KaJin (leader of Tiger tribe) has the power as she controls fire.However, she is also rather cruel and ambitious(?) as she seems to bekilling everyone. Seo O is the leader of the Bear tribe. She cares forher people and leads her tribe to fight against Ka Jin.
HwanWoong descended form heaven with 3 gods- White Tiger, Black Turtle andBlue Dragon. He observed both Seo O and Ka Jin and at one point, HwanWoong even healed Ka Jin when she was hurt in a fight. I guess that'swhen she fell in love with him. However, she continued on with therampage. To stop her, Hwan Woong took back her power of fire and gaveit to Seo O. It seems somewhere along the way, both Hwan Woong and SeoO fell in love with each other. Seo O also became the 4th god, the RedPhoenix.
Ka Jin was very angry and jealous. She had lost herpower and Seo O was pregnant with Hwan Woong's child. She attacked SeoO's village and took the new born child. Seo O pleaded with her toreturn her child but Ka Jin wanted the power of fire in return.However, Seo O could not bear to do so as it was a gift to her fromHwan Woong (I think it sort of represent his heart/ feelings?). In afit of anger, Ka Jin threw the child off the cliff.
Seo O wasdevastated and in her anger, she became the black phoenix. If the RedPhoenix becomes the Black Phoenix, she will bring about destruction.Fire raged upon earth. The 3 gods summoned by Hwan Woong to stop hercould not do so (the fight scene here was fantastic). Only Hwan Woongcould do so as he was the one who gave her the power and made her oneof the 4 gods. So Hwan Woong had to kill her. He was heart broken. Hehad come down to earth to bring peace. Instead he had to kill the womanhe loved and the world was destroyed. (It rained for 7 days before thefire started by the black phoenix subsided. thanks cydevil!).
HwanWoong sealed the objects that belong to the 4 gods and they weredispersed upon earth. One day, the true king will come down to earthagain to unite all. And they will have to wait for that day.
Andthe child of Hwan Woong and Seo O became Tan Gun, the first king ofKorea. (Hwan Woong had saved the child after he was thrown off thecliff by Ka Jin) |

The Four Gods, one of fantasy elements in the 'TWSSG', point to BlackTurtle, Blue Dragon, White Tiger, and Scarlet Phoenix, who arereincarnations of Woosa, Woonsa, & Poongbaek, who decended from skyalong with Hwanwoong, and Saeo who was bestowed power of fire fromHwanwoong, respectively.

'Taewangsasingi' makes Korea ratings history

SEOUL-- The most expensive television program in Korean history got off to asolid start Tuesday night as "Taewangsasingi" grabbed a 20.4% share ofthe audience here, but producers are still waiting to decide if theambitious series will grow into a genuine hit.
"It's a good start, but we'll have to see how the ratings continue," said John Kim, CEO of series co-producer SSD.
Ata cost of $43 million for 24 episodes, "Taewangsasingi" features aspectacular and effects-heavy take on Korea's founding mythology. Bycomparison, most TV dramas in Korea cost less than $200,000 perepisode.
"Taewangsasingi" has been pre-sold in 14 Asian territories, and Kim said he is in talks for as many as 70 more countries.
Byfar the most important territory for the series' success is Japan,where state broadcaster NHK is expected to begin airing"Taewangsasingi" in December. Kim said that a theatrical run there alsois a possibility depending on demand.
The series stars BaeYong-joon, who became one of Korea's biggest international starsfollowing the success of the melodrama "Winter Sonata" in 2003. WhenBae signed on to "Taewangsasingi," the show's budget soared from $11million to $33 million, largely based on Bae's appeal in Japan. Costsswelled to $43 million thanks to production problems and thecomplicated effects.
