복숭아나무 구혜선 감독 인터뷰 후기
=Editorial communications image of peach trees Goo director interview reviews
This interview is from the December issue of monthly magazine called "Mind Training".
Interview took place at Seoul Sam Chung-dong in a cafe.
GHS wearing a peach-colored knitted sweater...So~pretty GHS-ssi greeted us brightly.
At this time, there are articles in the news stating that GHS's Peach Tree is a failure. However, Dir GHS leaves these statements in her tweeter: “‘복숭아나무’는 구혜선 필름이 직접 제작한 영화입니다. 세상에 꺼내 놓았다는 것에 큰 의미를 두고 있습니다. ="Peach Tree" is produced soley by GHSFilm. The fact that it is out in the world has an enormous meaning. 복숭아나무를 사랑해주신 관객분들과 이를 제공해주신 조이엔컨텐츠그룹에 진심으로 감사드립니다.” =I deeply and sincerely thank all the people who loved PT and to JoyNContents Group for ?offering?=maybe distributing?
Dir GHS also wrote in her tweeter" Using my second failure as a foothold, I am working on my third scenario." When I (the magazine interviewer) read her tweets, I said to myself, "That sounds like GHS!"
The GHS that I met in person is a young person who is more passionate and more positive than anyone I have ever met. She is a very open person who is not complacent in the face of reality but creates her own life in spite of it.
"~To be able to make one's life the happiest, do we really have to ?be mindful of other people's views and prejudices?"
As she talks, I felt as if I am talking, not with an actress, but with another person who happens to give off such good energy. Peach Tree has been invited to the 31st Brussel International Fantastic Film Festival (or BIFFF).
Now that there is such a good news about her movie, I am so looking forward to further development of GHS as a director. To Director GHS-nim as well as all the actors who appeard in PT~ JSW, RDH and NSM,,,to all of them, FIGHTING!!!

Hearing that GHS will be interviewed, many fans wrote their cheering words and posts through tweeter, facebook and other magazine reporters. There were so many questions but we can only report on just several of them.
People asked this question the most: Q: You are so active as actress, singer, composer, director, etc. Ultimately, what is your dream? Whenever such a question is posed to her, GHS always answered that everything that she does is for the movie..that they are all necessary components for making a movie. HS: "If you keep it only to yourself, it is just stuck inside your thoughts only. You must take it out and show it. If you get hurt, then you must accept and deal with it." GHS also met many great mentors like the late Jung SeungHye who encouraged and guided her. I realized that mentors are really essential.

So, I asked her a slightly different question.
Q: You get asked so often about how you are so active in so many things. How do you feel when you are asked about that?
GHS: I felt that I must answer/talk better. I do have a reasonable rationalization for what I do. I have said that all those parts come together to become a movie as if they have an inevitable relationship. (laughter) However, I do feel that time has really changed. Some may refer to it as "multi" and I have been thinking about it a great deal. For example, if you want to make a great tasting plate of food, it is not enough to just make the dish. You also need to have that much competitive edge and that much of a vision. In a way, this is my vision. (laughter) Q: So, ultimately what do you really want to do? GHS: If I direct, I can do it all. (laughter) Q: What is your own ways to overcome slump? GHS: I seclude. hmm Rather than secluding, I change my environment. Rather than doing anything about it, I just let it be. I leave it alone and communicate honestly about it. Then, even what felt so serious and hard no longer feel that way and I wonder why it felt so serious and hard. I cannot remember it any longer because I also start to think that I did not have to think that way. If something feels hard and serious, I often realize that even this will eventually pass. Q: You started out as ulzzang. If you just stayed that way, what would you be doing now? GHS: (laughter) In some part, I do like it a lot when people think of me as ulzzang. Even so, I would still have lived the life I wanted. Even if I am to be re-born, I think I will still be doing this work. And, I would have studied it too. Q: Is there a role that you really want to play? If you are to change in acting? GHS: Actually, I really don't think about that. (laughter) Q: How do you stay so young looking? GHS: (hahahaha) reduce stress? If it bothers me, I just let it alone for a while.

Q: The Peach Tree's field scene was very beautiful. Where did you film it? GHS: TaeShin Ranch/Farm. At the time of filming, we were in the middle of winter. Green grass was really hard to find. But we found it there. But, there were no trees there. The owner got a tree and planted it for us. He was amazingly kind and I am so grateful. (Can you believe this GHS-ssi? She has the nerve to have the confidence and faith that she can find green grass in winter!! Woah!) Q: How do you instruct people to act as a director? GHS: I merely give them the skeleton. I leave the rest to the actors. JSW, RDH and NSM are all top actors. They are truly blank canvass actors. They can fit any roles given to them. They gave me so much confidence. I think of them as having raised me. Q: Some parts of 'Peach Tree' felt scary. Were you trying to pull out not only deep love within human beings but also its counterpart, fear? GHS: Yes. Most of my story mixes together life and death. I like to put in something about death in the movie. Scary scenes represented the psyche of the lead character. When she finds the secret room, her fear and anxiety are expressed through what sounded like the sound of the children behind the room, even though there is no such thing... Also, NSM's role is a character who suspects and fears no one. But, once she meets JSW and RDH characters... A part of her that she never knew emerges--the part that feels fearful and suspicious. Unknowingly, she experiences confusion when the face is revealed. I wanted to insert the reversal/opposite/ of her psyche/mind. I think that we are all like that. (I guess this is the part that GHS wanted to show in the movie that we are not simple but complex and that we are not one-dimensional but multi-faceted---as she captures the scenes of the masqurade and masks and all the lead characters in the movie and that we are not always what we appear...???.) Q: When the twin's father asks NSM to help his son, NSM tells him that everybody has some type of handicap. What did you mean by that? GHS: I feel that 'fate' does not seem all that important the longer we live. It is inevitable that as we age, we will get wrinkles and we will start to lose health. We all develop and mature as we experience overwhelming traumas and pain. That is what I meant. For me, I feel that my trauma is little better now that I see it. Sometimes, I feel like it is better to have one than not to have one. It changes. Q: I feel that 'Peach Tree' movie is kind of a catalyst that breaks down prejudice and bias. Have you ever experienced such prejudice? GHS: I guess one can look at it as prejudice. But, it could also be that one is not used to it. When you try a new food, at first it may seem strange at first. But, once you get used to it, it does not feel strange at all. I feel that it is the same with people. If a person first appears with clothes that make no sense to you, you may think him strange. But when you see him regularly, it becomes ok. So, in a way, it could just be a problem of the time. 'Peach Tree' movie may also feel so strange in the first 10 min. and one may have some prejudice, but one is so used to it by the time it ends. I feel that way. I feel that thoughts change and adapt in such a way.
Q: You talk a lot about pets through your tweeter. Did you like pets since young age? GHS: Now, I have 8 dogs and one cat. Actually I did not really know about pets when I was young. But as I raise them, I started to feel such a deep sense of responsibility. I may not cook for myself out of laziness. But I have to make their food with my hands. I have to move because of them. I can sleep all day. But I must move my heavy body to make sure they eat and I also end up eating too. I feel so responsible that they become the reason for my waking up and moving about. There are lot of annoying things too, but the joy that they give me is way bigger. They are just so good. I call my dogs fools. Even if they get scolded, they still follow you with excitement. I see that and think to myself they must be happy that they are fools. You may think me strange for saying this, but, sometimes, I would think I would like to be a dog too. (laughter) Q: You mentioned that you made Peach Tree after having pondered over issues like Who am I, Why do I live. After having made the movie, did you find your answers? GHS: (laughter) I often think that I am not anything. It may sound ambiguous, but I feel that I live because of them and because of my family.
Following are from GHS's tweets as reported by this reporter: 매일의 숙제를 하는 자신의 삶은 타인의 삶과 비교할 수 없는 특별한 가치가 있지요.=A life that does its daily homework has its special value which cannot be compared to another. 저는 행복하기 위해 노력합니다. 두려움으로 매일을 죽느니 매일의 행복함으로 단 한번 죽겠다는 신념으로요. I try so that I can be happy. I have a faith that, rather than dying everyday with fear, I will live with happiness everyday until I die once. 모든 사물의 대한 본질은 스스로가 만드는 것이라고 생각합니다. 자신에 대한 믿음 또한 =I think that the essence of each human being is self-made. Just as the faith and belief in oneself is self-made. – 구혜선(@koohs)의 트위터에서. p.s. There will be BTS story behind this interview Story 2. The youthful GHS-ssi who always challenges herself speaks to the younger generation. And, plus, the pretty wall paper containing GHS-ssi. ^_^ http://maummonthly.blog.me/40172930064
