Former Italy coach Marcello Lippi has defended Cristiano Ronaldo's style of play after the Manchester United winger was accused of using his skills to mock opponents.
Roma's Chilean midfielder David Pizarro said the Portuguese should show more respect for his opponents and "leave out some of the fancy tricks" after United's 2-0 win over the Italian side in Tuesday's Champions League first leg.
"I must admit that I didn't like him much initially," Lippi, Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning coach, told Sky television.
"All these dummies and double-dummies irritated me, his way of playing with the ball, I had the impression, which turned out to be wrong, that he had a way of creating unpleasantness.
"But then I realised it is his way of playing. There is no disrespect to anyone, it is his way of presenting himself." |

Vidic return date set at 'two-three weeks'
Manchester United are breathing a sigh of relief after defender NemanjaVidic was ruled out for only two or three weeks with a knee injury.
The Serbian hardman sustained the injury during Tuesday's ChampionsLeague 2-0 defeat of Roma and it had been feared that he would not kicka ball for the rest of the season.
Reports suggested the swelling on his knee had been too great to beable to carry out a proper scan but the a club spokesman told theclub's official website that 'There is no major damage to left knee,and he will be out for 2-3 weeks.'Vidic will miss the domestic league matches against Middlesbrough and Arsenal and the return leg with Roma.
He is expected to return to face Blackburn on 19th April and be ready for the Champions League semi-final and the crucial visit toStamford Bridge on April 26
