X-Plane is an interesting topic 
but first of all... u xbleh compare X-Plane platform dgn MSFS (FS9 & FSX) as they are atypical entities... xsama mcm u compare Boeing dgn airbus!
in general... kalu u rase flight dynamic is ur criteria, then go with X-Plane, tp kalu u rasa eye-candy yg memukau ur visions, well... then go for MSFS, that's the basic... yet the system spec for both is a difference story, let me emphasis these in detail..
Flight Dynamic
MSFS has its place as eye candy n of course u get some interesting systems modeling for avionics training... keep in mind that Microsoft designed MSFS as a GAME, n not as a simulated wind tunnel for aircraft design, it was never a design goal for them to capture every element of flight, rather, their approach appears to have been to use a method that gets things 70% right 70% of the time!
For most FS2004 users, that's close enough for them to get enjoyment of this product, but for someone who wants to fly in real life, this approach makes u lose a lot of learning opportunities n i think it creates a lot of misleading deceptions about how real airplanes behave.  
i doubt Microsoft have improve on this situation in FSX, as they are going for the mass market, but the mass market doesn't want to learn to fly real airplanes expertly... the mass market wants a fantasy fulfillment, and creating a deception that they can fly in any circumstance n still live to tell about it is probably part of the fantasy.
on the other hand... X-Plane is able to deduce real characteristics of flight on any airframe, even a hypothetical airframe... u can do interesting experiments with X-Plane, such as sheer off part of one wing, n what u are left with flies like the real airplane would fly in that case, it's a really fine simulator recognized by the FAA for training... even some teams at Boeing n other military contractors use X-Plane to do early validation testing at subsonic speeds on new airframes... that alone is such outstanding praise for the product that not much more needs to be said about the accuracy of its modeling.
am no doubt, the best simulator found for flight dynamics is X-Plane their approach is to build a virtual wind tunnel, they calculate force vectors all over the surface of the aircraft n use those to model the flight... maybe that gets u to 90% right nearly 95% of the time... it's not perfect but it's a big step up, supposedly Boeing did early flight testing on models of their future blended wing aircraft using X-Plane. The winners of the recent X-Prize race to space used an X-Plane model to train pilots on how to fly that aircraft...
if u are not familiar with this product (X-Plane)... the designer is an aeronautics engineer who astutely saw a way to calculate about 200 force vectors on any airframe in real time n use that to simulate the actual behavior of the airplane given any airflow over it, so if flight dynamics are the most important criteria for u, like I said then u have to go with X-Plane unlike FS9 (MS2004) which is based on a table based approach that is only as good as the data in the table 
Graphics
what u lose with X-Plane is unfortunately a lot  ... most significantly is visual, it's about up to par in terrain n landclass with the older FS2000... the 3D cockpits are not good the 2D cockpits are not great either ...the airplane selection is poor and there is no commercial market for third party aircraft... It's very hard to give up the eye candy which still isn't great most of the time in FS2004, but at least it gets close to stimulating a lot of the time.
i split my time between FS2004, FSX and X-Plane.. am not real happy with any of them, frankly... each is brilliant in narrow ways, none is well balanced across all of the things u might want from a sim… i tried the demo of X-Plane on my PC n had issues with the graphics card (which was a mainstream NVidia)... there's a lot i liked but too much i didn't like...this included the fact that X-plane isn't mainstream n the sim keeps changing...
so there we are... hope these have given u some inputs, such is life n nothing is perfect
