Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho is determined to win the Premier League this season, and says he and the rest of the squad will fight like lions to make their dreams a reality. The Blues play their game in hand against Tottenham at White Hart Lane this evening.
While a defeat would severely damage their title credentials, a win would put the Blues level on points with Arsenal and within striking distance of leaders Manchester United.
Massive Week
In what is a make-or-break week for Chelsea, they then play host to the Gunners on Sunday afternoon while United welcome Liverpool.
"These two derbies are decisive for us," commented Carvalho on the two matches against north London sides in the space of four days. "If we get the six points then we will put pressure on Manchester United in the race for the title. We cannot afford to fail now," stressed the Portuguese international. "We know that the Tottenham and Arsenal games are so important because it will put us back in touch with the leaders."
Spurs Revenge
And after losing out to Spurs at Wembley earlier this year, Carvalho is determined to exact some revenge and ensure Chelsea prove their class in the big competitions. "We suffered a big blow when we lost to Tottenham in the Carling Cup final and, of course, we want to make up for that and show people what we are capable of," he said. "It was the same in the FA Cup (against Barnsley). Some people lost belief in us and that did affect our confidence, of course.
"But if we win these two games then we will be back in the title race - believing we can win it. Even though we have suffered badly in the two cup competitions, we have come back strongly and fought like lions in every match since. We are as dangerous and as strong as ever, and determined to win a trophy this season. We know for a club like Chelsea it would be seen as a failure not to win a major title."
