Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has fans in stitches for radio sitcom return
tar agreed to come back for last ever episode of Radio 4 sitcom Cabin Pressure to reprise role he took on back in 2008
'It was a hilarious night with Benedict often helping set up the punchlines for his co-stars, instead of being the leading man for a change'
Benedict Cumberbatch delighted his fans with a “hilarious” radio performance that couldn't be further from his Sherlock role.
The acclaimed actor, 37, was the main reason a record 22,800 people applied to attend the last ever episode of Radio 4 sitcom Cabin Pressure.
Once inside, the lucky 200 audience members at London's RADA studios on Sunday night saw an acting masterclass, with Benedict joined by The Thick Of It star Roger Allam, Stephanie Cole and show creator John Finnemore as well as guest stars.
Based around a one plane charter airline run “on a wing and a prayer” owned by divorcee Carolyn.
Benedict plays dozy Captain Martin Crieff, said to have passed his flying exams at the seventh attempt.
Unlike Sherlock, Martin has no powers of deduction and is far from a perfect pilot, despite being obsessed with planes.
Benedict took on the role back in 2008 when the radio show began and they last made a series in December 2012.
Although he is now among the most wanted stars in Hollywood, he agreed to come back for one last episode.

A BBC source said: "Benedict may be a big name now but he has not forgotten who he worked with on his way up and he has always loved making Cabin Pressure. There was no way he would let anyone down and he made sure there was room in his diary to film one last feature length episode where Martin has some big decisions to make.
“It was a hilarious night with Benedict often helping set up the punchlines for his co-stars, instead of being the leading man for a change.”
Afterwards Benedict looked close to tears as creator John Finnemore gave an emotional speech thanking those taking part who were sat behind him and have helped “makes dreams come true” for him in the last five years.
Benedict hugged John at the end of the speech and also embraced Roger Allam and Stephanie Cole as they realised they had delivered the show's last ever lines.
Cumberbatch was then mobbed for photographs and autographs but calmly and kindly stayed on stage to pose with fans and sign tickets.
Sadly for the 50 or so fans waiting outside RADA who didn’t get in - and Benedict’s millions of fans around the world - there is set to be quite a long wait to hear Benedict in this role of Martin Crieff for one last time.
The show’s producer announced on stage that bosses at Radio 4 currently plan to air the last ever episode of Cabin Pressure on Christmas Eve.
The Ultimate Conflict: Benedict Cumberbatch Vs. Tom Hiddleston
Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch are beloved by the world and are similar in many ways. They both have beautiful British mannerisms, wicked sense of humours, and are by no means afraid to mock themselves. Oh, we probably shouldn’t forget to mention that they are both unbelievably sexy. But who comes out on top in the battle of the sexiest upper middle class actors with voices of velvet?
Top Impressions
Benedict Cumberbatch impersonating Alan Rickman and Chewbacca and Graham Norton. ‘Nuff said.
But... Tom Hiddleston could win an Oscar with his impression of Owen Wilson. He does Alan Rickman too. And a Velociraptor.
Winner: Benedict Cumberbatch. Even Harrison Ford was impressed with his rendition of Chewy.
Top Pranks
It looks like Benedict Cumberbatch is more the prankee than the pranker – during the filming of Star Trek, Simon Pegg told Benny that he had to wear dots of cream of his face to neutralise the neutrons and he BELIEVED IT.
Tom Hiddleston is quite the prankster prince with his “Loki’d” ways – basically in a skit he goes out of his way to prank his friend Josh Horowitz by doing things like giving him decaffeinated coffee and paying for his lunch. LOKI’D!
Sexiest Dancing
Benedict Cumberbatch loves to dance, and there’s a particularly hilarious video of him grooving along to Thriller. Of course we can’t ignore his ballet skills in series 3 of Sherlock as well, rocking that pirouette Benedict. Great job.
You don’t even need to ask Tom Hiddleston to dance – he’ll just do it. He’s grooved all across the world as fans have fallen deeply in love with his mad moves.
Winner: BOTH. This isn’t against the rules WE MAKE THE RULES.
Evil Prowess
Benedict Cumberbatch played the malevolent Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness and stirred fear (and adoration) in our hearts with his rage that bubbled just under the surface. There is something distinctly unlovable about Khan though…it might be that he tears heads in half.
Tom Hiddleston shot to fame as fan favourite Loki from the Marvel universe. He’s now played the role of the cheeky God in three movies, and we never want him to stop. Ever.
Winner: Tom Hiddleston
Most Devoted Fanbase
This is a tricky one. Benedict Cumberbatch’s fans affectionately call themselves Cumberbitches and fawn over him like the God that he is (quite rightly). During the Graham Norton show fans came to adore him from Germany, Hong Kong and Nebraska!
Tom Hiddleston’s fans lurve him. You just need to look at Tumblr, though you should be prepared for a whirlwind of gifs at Tom smiling at you. It will be overwhelming. But wonderful. It’s also a little awkward that Loki is a MUCH bigger fanbase than the Marvel good guys.
Winner: Benedict Cumberbitch. *batch.
Most Glorious Sesame Street Appearance
Benedict Cumberbatch helped count some apples and oranges whilst Murray and the Count thought he was Sherlock. He turned out to be utterly useless at counting.
Tom Hiddleston taught the Cookie Monster all about delayed gratification by asking him to wait to eat his cookie. THE COOKIE MONSTER LISTENS TO HIM. This is the self same Cookie Monster who once ate the MOON because it looks like a cookie. Tom must have powers none of us could have imagined.
Winner: Tom Hiddleston
Loveliest Bromance
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman ARE Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, who in turn are the greatest broamnce of all time, so Benedict is surely a shoe in for this award, right?
Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth though. These two quip and tease each other all the time, oh, and they’ve been on a road trip along with Liam Hemsworth. Interesting.
Abam Ben nominated utk Saturn Award untuk star trek into darkness Best Supporting Actor

Tell us about The Imitation Game, the forthcoming film about wartime cryptographer Alan Turing, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. You paid a record sum of $7m for the US rights?
Yes I did but I saw 20 minutes of footage and it confirmed my belief that the script was great. Benedict's performance is unbelievable. He blew me away. It's slated for a new year release and I can't wait.
