Malaysians on 12.12 shopping frenzy

PETALING JAYA: E-commerce platforms and retailers witnessed a shopping frenzy as people took advantage of the 12.12 sale for year-end purchases.
Shopee Malaysia regional managing director Ian Ho said the platform kicked off its 12.12 Birthday Sale on a high note, with four times more items sold in the first hour compared to last year.
One user, he said, made 180 orders in the morning of Dec 12.
Based on data on the sale’s first eight hours, Shopee saw Malaysians were mostly stocking up on essential items, especially food.
“Home and living products, groceries, and health and beauty products were the most popular product categories.
“As stay-at-home efforts continue, it was found that over 200,000 units of snacks were sold in the first eight hours of Dec 12, ” he said.
Parents also snapped up back-to-school items, with over 190,000 stationery items and over 53,000 units of school uniforms, bags and shoes being sold on Shopee.
Lazada Malaysia chief executive officer Leo Chow said the platform reached a new milestone for the 12.12 sale.
“Malaysia is ending the year strong – having beaten our last year’s first-day sales performance within just half a day, ” he said in a LinkedIn post.
Malaysia Retailers Association vice-president Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said retailers witnessed strong demand for the year-end online shopping sale, including 9.9,10.10 and 11.11 deals.
Mydin managing director Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd also noted that they raked in sales worth over RM500,000 in a day on the sale.
“We were expecting the same on 12.12, especially as it fits well within the pre-festive and new year season where shopping activity will be robust with party preparations and gifting items, ” he said.
Nur Hidayatul Husna, 24, from Ipoh said she saved over RM150 on fitness and skincare items during the 12.12 promotion period.
“By using promotional deals offered by shopping platforms and participating banks, I saved almost 20% from the original price.
“I bought some fitness products such as resistance bands, ” the event and marketing executive said.
As an online shopping enthusiast, Hidayatul said she would always track her expenditure and shop mostly during the promotion period.
“I usually use my credit card voucher to get cashback benefits. So, by using the vouchers and discounts from the platforms, I can save a lot.
“Obviously, I enjoyed these offers from any platform because I can directly compare prices and get benefits from online cashbacks, credit card cashbacks and platform vouchers, ” she said.
Hidayatul also joined a Facebook group that discusses on and shares latest updates about shopping vouchers and discounts.
Church worker Danielle Cheng, 27, said she waited for 12.12 deals to stretch her money further.
“I saw posters about the 12.12 promotions and the items I bought were definitely cheaper.
“I bought a portable monitor for my laptop and I also got a Christmas present for my sister, ” she said.

Banyak kali aku jumpe. So moral of the story, usah jengok time 11.11 or 12.12 je. Jengok in between. Bila buyer tak masok app time tu rege lagi turon kadang2.

Seller tu buad Shocking Sale kunoon. But what was way shocking was bila dah abih time slot tu aku masok balik tengok (dengan perasaan frust sebab Shocking Sale dah abih) rege menjunam lebih murah. Aku memang taram sangat sampe nak repot kat Shopee. Juz dat aku takde mase je.
Jualan 12.12 rekod kejayaan luar biasa bagi Shopee

KUALA LUMPUR: Shopee berjaya mencipta impak besar di kempen 12.12 Jualan Ulangtahunnya dengan merekodkan peningkatan jualan di seluruh negara.
Pengarah Urusan Serantau Shopee, Ian Ho, berkata jualan tertinggi direkodkan di Selangor sebanyak 875,000 barangan dalam tempoh sejam pertama kempen itu dijalankan.
Beliau berkata, ia adalah rekod kejayaan Shopee dan 2020 adalah tahun yang memberikan pengalaman baharu kepada syarikat.
"Disebabkan keadaan yang belum pernah terjadi sebelum ini disebabkan COVID-19, kami ingin memastikan bahawa ulangtahun kelima ini akan menjadi hari istimewa bukan hanya untuk Shopee tetapi pelanggan.
"Di peringkat serantau pula merangkumi jualan di tujuh negara Asia Tenggara dan Taiwan, Shopee mencatatkan jualan sebanyak 12 juta produk dalam tempoh 24 minit pertama pada 12 Disember.
"Pada kemuncaknya, sebanyak satu juta barangan dibeli dalam satu minit dari lebih dari dua bilion produk yang ditawarkan," katanya dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.
Ian berkata, peningkatan aktiviti membeli-belah juga disambut dengan peningkatan penggunaan pembayaran digital.
Beliau berkata, pengguna menikmati kemudahan dompet mudah alih bersepadu ShopeePay, dengan pesanan yang dibayar melalui dompet mudah alih meningkat 18 kali ganda.

"Awal bulan ini, Shopee turut mengumumkan usaha untuk meningkatkan trafik dari platformnya ke kedai fizikal peruncit luar talian. Ratusan ribu pelanggan memanfaatkan tawaran makanan dan minuman (F&B) menarik yang ditawarkan di Shopee dengan potongan harga sehingga 98 peratus.
"Perniagaan seperti FamilyMart terus mencatatkan jualan lebih 80,000 baucar pada pelbagai tawaran sepanjang kempen berlangsung dari 1 Disember hingga 12 Disember," katanya dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.
Ian berkata, segmen rumah dan gaya hidup, barangan runcit, kesihatan dan kecantikan serta aksesori dan telefon pintar muncul sebagai kategori produk terlaris.
