Wigan v Man Utd
PREMIER LEAGUE
Venue: JJB Stadium
Date: Wednesday, 13 May Kick-off: 2000 BST

Manchester United will check on the fitness of central defenders Rio Ferdinand (calf) and Jonny Evans (hamstring) before Wednesday's game.

John O'Shea will deputise if both are ruled out, while midfielders Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and striker Wayne Rooney are set to be recalled.

Wigan will be without Egypt striker Amr Zaki because of a knee injury.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is also struggling with a back injury and Richard Kingson is set to deputise.

United can move a step closer to their third successive Premier League title with victory at the JJB Stadium.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side need four more points from their remaining three league games to take the crown.

Ferdinand missed Sunday's Manchester derby after picking up a calf strain in training on Saturday.

His replacement Evans limped off with a hamstring injury midway through the 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

If both are injured and O'Shea switches to the centre of defence, Ferguson must choose between Rafael Da Silva or fit-again Gary Neville.

Ferdinand, though, is reluctant to return too early, knowing United could secure the Premier League trophy, assuming they beat Wigan, in front of their home fans against Arsenal on Saturday.

"I have won it at away grounds and been in my house when another team has lost, so it would be nice to win it at Old Trafford," he said.

"But in all honesty, I would win it anywhere. I would win it on the grass outside the training ground if I had to."

Wigan's Kirkland and Zaki were injured in Saturday's 3-1 defeat by West Brom.

Tevez could sign for free

United could try to sign Carlos Tevez on a Bosman-style free transfer. SunSport understands the Red Devils are exploring whether there are legal loopholes in the striker抯 contract. In particular, the third party ownership agreement which ties Tevez with the investment company MSI is under scrutiny. Leading sports lawyers are looking at whether the ownership of Tevez抯 registration by MSI could be challenged under the same terms as Jean Marc Bosman took on the old transfer system. His advisor Kia Joorabchian said once again yesterday that no deal is close with United and that Tevez is willing to sign for one of their Premier League rivals. 揥hat he wants to do is to go to a club which has real ambition, a real focus, to be champions of England, champions of Europe, champions of everywhere. Obviously, leaving United he would have to go to a rival in order to achieve that target. But he understands it抯 not in his control.

Blog: Crerand feeling confident

Reds legend and MUTV pundit Paddy Crerand isn't expecting any slip-ups at Wigan this evening...

So United抯 game in hand is finally here and I抦 confident we抣l make the most of it at the JJB Stadium tonight.

United have hit form at just the right time in the last few weeks and the manager has got it spot on with his team selections in every game. He picks an eleven he believes is right for each match, while always thinking about the games ahead, and every time he does it, it seems to work.

He rested a few players in the win over City and I think the likes of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick may be back in the side tonight. Wigan will be under no pressure, but they抳e been having a bad time of it recently with just one point from their last five games. It looks like they抣l be without their goalkeeper Chris Kirkland too who has a back injury which is a blow for them and they抣l be up against a United side who will be desperate to get the title wrapped up as soon as possible.

Going to the JJB will, of course, bring back great memories of last season抯 title party when we won it on the final day. Ronaldo set us on the way with a goal from the penalty spot, before Ryan came off the bench to seal it. It was a fantastic day for everyone and I hope the United fans have another great night tonight.

The chance to play in the Champions League final will be a great motivator for the players to keep up their high standards in the last three league games. Everyone wants to play in Rome and all the players will be doing their best to impress the manager in the run-up to the final. For that reason I抣l don抰 think they抣l be any slip-ups. We抮e just four points away from glory now and a victory this evening will mean we抮e almost there.

rasanya takleh kot european law or not, i don't tevez will be willing to do that, remember he and mascherano didn't play and abandoned corinthians after they have won the brazilian championship that led to corinthians being relegated the season after

i just don't think it will be that simple just because bossman rule said that

Is Vid Barca bound?

The rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid refuse to die down, but according to Graham Hunter, he might not be the only Manchester United star heading to Spain this summer.

Revista's Spain-based journalist believes United defender Nemanja Vidic could be subject to an approach from La Liga leaders Barcelona after the two teams meet in the Champions League final later this month.

The Catalan giants are on course for an unprecedented treble this season, but have identified the centre-half position as an area of weakness and are determined to strengthen when the transfer window re-opens.

Hunter reckons Serbian international Vidic is top of their shopping list and with his family apparently unsettled in England, Barcelona are hoping to tempt the defender to Spain.

Hunter said: "One of the things that has already started is the process of trying to analyse what the weaknesses of this season have been, however successful it's been and however attractive it's been.

"Barcelona would like to reinforce the centre-half position and they'd like a left-sided centre-half, whether he plays off his right or his left foot, who in the future can grow into playing next to Gerard Pique.

"The man they want is Nemanja Vidic and indeed when you comb the market and do your research you find out more than just the technical abilities of a player.

"It's Barcelona's full belief that Vidic's wife wants to leave England, that Vidic is open minded to that and that Manchester United know about this.

"I can't speak for Manchester United and I can't say that Manchester United are willing to sell.

"But what I can tell you for absolutely sure is that technical spec that Barcelona have placed around Vidic - his athletic ability, his height, his aggressiveness - and their belief in getting market information is that he's the right man.

"They think it's do-able, so watch for that coming over the next few weeks.

"It puts a bit of pressure on Vidic ahead of Rome too, doesn't it?":@ :@ :@ :@
