[FA]120923 An encounter with Ku Hye Sun (by @mh_jajay)
meow said: First, I would like to thank Jajay for sharing her invaluable experience with us. When I read through that, it feels like my own experience: I was nervous when she couldn’t find Manolin, I was smiling when she met Bhap & Pposong, my eyes filled with tears when she finally met HyeSun in person! I know all of you would feel the same as me, enjoy reading~ ;)
———————-
It is already 240 in the morning and I’m supposed to get up at 7 tomorrow to go to work. Yep. After a whirlwind trip to Seoul where dreams really came true, it’s now time for me to go back to reality. But before I go to sleep, I want to write this memoir when it’s still fresh in my mind, not only for sharing with friends who love HS, but also for my own keepsake because it’s simply one of the most amazing experiences in my life.
I went to Seoul last weekend because I successfully achieved a major goal in my career, and this visit is something I had promised myself as a reward. In the past few months, I was working hard and had a lot of down times, but whenever I thought of the possibility of seeing HS’s art in real life (I am an art lover to begin with), it summoned up my energy to charge forward. Last Friday, when the battle was finally over I couldn’t contain my joy because what I’ve always imagined would finally turn into reality!
Now let’s fast forward to Sunday, the day which I designated as my “Goo Hye Sun day” XD as I planned to visit café Manolin and the art gallery as the perfect finale to my weekend getaway. Unfortunately, it didn’t start well. Since I can’t speak Korean, taking public transport is a major problem for me. When I hopped into the cab and showed the ajusshi the address of Manolin (written in Korean), he nodded and started to head towards Sorae village. Everything was fine until he dropped me somewhere where Manolin was nowhere in sight -_-; Apparently he doesn’t know where Manolin is (even with the exact address) and looked so perplexed to the point where I felt bad for hopping into his car in the first place. So I hopped off and started wandering around the neighborhood in hopes of seeing it. I had no luck, and all the walking uphill and down was making me all sweaty. Finally I gave up and tried to get on another cab. Bad luck. Two drivers read the address and said “Mu-la” and drove away. My saviour finally came when I hailed the third taxi, a young man who actually knows where Manolin is!
When I saw the café before my eyes, it was a funny feeling. Having seen it in photos so many times, to have the real thing right in front of you is amazing. While I was busy taking pictures, suddenly I realized something: Where’s the entrance?! Well apparently that question popped into my mind because the white iron gate (which was the main entrance) was closed, so I thought maybe they would have a side/back entrance. Hell no. I walked around the block and there was nada. I started to worry and grabbed a lady who lives next to Manolin to ask her if Manolin is closed on Sundays, which she replied ‘Yes’. I swear I almost had a brim of tears in my eyes when I heard that. Sadly I walked away and wander the streets of Sorae village to look for a place for lunch although I really wasn’t in the mood to eat. Suddenly, I decided to go back and give it another try because I can’t give up so easily. And thank God I went back! When I saw a guy sweeping in front of the gate, I hurried to the white gate to find it open! At this moment, my heart was screaming of joy!
Café Manolin is actually smaller than what I imagined it to be. Photos are illusional afterall XD Nevertheless, the atmosphere and setting is exactly what I expected: nice, cosy, personal décor with easy listening music in the background. When I entered, the stereo was playing HS’s “Brown Hair”. At that instant, I felt that this place is all about Ku Hye Sun. The café embodies her image, her personality and her dreams. Even though I couldn’t see her there, I almost felt her presence. Since it just opened, I was the first customer there and so I was free to explore the café without disturbance. I picked a comfortable indoor table and ordered a hearty American breakfast with an iced mocha. The food was nicely presented and tasted quite good, but the relaxing mood of the café made it even better.
As I continued my exploration, I noticed something moving behind the cashier counter. It’s Bhap! He is simply adorable and was a very friendly dog ^^ Whenever I called his name, he would come out to greet me haha, just like a host at the café!
Just as I thought my encounter with Bhap was good enough for my first visit to Manolin, another surprise came in. When I was about to leave the café, I saw a family walking up from the entrance and getting seated in the terrace. The little girl looked familiar but I couldn’t make it out as I was sitting quite far away. Nonetheless, I decided to go up to their table for a better view. And it was indeed So Won! When her mother saw me, I asked “Are you Pposong?” (actually I was asking the kid forgetting that she can’t speak English haha) to which her mom quickly replied “Yes!” My heart was overjoyed and I said “ Pposong ah, I’m your big fan! You did so well in Please Captain! Why are you so cute?!” to which Pposong of course couldn’t respond as she had no clue to what I was saying, but her mother was kind enough to translate the message to her. I quickly took my camera out and asked for a picture. When I held her in my arm, her body was so tiny and she was so innocent that it reminded me despite of her excellent acting in the drama, she is really just a young child. I’m so glad she has such a good relationship with HyeSun and I hope she will healthily grow into a great actress like her eonnie someday. When I left and said goodbye, So Won was distracted by her dad so her mom called to SoWon to say goodbye to me haha! When SoWon smiled and waved her goodbye to me, it was sweetness overload! ^^
My next destination is Hangaram Arts Centre as I made plans to meet up with Sujin and Bambi at the exhibition at 4pm. Again I hailed a cab with a driver who doesn’t know where the Seoul Arts Centre is -___-; but this time I didn’t give up on him and with the help of the telephone number he finally got me there. After snapping a few photos of the exterior of the building, I went straight to Gallery 7 in the basement where HS’s exhibition is held. It was a very nice exhibit and the audience traffic was quite busy.
After much texting, I finally met up with my Korean friends Sujin and Bambi and it was very cool to meet them as they are very nice and easy-going people. We entered the exhibit and I quickly went up the counter and bought a stack of HS’s exhibition booklet. The girls at the counter looked to me a bit startled. Maybe they thought I’m weird lol. As I couldn’t care less, a middle aged man came up and started speaking to me in English. He is actually the manager of the exhibit and I guess he chatted me up because he found me peculiar as a foreign language speaking visitor! Anyway, I started to inquire about buying HS’s art because although I’m no millionaire, I would still love to support HS for her good cause by buying a piece of her art (a small one as I don’t have a big house for a big one lol). The manager smiled and said “well the pricing is from case to case” and expressed that they are seriously thinking of bringing the exhibit to Hong Kong after learning about my country of origin(which I doubt but oh well). Sujin then went on to ask him if HS is here now, and Mr Manager said HS would actually come at 5 pm. Bunch of us, needless to say, was totally excited! We went for some afternoon tea at a museum restaurant and returned to the gallery when the time came. Sujin saw HS’s manager first, and when their eyes meet he came to us directly! Apparently, according to manager-sshi, HS had already arrived in the gallery but was in the backroom with her family so she probably would be too busy and couldn’t meet fans. Sujin quickly pointed out that I was a fan who came overseas to see her exhibit and that I really wanted to meet her (bugoshipeo – I can understand that hehe). Manager-sshi said he couldn’t guarantee but would try to ask HS, so we walked around the exhibit to appreciate HS’s art some more XD At this time, the exhibit manager ajusshi came up to me again and asked me what he could help me with (and I really wonder why he’s giving me all this attention lol), to which I directly replied “ I want HS to sign all my booklets XD”. He said “ok” and after a while, the backroom door flung open and the two manager-sshis escorted us in!!
The moment I stepped into the backroom, an amazing sight came before me. Dressed in a simple but elegant brown dress with ponytailed hair, a screamingly beautiful lady with fluorescent white skin and piercing big brown eyes stood in front of me with a perfect smile. This lady was looking at me with a big warm smile but I couldn’t quite figure out who she was because my mind immediately went blank the moment our eyes met. Yes. Ku Hye Sun is THAT beautiful. The night before this, I have actually thought of what I would say to her if I did get a chance to meet her, and I thought I would be so shy and nervous that I won’t be able to say a word. Then I would laugh at myself for my silly imaginations. However, at that moment, when a dream became reality, although I was excited and amazed beyond words inside, I managed to keep my cool and went up to shake her hands to offer my congratulations to her. She returned my handshake with a tight grip, her hand so small, thin and warm. “KuHyeSun sshi, I am such a big fan of yours! Congratulations on your exhibition! You are an amazing artist and the artworks are wonderful!” After blurting all this out in English with her looking at me with her big wide smile, I realized that I’m really the only one speaking English here in the room and probably no one else caught what I said so I weakly added “Can you speak English?” HyeSun, keeping her smile, replied with her cute English voice “A little…” Hahaha! So I went on to tell her that I’m her fan from Hong Kong, that she has fans in HK who love her (aka Janet keke) and also in China. When I mentioned her Asia fanbase, she seems to be in disbelief and was laughing with her hand covering her mouth LOL! She’s really adorable beyond words. Then I continued on to ask her to make more movies, and that if she would proceed to make the vampire movie she once wanted to make. When Hye Sun heard that, she couldn’t understand the word Vampire and she looked at me in confusion, so I repeated my question and her manager answered for her “oh maybe later!” XD Mr. Manager sshi is a really wonderful guy by the way. He saw me with my stack of books and asked me if I want them signed. “Yes!” “ All of them?” “ If that’s ok!” Hye Sun then quickly asked for a signing pen and went on to sign all my books! She is such a pleasure to the eyes and although I couldn’t communicate well with her, just seeing her quietly signing, happily obliging to requests of her fans make me love her even more! After the signing, I went on to do the craziest thing… I went up to her and said “Hye Sun, please say hi to Minho for me!” LOL!!!! Hearing this, Sujin and Bambi bursted into laughter and later the girls told me that I was “brave” to do that -_-;. But at that moment I thought that this was probably a once in a lifetime chance, and if I don’t say what I want to say, I may never get to say it! And I travelled so darn far to see her so I don’t care what others think! XD Perhaps I was speaking too quickly, Hye Sun looked confused and said “say hi to me…?” I giggled, held her arm and said “No. I said please say hi to Minho… LEE MINHO (I said this loud in Korean). I’m a big fan of you and Minho!I love you guys!” The moment HS heard me say Lee Minho, she turned away and burst into the biggest laughter with her hands on her mouth (AGAIN!) and I swear she was genuinely surprised by my blunt mentioning of Minho but her laughter was so bright and happy that at that moment, I knew that what I have always believed in them is real =) Not to mention, I saw that one and only gold ring sitting nicely on her middle finger and the feeling of seeing that ring with your own eyes is simply indescribable!
Our rendevous ended with a photo session. Here Hyesun is very professional. The moment when the camera was ready, I felt Hyesun shifting her body beside me to the perfect photo shoot angle LOL! Meanwhile, I stood there, nervous and stiff, but still managed to smile =P! She is really petite and only matched my height even with her high heels (I wore flats). As Minho said, he needs a girl whom he can easily hug into his arms and I’d say HyeSun meets this description perfectly! XD
What impressed me the most about HS is not only her beauty, her charms and her talent, but also her manners. As a Hallyu star, she could’ve easily rejected my request or hastily shoo me away after signing my books. But she didn’t. In fact, she was standing behind the door ready to greet me before I entered the room, and when I left she was also standing there to see me away. Her genuinely nice attitude and her perfect mannerism left a really deep impression in my mind. From now on, I could only go on to become her lifelong fan because she is so worth it.
9.23.12 will be a day that I will never forget, and I want to scream out my special thanks to Sujin and Bambi who were such generous and wonderful people. Without them, my experience would not be the same =D
