Gerard Houllier hailed his team's character after their vital win at Old Trafford on Saturday.
And the Reds' boss has backed his team to hold on to fourth place even with Newcastle only behind them on goal difference and with a game in hand.

Houllier believes that the win against their arch-rivals will give his team the boost they require as the finishing line approaches.
And Houllier revealed that a team talk before the game and the fact that he has a full squad minus Chris Kirkland to choose from could make the difference.
He said: "With the injuries we have had and the flak we have taken it is a mark of our character that we are still chasing fourth place with only three games to go. Now we need to show that until the finish.
"We had a meeting the day before the United game which I think will be important for the rest of the season.
"We have showed in winning at Chelsea and now Manchester United that we can compete with the best but this season has been very strange and very tough. It has been difficult.
"At times we have had more players injured than available, but with four games left we have everyone available and it can make a difference."
Still the Frenchman rues some of the season even before the tape is crossed. He added: We have had last-minute equalisers against us and penalty misses. We have not been able to compete with the others but had everyone been fit I know we would have done much better.
"We will not be as unfortunate with injury next season so I think the gap between us and the top three will close."
