Experience Beautiful Days, the classic 2001 Korean drama starring perennially popular leading man Lee Byung Hun (JSA, Everybody Has Secrets)! Lee leads a cast of stars as Min-Chul, a charismatic, but emotionally wounded man who hates his father. He bears ill will towards his half-brother, Sun-Jae (Ryu Si Won), but through their continued involvement with the beautiful, caring Yun Soo (Choi Ji Woo), and the selfish, but strong-willed Se Na (Lee Jung Hyun), the brothers have a chance to grow. Share their personal setbacks, bitter rivalries, sudden emotions, and the minor triumphs and surprising tragedies that are a part of being young and in love. For the four of them, these are easily their most challenging, but also their most Beautiful Days!
This edition of Beautiful Days features Japanese subtitles, and comes with a Photo book and 3 Character posters exclusive to this release!
"BEAUTIFUL DAYS" is a trendy drama of young people's love and dream surrounding music business and stars LEE Byung-hun form "JSA" and "BUNJI JUMPING OF THEIR OWN". It is from KIM Jong-hak Production, one of the most active and largest TV production companies in Korea and began the series on March 14th through SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System), one of nationwide networks in Korea.
Four young people work hard to get over their respective wounds each in their own way. Because of their wounds, these four are used by some but they also trample on others. The four leads behave this way not because they are absolutely good or evil but because fate and love have made them, at times, victims and at other times offenders. However, they do not let their wounds drive them into despair. In their own way, each of them strives and competes intensively to realize their dreams and love. Of course, success and happiness are not always waiting for them in the end. But they realize that those intense times ultimately healed their wounds and gave them hope-those were the 'beautiful days.'

One of the leading figures of the Korean Wave in Japan, the actress Choi Ji-woo, is generating renewed frenzy in the island country with her upcoming appearance in a drama specially produced to mark the 50th anniversary of Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS). It goes on air on Jan. 15. Walls in every neighborhood in Tokyo are plastered with posters featuring Choi side-by-side with the male Japanese lead Yutaka Takenouchi.
Japan's fashion and celebrity magazines have kicked into overdrive with special articles on the drama, many running features on the shooting locations. This is the first time Choi has been involved in a Japanese production, while Takenouchi is making his return to the small screen after a 10-year absence. TBS has embarked on a PR blitz to hype the drama and its own 50th anniversary. Little wonder then that there is a major buzz surrounding the production. TBS will air 揜ondo |

TV drama starring Choi Ji-woo records 20.6% viewership in Japan
The pilot episode of the Korean-Japanese TV drama "Rondo," starring top hallyu actress Choi Ji-woo, recorded viewer ratings of 20.6 percent when it aired in Japan Jan. 15 on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), reported Choi抯 agency, Yedang Entertainment, on Jan. 16.
TBS officially announced the figure via the Japanese viewership research firm Video Research.
Co-produced by Yedang Entertainment and TBS, the 11-episode drama co-stars Choi opposite Japanese actor Takenouchi Yutaka, and will air until March.
Given the 9 percent viewer rating of the pilot episode of "Winter Sonata" and the 6 to 8 percent ratings of "Stairway to Heaven" and "Beautiful Days" -- all starring Choi -- "Rondo" has every reason to be regarded as a sensation in Japan, where dramas with viewer ratings of 10 to 15 percent are considered hits. Shows with 15 to 20 percent ratings are considered big successes, and those with over 20 percent ratings, super-successes.
Choi herself says she was happy to learn that the drama's pilot episode turned out to be a big success, and was proud to be part of a joint Korean-Japanese drama that could serve as a turning point in the Korean Wave phenomenon.
Choi plays a woman who goes to Japan in search of her father, who left her when she was young, and ends up opening a Korean restaurant in Japan. Her character is also the love interest of two men played by Yutaka and Shin Hyun-jun.
The pilot episode of "Rondo" has received rave reviews from Japanese viewers who credited the series for starring two top leading actors and featuring an interesting plot in line with the lofty production costs of 100 million yen per episode.
Yedang is expected to reap substantial profits from the series. The company holds a 40-percent share in copyright and DVD revenues prior to the return of its 2.4-billion-won investment and a 30-percent share after the return, and a 50-percent stake in sales revenues of singer Lee Seung-chul抯 album featuring the drama's theme song.

Choi Ji-woo Sets her Sights on Hong Kong
With the Japanese mega-hit drama "Rondo" under her belt, Korean star Choi Ji-woo is set to make a foray into Hong Kong.
As the first episode of "Rondo," the special drama created in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), boosted the network's ratings to 20 percent as it took to the air on Sunday, Choi Ji-woo prepared for her visit to Hong Kong to attend the opening ceremony of a new Christian Dior shop at the Festival Walk in Kowloon this Wednesday.
The Hong Kong press speculated that the grand opening ceremonies will be packed with reporters and fans gathering to see Choi, as her popularity soared in Hong Kong after the drama "Stairway to Heaven" was aired in the territory. Choi has been active as an Asian model for Christian Dior cosmetics since March of last year.
This is Choi's first official visit to Hong Kong, which makes it all the more exciting for the press and fans, according to the papers there. A Hong Kong-based newspaper, Mingpao, reported that Choi Ji-woo is to be styled "marvelously" by a special Christian Dior-affiliate beautician using the latest products from the company for her appearance to cut the ribbon. The paper also added a detailed introduction to the shop, which is being touted as "the first beauty concept shop in the world."
The 120 minute-long special first episode of "Rondo" captivated Japanese viewers who applauded that the first episode was so well-made that it "seemed like a movie." In Japan, soap operas whose first episode brings in 20 percent or higher ratings are classified as "mega hit" as opposed to a mere "hit."
The ratings for the premier of the show that kicked-off the Korean Wave in Japan in the first place, "Winter Sonata," were a mere 9 percent of the viewing market, and those of the first episodes of "Stairway to Heaven" and "Beautiful Days" also were incapable of achieving more than 10 percent. When that is considered, the first episode of "Rondo" which raked in 20 percent ratings is a laudable accomplishment.
Choi says her hard work is paying off, but "I'm not going to let myself be content with the ratings of the first show. I want to incite a change that is the localization of the Korean Wave in Japan, and I'm going to giving it all I've got till the very end"

Hong Kong Media Praise Actress Choi Ji-woo for Good Manners
Actress Choi Ji-woo has been praised by Hong Kong news media outlets for her "good manners as befitting a hallyu star."
Writing a story on Choi who arrived in Hong Kong on Jan. 16, local newspaper Wenhuibao did not spare any praise for her, saying, "Despite her dark sunglasses, everybody recognized the tall good looking star Choi Ji-woo at a glance. She displayed good manners for her fans, leaving the airport only after waving to or shaking hands with them."
Choi arrived at the Hong Kong airport with two other film officials around 3:00 p.m. that day. She was reported to receive a warm welcome from journalists and film fans who had arrived before her, carrying placards and bunches of flowers. The local fans did not conceal their delight in taking a firsthand look at the actress by shouting her name and giving cheers as soon as they spotted her. Choi was barely able to come out of the airport only after having much difficulty plowing her way through the crowd of fans and journalists.
Choi is an Asian regional model for the designer cosmetics brand "Christian Dior." She is expected to attend the opening ceremony, including a tape-cutting event, of a new Christian Dior outlet located on Festival Walk in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Choi will stay at the Hong Kong Four Seasons Hotel, a super-deluxe five-star hotel that opened in October of last year. Choi will leave Hong Kong on Jan. 19 after winding up a tight four-day schedule, including shooting for a commercial film, in addition to attending the opening event of the Christian Dior store scheduled for Jan. 18.

Review by puccakiss79
Beautiful Days (Ah Reum Dah Woon Nal Deul) uses some of Korea's well known actors to deliver a story of two orphan girls, two step-brothers and their entangled tale of greed, secrets and disloyalty. The story gives the main characters a chance to gain wisdom through life experiences. Both the story and the actors execute a great melodrama.
The story is dynamic and realistically written. Showing the source of each main character's notable traits from painful experiences, the story starts in 1975, then forwards to 1985 and 1995, and finally picks up 5 years later in 2000 where most of the story takes place. Within the first two decades shown, the audience learns why Min-chul is unloving to most people, why his younger sister, Minji, is rebellious, and why Sun-jae is so obedient to their father. In 1995, the audience learns why there is heartache between Sina and Yonsoo. Even while the story falls short to offer definite conclusions to sub plots, it does offer closure by establishing the main characters |
