TAIPEI: Taiwan superstar Jerry Yan responded for the first time torecent rumours he was born out of wedlock during a charity event onSunday, said Taiwan media reports.
Expressing support for his mother, the 33-year-old said, "I don'treally know [if the rumours are true], and I don't want to know. Mymother worked very hard to bring me up.
"She is my role model. I will support her no matter what and I hope I can make her even more proud of me when I grow older."
The "Meteor Garden" star said he is actively preventing his mother from reading about the rumours to stop her from getting hurt.
Recounting his own poverty-stricken childhood, Yan also revealed thathe had once been approached to be a gigolo when he was still in highschool.
The former member of Taiwanese boyband F4 admitted that the lure offast, easy money was hard to resist, as his friends who had acceptedwere all driving expensive cars, while he worked part-time without anyholidays, just to make ends meet.
"In those days, I worked hard till 11pm every day. The temptation wasgreat, but I remembered what my mother had taught me. A man can be poorbut cannot give up his integrity. Whatever you do, you must be able toanswer to yourself and to the people around you, so I replied that Iwas not interested," he said.

Taiwan heartthrob Jerry Yan has responded for the first time to recentrumors that he was born out of wedlock, Channel News Asia reports.
"I don't really know [if the rumors are true], and I don't want toknow," the "Meteor Garden" actor told reporters while attending acharity event on Sunday.
Yan called his mother his role model. "My mother worked very hard to bring me up... I will support her no matter what."
The 33-year-old recounted his poverty-dominated childhood, and admittedhe was once approached to be a gigolo when he was still in high school.
"If I really became a gigolo, my mother would kill me," Yan quipped.
Yan gained instant fame after starring in the 2001 TV drama "MeteorGarden", which was extremely popular throughout Asia. He is also amodel and singer.
