finished reading this book:

Setting her story in Salvation, N.C., Phillips adeptly develops the theme of love's healing power. Broke and desperate to provide a better life for her son, gutsy Rachel Stone ends up in Salvation when her car breaks down. She knows the place?even worse, they know her as the widow of G. Dwayne Snopes, a televangelist who fled stealing millions. Luckily, Gabe Bonner, who owns a drive-in theater where Rachel asks for work, seems to be the only person who doesn't recognize her right off. Rachel's proud mettle distracts Gabe from the grief of his own tragic loss, but enemies strike out at Rachel, while Gabe's brothers mount a family defense against the gold-digging widow. Phillips (Heaven, Texas) digs deep to expose weaknesses and strengths in the psyche and faith of her characters. The result is a book that is touching, funny, sexy and humane.

my review:
this book is excellent.. since the setting of the story is different, the background of the heroine is very much scandolous, where she got married with a man who claimed he is a televangelist of God. then the husband died, and the believers hate her.

about the hero, he just lost his wife and son in an accident.

thus, starts the lesson on forgiveness and finding love in second chance.

this, i think is the second book in the bonner family by SEP. the first one is entitled "nobody's baby but mine"

Coincidentally,I am in the middle of read-through my an immense ever-growing collection of whodunnit mystery books. It is a habit of mine to write a review for each book I've read. So,with a pleasure, for this competition sake,I submit my reviews(from time to time until up to the due date of 31 July 2007) to you for your evaluation. Thanks in advance for spending your time reading my reviews.

Title : The Problem of the Green Capsule aka The Black Spectacles (1939)
Writer : John Dickson Carr aka Carter Dickson
Detective : Dr Gideon Fell
Genre : Classic Whodunnit-Mystery
Publisher : A Bantam Mystery
My Version : Paperback
Pages : 168 pg
Buy From : Ebay Website
Rating star(max 5 stars) : 4 stars

Interesting phrase : " We are travelling in a house of illusions, a box of tricks, a particularly devious sort of ghost-train."

My Review :

Carr's version of Agatha Christie's Cards on the Table, and, like that book, as brilliantly tricky a detective story as the reader could wish for. The rich dilettante Marcus Chesney uses a psychological observation test to demonstrate the method used to poison several children, the revelation of which trick would clear Marjorie Wills, his niece, from suspicion. She - and two other people - were watching Chesney's on-stage murder, in full view of each other; and Chesney's brother, the only other possible suspect, has a cast-iron alibi. Nobody could have committed the crime -yet it was committed. This is the authentic Carr touch, and the solution is typical of 1930s Carr: utterly brilliant, utterly surprising, and utterly convincing. Highly recommended

Title : The French Powder Mystery(1930)
Writer : Ellery Queen pseudonym for two writers Frederick Dannay and Manfred B. Lee
Detective : Ellery Queen
Genre : Classic Whodunnit-Mystery
Publisher : Grosset and Dunlap
My Version : Hardcover
Pages : 316pg
Buy From : Ebay Website
Rating star(max 5 stars) : 4 stars

Interesting phrase : " So you attend my impromput classes upstairs, sir?"

My review :

The French Powder Mystery (1930), like its successor, contains a strong initial investigation. Here however, that investigation takes up 25 chapters, or the first two thirds of the book. This investigation shows EQ's astonishing skills at constructing a detective story plot. The crime and the events surrounding it develop into ever more complex and logical patterns; Ellery moves through several stages of deduction, each leading to a deeper understanding of the crime itself. The story has considerable beauty; the inquiry about the keys, or the timetables involved show EQ's ability to create fascinating patterns of plot. This book is paradigmatic of later EQ investigations, and shows why he is so much loved as an author.

EQ likes boundaries involving space, time and knowledge. He is fascinated with rooms that have not been entered, lines that have not been crossed, apartments that have been guarded and watched. He is also concerned with who knew things and didn't know things, which in turn often depends on who has participated in events and who hasn't. These become boundary markers in the complex logical geometry of his plots.

The limitations of the novel, and its reason for still classifying it as a journeyman work, deal with the solution. Later EQ novels will often have the most startling surprises in their solutions; this book runs out of steam two thirds of the way through, and its solution adds only a single new clue, together with the identity of the murderer. These are logical and fair, but not the deeply creative finales of the great EQ books. EQ, as is his wont, has given partial solutions to the crime at several stages in the body of the book, so the reader gets a full mead of deduction and revelation in the novel. But there is almost nothing left over for the finale. Highly recommended

Title : Green for Danger (1944)
Writer : Christianna Barand
Detective : Inspector Cockrill
Genre : Classic Whodunnit-Mystery
Publisher : Perennial Library
My Version : Paperback
Pages : 250 pg
Buy From : Ebay Website
Rating star(max 5 stars) : 5 stars

Interesting phrase : Cockrill states at one point, "My presence lay over the hospital like a pall - I found it all tremendously enjoyable"

My review :

The book was praised for its clever plot, interesting characters, and wartime hospital setting. A murder takes place in a rural British hospital. Inspector Cockrill is tasked to determine whodunit when the head nurse is killed after revealing that the death of a patient under anesthesia was no accident. After another murder attempt leaves a nurse dangerously ill he re-stages the operation in order to unmask the murderer.

This book throughly enjoyable in the nod of Agatha Christie type of mystery. I was so shocked in the last denouement as my prediction of the murderer totally wrong! Highly recommended

Title : Overture to Death (1939)
Writer : Ngaio Marsh
Detective : Inspector Roderick Alleyn
Genre : Classic Whodunnit-Mystery
Publisher : A St. Martin Mystery
My Version : Paperback
Pages : 319 pg
Buy From : Kinokuniya
Rating star(max 5 stars) : 4 stars

Interesting phrase : "This is an ugly business"

My review :

Who in the quiet village of Chipping would kill wealthy spinster Idris Campanula?Plenty of people, among them her fellow cast members from troubled charity production.

Her masterpiece. The murder by exploding piano is splendid; the plot and timetable complex; and the characterisation superb, especially of middle-aged lovelorn females. The murderer can be spotted before the end

To both of the kind moderators,

I know this question, for whatever reason, should not be posted here, but for an absolute reason that the appropriate thread has been locked,it is only natural for me,for the sake of others too(of course I can send both of you PM),to post the following question here.

The question goes....or maybe the questions go...

Re: Posting Review competition(until 31 July 2007)

How many review,if any, one forumner can write? Is there any maximum quota of reviews to be given per day?

If one purposely does not attached the picture of book's cover or does not list down the name of the characters,is one disqualified for being evaluate?

Warm Regards,
Peminat Islam,buku and ct.

managed to finish all 17 books in the Dark series by Christine Feehan. Love Dark Legend the most. The rest is equally good. You would think that Ms Feehan would run out of ideas how to make her Carpathians interesting after the 3rd novel but she managed to introduce lots of twists and turns and suprises. dragonseekers, jaguars and psychic. I was glued to those books for the past two months! and Dark Celebration is kind of nostalgic since all the lifemates is back into their homeland and trying to celebrate Christmas.

complete list
dark prince
dark desire
dark gold
dark magic
dark challenge
dark fire
dark dream
dark legend
dark guardian
scarletti curse
dark symphony
dark descent
dark melody
dark destiny
dark hunger
dark secret
dark demon
dark celebration

how to kill your husband .. (and other household hints)- kathy lette

caution: not recommend for people who do not have funny bone

this is the story of 3 friends , Jazz the SAHM who gives her career as chef to support her philantropist doc hubby, Hannah the childless career woman with a hubby who have been sponging her off since they are dating and the narrator Cassie a working mum with crumbling career as a teacher and a hubby who never grew out of puberty.

the tale is riddled with dark, black humour. It poke fun at ourselves so hard that we bled.

my fav quote " a child is a woman's greatest love affair"
fav dialogue;
hubby: don't you love me anymore
wife : I just don't need you anymore.
