USS Vermont was a 74-gun ship of the line in the United States Navy. Laid down in 1818 and launched in 1848, she was one of the largest warships of her time. Although originally intended for combat, Vermont never saw active service due to advancements in naval technology that made her design outdated by the time of her completion. Instead, she served as a receiving ship, where she was used as a stationary vessel for housing and processing new sailors. Vermont remained in this role until she was decommissioned and eventually scrapped in the early 20th century.
