Kwon Sang Woo releases official statement on hit and run accident

The acting industry of Korea has literally been on fire in the past several hours after the big news of actor Kwon Sang Woo committing a hit-and-run became public. The story has left many fans and netizens in astonishment and dismay, especially with the actor’s career at stake.

Kwon Sang Woo has been explaining the situation as being a mere accident caused by his fear and unskillful driving, and to clear up the confusion, the actor’s company released its official statement to the media.

“Actor Kwon Sang Woo was driving on an alley behind a wedding hall when his vehicle slipped due to the road being wet from rain. He bumped into a parked vehicle, and while he was backing up to take care of the situation he accidently bumped into a police vehicle which was returning to the station after a patrol.

He panicked and attempted to park the car at the wedding hall’s parking lot, but crashed into a flower bed. He panicked and drove off from the scene. A representative from the company visited the scene shortly after, admitted that Kwon caused the accident and Kwon received police investigation.

The details have been sent to prosecuter’s office for further investigation and Kwon is deeply regretting the fact that he caused the accidents and escaped from the scene.”

Although the story tells that Kwon Sang Woo’s reckless actions were not intentional, many netizens are refusing to buy it. The male star actually has quite a record of “lying” to the press, including how he’s once promised that his wife was not premaritally pregnant (but turned out she was).

Actor Likely to Receive Fine for Car Accident


Popular actor Kwon Sang Woo had gotten into a bit of trouble lately – he was indicted on charges of hitting objects and cars two weeks ago. He had collided into a parked car when police discovered him driving on the wrong side of the road two weeks ago. Originally, it had been reported as a hit and run, but there were no casualties. There was also some exaggeration in the reports.

His fate had been unknown for the past two weeks, but the actor can now rest easy – he will only receive a fine. According to an official with a police station in Seoul who spoke with Asia Economic Daily, the case will come to a close “with Kwon just receiving a fine”. His agency stresses that the actor is deeply regretting his mistake due to poor driving and his leaving the scene.”

Kwon Sang Woo currently stars in the film, “71 – Into the Fire”, a film about 71 student soldiers who fought in the Korean War.

Actor Kwon Sangwoo, who worked with Big Bang’s TOP in the filming of 71: Into the Fire, was recently in a car accident.

While driving on the wrong side of the road on June 12, he hit a parked car, ran into a police car that was attempting to pursue him, and kept driving until he hit a tree. After that, he ran away on foot and apparently made a clean getaway until he turned himself in to the Gangnam Police Station two days later.

Once the incident was publicized, netizens became riled up in their anger and did not bother to listen even when Kwon Sangwoo attempted to deliver a public apology. Instead, they continued to express their feelings of outrage by attacking the Cyworld page of Kwon’s wife, actress Son Taeyoung. Son Taeyoung responded by shutting down the page, which stopped the attacks and silenced netizens for quite a while.

Unfortunately, netizens became angry and attempted to harass the married couple once again after seeing that Son Taeyoung chose to make a public appearance at a fashion show while news about Kwon Sangwoo’s act of crime was still the talk of the country.

Hopefully, the anger will die down soon to allow legal authorities take control of the situation instead.

Kwon Sang Woo Attends "Pain" Stage Greeting Event Despite Injury

Despite his ankle injury, Kwon Sang Woo appeared at the stage greeting event for his movie, "Pain," keeping the promise he had made with the fans.

It was his first official appearance after his ankle surgery. While he was advised not to attend the event, Kwon Sang Woo wanted to keep the promise he had made with his fans.

After viewing the movie, the audience was seen tearing up, touched by the film's heartbreaking love story. Shortly after the movie ended, the lights came on and Kwon Sang Woo made his appearance. The audience at first screamed and cheered at the unexpected appearance, but after seeing the cast on his leg, gave him a standing ovation.

“Thank you for still watching ‘Pain’ even after it’s been released for 3 weeks,” Kwon Sang Woo said.

Ma Dong Suk added, “Sang Woo was injured more seriously than we thought, but he said that he wanted to come. I hope he gets better as soon as possible and as much as you guys love ‘Pain,’ I hope for the best that it will become more popular.”
Kwon Sang Woo first tore his ankle ligaments while filming the movie "Into the Fire" last year, and reaggravated the same injury last February at the set of "Pain."
