The year was 1987...
Kamen Rider Black (KRB for short) tells the story of Minami Kotaro (Robert in the dub) and his battles against the evil cult Golgom. Now, Kamen Rider origins typically are "motorcycle riding good guy is cyborgized into a bug-faced hero who turns against the bad guys" or the like. KRB offers an interesting twist to the origin. The beginning of the series shows us a dazed Kotaro trying to hide from three Golgom priests, who are combing Tokyo for him. Once they find him, they tell him he is no longer human, and that he must go back with them to Golgom. Kotaro refuses to believe them, and the priests must convince him by knocking him through concrete walls and electrocuting him on a neon sign to show that he is indeed now a cyborg. After being knocked around a few buildings, he emerges from a warehouse transformed into cyborg form for the first time. He then fights off the Golgom priests and makes his way back home. There, he receives a letter from his stepfather Professor Akizuki, who meets him in a rural factory and explains the story to him.
Golgom is ruled by a Century King who dies every 5000 years. This era's Century King has three priests, Bishium the female, the green faced Baraom and the wrinkly (whatsisname), who are at work to choose a successor for him. Golgom's human agents, along with archaeologists Professor Akizuki and Professor Minami are helping them. Minami and Akizuki's sons, Kotaro and Nobuhiko were born on the same day of the same year, on the day of a solar eclipse. Thus, they were destined to become pawns in Golgom's evil plot.
Kotaro's parents were killed in a plane crash, and Professor Akizuki adopted him (the dub calls him Robert Akizuki, although he retains his Minami surname in the original Japanese) and raised him as twin brother to Nobuhiko. He becomes close with stepsister Kyoko and Nobuhiko's girlfriend Kazumi. On their 19th birthday, Nobuhiko and Kotaro are kidnapped by Golgom. It turns out that they were to be turned into cyborgs by the Golgom priests, each being implanted with a Kingstone. Nobuhiko was turned into Shadow Moon while Kotaro into Black Sun. Shadow Moon and Black Sun were to battle each other to the death, with the victor gaining both Kingstones. The victor was to succeed the dark lord as the new Century King and lead Golgom to rule the earth. (side comment: at least Golgom has an excuse for not being able to create more riders, or trying the rider process on LOYAL members and thus saving themselves the headache of rebellion) Professor Akizuki objects to Kotaro and Nobuhiko's minds being brainwashed, however, and he tries to release them both, succeeding in releasing Kotaro but injuring Nobuhiko in his "cocoon". Kotaro then finds the sentient motorcycle Battle Hopper and escapes. Kotaro then remembers and is stunned. "Is this why my parents were killed? Because they resisted?" he asks, "How could you do this?" "When Golgom rules only you and Nobuhiko and those like you will remain alive!" Kotaro refuses to accept, and tries to run away, only to note his path blocked by spiderwebs |

Ahhh zaman 80-an. Sapa blh lupa ngan He-Man, Thunder-Cats, Gi-Joe, Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters & ... Transformers. Termasuk Space Sheriff Gayvern (Gaban).
Tapi, bagi aku, Super Dimension Fortress Macross & Genesis Climber Mospeada (kedua2nya dialih bahasa Melayu) merubah segala2nya.
Awal 90an, ketiadaan Macross & Mospeada buat aku penasaran. Tapi terima kasih TV3, setiap jam 9 pagi, hari Sabtu, siri Robotech pula disiarkan. Kali ini, anime berbeza Macross, Southern Cross & Mospeada digabungkan oleh Harmony Gold, diolah jalan ceritanya menjadi satu epik 85-episod animasi Robotech berbahasa Inggeris yg melangkau 3 generasi manusia melawan penaklukan makhluk asing ke Bumi.
Robotech: Macross Saga
Aku hampir menangis apabila watak Roy Fokker, Commander Air Group bagi skuadron Jolly Rogers (skull & crossbones) mati setelah ditembak jatuh kaum alien gergasi, Zentreadi. Aku tersedak apabila seluruh permukaan Bumi menerima penangan pengeboman laser dari 4.8 juta kapal perang Zentraedi yg hampir menyebabkan manusia hampir pupus. Aku kagum dgn semangat manusia yg bangkit utk membangunkan semula permukaan Bumi & memahami dilemma kaum tentera-hamba Zentraedi yg terpaksa mengikut budaya manusia yg asing bg mrk. Malah, aku hiba bila Pegawai Pemerintah SDF-1, Laksamana Henri J Gloval, Lt. Claudia Grant, Ensign Vanessa, Kim & Sammy yg mengorbankan diri mrk melawan Zentraedi buat kali terakhir. Aku gembira akhirnya Rick Hunter bersatu dgn Lisa Hayes.
Robotech: The Masters Saga
Bumi sedang kian pulih. Generasi kedua terpaksa menghadapi ancaman Robotech Masters, makhluk asing yg bertanggungjawab mencipta Zentraedi, & kini dtg sendiri ke Bumi bagi menghabiskan misi yg gagal disempurnakan oleh kaum tentera-hamba hasil ciptaan mereka hampir 2 dekad yg lalu. Lbh canggih, Robotech Master secara langsung mengepung Bumi, & penentangan di angkasaraya & permukaan Bumi menyaksikan pasukan armor merangkap infantri, Kor Alpha Armor Taktikal 15 yg diketuai Lt Dana Sterling melakukan kombat samada serang hendap, peninjauan taktikal ke kapal angkasa musuh. Banyak aksi peperangan di angkasa lepas melibatkan mecha & juga kapal angkasa.
Robotech: New Generation.
Tamat perang Robotech ke 2, selepas menewaskan Robotech Masters tentera Bumi semakin lemah, akhirnya kini Bumi ditakluk makhluk asing, Invid. Lebih dari sedekad berlalu, generasi ketiga manusiawi, yg rata2nya dilahirkan di koloni angkasa lepas seperti Marikh, menghantar armada untuk membebaskan Bumi yg dicengkam penjajahan. Armada yg dihantar dimusnahkan dgn mudah, sehinggakan hanya seorang shj terselamat iaitu Lt. Komander Scott Bernard (tunangnya, Ensign Marlene, mati ketika serangan armada tsb) yg terpaksa mengetuai sekumpulan gerila yg menentang penjajahan Invid. Perjuangan secra gerila membuka mata Scott akan prejudis, tali barut, keadaan anarki, barbarisme yg merupakan kesan langsung penjajahan Invid ke atas tamadun manusia. |

model VR-52 F milik scott bernard..VR-52T rand...best giler mase tgk diorg bertukar jd armor mode... |

Ada lagi versi terkini, tetapi setau aku, Cyclone (Mospeada) ni ada VR-038 Bartley (versi Rook), VR-041 Blowsuperior (versi Lancer) & siri VR-052 Battler (versi Scott & Rand).
Berdasarkan console game Robotech Invasion yg dikeluarkan 2 tahun lepas kat US, ada dua unit tambahan, iaitu VR-055 Devastator (Heavy Infantry) & VR-064S Shadow Dancer (ada teknologi Shadow Stealth - khusus utk Spec For).
Tapi sebenarnya berdasarkan RT: The Untold Story (The Movie) - susah sgt nak cari skrg ni - ada 2 buah Cyclone yg lbh canggih digunakan waktu generasi kedua sblm penaklukan Robotech Masters, iaitu Garland & Hargun. |
