United's £25million bid for Modric
Manchester United are readying a £25million bid for Tottenham Hotspur's Croatian midfielder Luka Modric.
The Sun reported that the Red Devils have set their sights on the stylish playmaker who has had an outstanding season for Spurs.
Sir Alex Ferguson apparently sees Modric as a young version of Paul Scholes and wants to use him as the focal point of United's attack next season.
Fergie dropped a big hint before United's game last weekend against Spurs when he mentioned in his pre-match programme notes that he sees Modric as the danger-man for the visitors.
He said: "And I give you another wee man who'll be at Old Trafford this afternoon: Luka Modric, who is playing out of his skin at the moment."
Modric joined the Lilywhites back in 2008 from Dinamo Zagreb for £16.5m but his introduction to English football was not as smooth as expected with then Spurs coach Juande Ramos fielding him as a holding midfielder.
He was also constantly troubled by various injuries and it got worse for him when he suffered a broken leg last August which ruled him out for three months.
When he finally made his return to first-team football in December, he seemed to have found a second wind and has been a key factor in Tottenham's push for a Champions League spot.
If a bid for Modric does come true, Michael Carrick might be thrown into the equation to tempt Harry Redknapp who is a known admirer of the England midfielder since his West Ham days.

Rooney a hit with the Writers
Wayne Rooney has claimed his second major award this season when he was named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association.
Rooney, who bagged 34 goals for Manchester United is all competitions this season, won the award with 80 percent of the votes cast in his favour by members of the FWA.
Chelsea hitman Didier Drogba was the first runner-up in the voting with Manchester City's Carlos Tevez rounding out the top three.
"I am delighted to win an award with so much history and tradition and to follow a long line of wonderful players who have been honoured by the FWA since 1948 gives me real pride," Rooney said.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank my manager at United Sir Alex Ferguson, the coaching staff and my team mates without whose help and support this award would not have been possible."
Rooney, who was awarded the PFA Player of the Year on Sunday and also the Premier League's fans Player of the Season, has successfully aided United in filling the void left by the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, though he suffered an injury towards the end of the season.
The England striker is doubtful to play in United's final two Premier League matches as they try to overtake Chelsea at the summit of the league table because of a groin strain having recovered ahead of schedule from an ankle injury.
"Wayne is a worthy winner of our prestigious award and the margin of his victory is testimony to the marvellous season he has had for club and country," FWA chairman Steve Bates said on announcing the award.
"His tally of 34 goals so far this season is certain to have captured the attention of our members but I am sure the overall improvement in his game at Manchester United has been of equal significance.
"Wayne's enthusiasm, hunger and desire mark him out as a special player and we hope he can carry his club form on to the international stage in the World Cup this summer and help England achieve their dream."
Rooney will be presented with his trophy in London on May 13
