silap aku paling tinggi copper line leh pegi yelah 8 Mbps download 1 Mbps upload kot? buat masa ni takyah upgrade ke fiber optic pun takpe.

Yang aku tau. Speed 8 Mbps ni diorang dah lama ada.. cuma taknak launch je

Kalo launchkan pun mesti diorang charge mahal2.

Tapikan... 8Mbps down and 1Mbps up... dengan rate streamyx sekarang ni agaknya reallife speed 80kbps down and 10kbps up kot? :hmm:

Atleast ok skit kot compare dengan speed sekarang ni yang teramattt laaa lambat.
Kalo 8 Mbps agak2 boleh dapat download speed kira2 600 - 750 Kbps ke. Okey laa tu
