King Ebobo set for Global Superstardom

Seismic news today, as my favourite player King Ebobo announces his intention to become a Hollywood comedian once his playing days are over.

What’s that Grabber? You think he’s already a complete joke? Now, now, that’s unfair – though he’s certainly been a great actor for some time. Just ask Patrice Evra.

The news has been made yet more exciting by King Ebobo making it clear that he wants to be “The next Eddie Murphy”. It’s easy to laugh at this – it sounds totally implausible - but this is the man who last season became a regular starter in the Arsenal midfield.

And they said it was impossible when he played centre-mid against Fulham away and we got humped. They said that Eboue’s career as a midfielder would come to nothing.

It all adds to the impression that King Ebobo is the most determined man in the world.

He’s a poster-boy for the fantasy of globalised capitalism. Like Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happiness, King Ebobo lives, breathes and embodies the American dream. He might only be our second-choice right-back, but to the questionably-talented millions, King Ebobo shines brightly as a beacon of hope.

Personally, I’m just hoping King Ebobois true to his word and emulates Eddie Murphy as closely as possible. I’ll be the first on Amazon’s pre-order list when the Beverly Hills Eboue series is released.

The man knows no limits. How long before he wins an Oscar? And how long, more importantly, before we finally get to see him deployed as a lone striker?

Arsenal’s Injury XI

So what’s going on? Well hey – guess what – this evening Kieran Gibbs has picked up the now mandatory injury playing in the England U21 qualifier away to Lithuania. We await further news, but who thought, when we lined up for the season with three left-footed left-backs, that where left-backs were concerned, we were a touch over-subscribed? I know I did. How foolish I was.

His is the latest in a line of injuries so long, that as far as I can see, should we need to field an Injured XI for one reason or another, we could put out a team that could well hold its own. The injury XI is a bit top-heavy, but it’s a pretty decent line-up. The below is based upon Arsenal.com’s own injury page, which I accept, might no longer be entirely accurate. For the sake of fitting all the players into a playable formation, I’ve gone 3-4-3. So anyway, how’s this:

                Fabianski

        Gibbs Djourou Clichy

Walcott Denilson Traore Wilshere

     Bendtner van Persie Vela

Quite honestly, the injury situation at the club takes some beating. I know plenty of other sides have – or have had – key players out this season, but we do seem to have been particularly heavily afflicted. And there’s no let-up, either.

As it stands, van Persie’s injury opens the door for Eduardo, who is just about the last striker standing. Walcott, we are told, is not far away. And there’s Vela – perhaps, if we could track him down. It’s a good job we’ve got Nasri and Rosicky back is it could mean a more central and advanced role for Arshavin.

Well, if we’re looking for someone with the X Factor, there’s always Theduardo.

Wenger抯 four options for replacing Gibbs

Just when we thought it couldn抰 get any worse it has. First it was Bendtner out with a groin problem then van Persie with his ankle and now it抯 Gibbs that抯 got injured while on international duty.

Add to these Denilson, Clichy, Diaby, Vela, Wilshere,Djourou, Fabiansky and Walcott and you can make another very useful first 11!

Gibbs was brought off midway through the first half while playing for the U21s against Lithuania and it抯 beginning to look difficult for Saturday抯 game against Sunderland.

So what are Wenger抯 options then?

1. Silvestre

He has been deployed there a lot of times during his tenure at Manchester United and also a few times for Arsenal. Although he has experience he is getting rather slow with age and I think this may prove a risky choice to take.

2. Senderos

He too has been in the sidelines raring to go but although much younger than Silvestre lacks the necessary pace and previous experience in this position to be able to perform.

He has been deployed as a right back for 15 minutes or so in an FA Cup tie at Blackburn a few years ago but was found extremely wanting.

Unlikely choice (hopefully)

3. Traore

He is a natural left sided player who was earmarked to develop as a left back and was actually deployed there in a few games while out on loan for Portsmouth last season.

He was however played as a left winger by Portsmouth for most of his appearances and he did impress me whenever I watched him play.

Wenger may decide to take a chance on the youngster who has Premiership experience after all but his relative inexperience may put him off.

4. Eboue

This is my likeliest choice. Although not a natural left footer he is now a seasoned Premiership player who is a defender after all even though he has, since last season, been played as a wide midfielder.

Arsene Wenger has been using him more as a right back recently giving Sagna much needed breathers and this will be the choice with the least risk attached to it.

Remember what happened to poor Gibbs when he was preferred to Eboue for the two Champions League semi final games against Manchester United last season? We don抰 want that happening to Traore.

They may be in the hunt for the Premier League and Champions League but Theo Walcott, Cesc Fabregas, Andrey Arshavin and Bacary Sagna took time out from Arsenal's trophy chase to help a good cause.
Fundraising Day - a short film starring winger Walcott, captain Fabregas, Russian playmaker Arshavin and French defender Sagna dressed as furry animals - is released today in aid of the Gunners charity of the season - Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.
