Johnny's Jimusho once again dominated the music sales charts this past week as expected, with Arashi's "Boku no Miteiru Fuukei" achieving the #1 album and SMAP's "This is love" achieving the #1 single.
"Boku no Miteiru Fuukei" sold 731,000 copies, becoming the group's 8th consecutive number-one album and setting their personal record for best first-week sales of an original album. (It fell slightly short of the 753,000 copies sold by their best album last year.) In addition, "Boku no Miteiru Fuukei" is already the best-selling album so far this year.
The other new albums in the top ten were from RIP SLYME (#2), Tamio Okuda (#4), Shonannokaze (#5), and cosMo feat. Miku Hatsune (#6).
SMAP's 45th single, "This is love," sold 276,000 copies. This is their first one to break the quarter-million mark in the first week since their 2003 hit "Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana," which eventually sold more than 2 million copies. "This is love" also ties them again with B'z for the record of most consecutive years with a Top 10 single (20) and gives them the record for most consecutive Top 10 singles for a group (45).
Meanwhile, the new "K-On!!" theme songs took the #2 and #3 spots. Ikimono Gakari's latest single was #4, followed in order by new releases from Kana Nishino, No Sleeves, Idoling!!!, and FUNKY MONKEY BABYS. Shinsengumi Lien also made the top ten in the final spot (#10).
Playing a man who restarts his life by working in construction is Kazunari Ninomiya’s (27) character in his new drama “フリーター、家を買う (Freeter, Ie wo Kau)” starting in October, it was announced yesterday, reports Sankei Sports.
The story starts with Seiji Take (Kazunari), a man whose life is at rock bottom. He had quit his job after three months, has lost his dreams, money, and doesn’t get along with his family. But after he finds out his mother is suffering from depression, he gets a part time job at a construction site and sets his heart on “buying a house for my family, even if I’m just a freelancer”.
Despite having to prepare for Arashi’s national stadium concerts and promoting his upcoming movies “大奥 (Ohoku)” and “GANTZ”, the singer said he is up for the challenge.
“I’m working with an amazing team and cast. I hope I can send a message out to people about what can go through your mind at work, the changes that happen, and how a family can be rebuilt,” he said.
It has been two years since Nino has had a leading role in a drama series. The last being in October 2008 with “流星の絆 (Ryusei no Kizuna)”.
The leading lady role will be played by Karina (26). Her character, Manami Chiba, meets Seiji at the construction site where she is the on-location director. Although she is the same age as Seiji, Manami has lived a completely different life to him, graduating from a top university and landing a job at a major company. The two characters show no affection for one another at the beginning, but as time goes by, Seiji can’t help but be affected by the way Manami lives her life.
Filming for “フリーター、家を買う (Freeter, Ie wo Kau)” will begin at the end of August.
TOKIO News: TOKIO to invade Japanese TV.. Nagase plays with on-screen daughter
Starting this morning, TOKIO will be the first 24hr TV main personalities to promote the show on 24 different TV shows, it was announced yesterday reports Sports Hochi.
Past 24hr TV personalities have promoted the show on only 10 to 15 different news shows and variety shows.
As main personalities for this year’s “24時間テレビ33「愛は地球を救う」(24Hr TV 33 ‘Love Saves the Earth’)”, TOKIO have called their 24 show challenge the “TOKIO x 24 Project”.
Starting with this morning’s “Zoom In!! Saturday” (August 14), group members will appear on popular shows like “嵐にしやがれ (Arashi ni Shiyagare)” (August 21) and “AKBINGO!” (August 25) until 24hr TV starts on August 28.
TOKIO member Taichi Kokubun (35) hopes their efforts will brush onto others watching TV.
“There’s one week before the show, and we the thirties group will wake up early and work a good sweat even on live television. I hope you can work hard with us (TOKIO),” he said.
Child actor Manatsu Kimura talked about what her on-screen mum (Ryoko Hirosue) and dad (Tomoya Nagase) were like at a preview event on August 9, reports Oricon.
“みぽりんのえくぼ (Miporin no Ekubo)” is the “24時間テレビ33「愛は地球を救う」(24Hr TV 33 ‘Love Saves the Earth’)” drama special, which stars main personality TOKIO member Tomoya Nagase (31).
Nagase plays a father to a 13-year-old girl who dies from a brain tumor, played by Kimura.
The child actor talked about how her on-screen parents helped her calm her nerves down between scenes.
“(Nagase and Hirosue) would play mobile games with me, and we’d play quiz games together.
“My crying scenes were hard. But I was able to relax after Hirosue-san, who plays my mum, spent the whole time chatting with me,” she said.
“みぽりんのえくぼ (Miporin no Ekubo)” is based on a true story. Back in June 2004, 13-year-old Miho Okada had died from a brain tumour and left behind 359 hand-drawn pictures showing how amazing it is to be able to live every day and look forward.
