It has been 73 days since MH370 went missing. As we enter the tenth week of the search operations, we have now started moving into a new phase, which involves deep-sea search requiring specialized expertise and assets. As deliberated in the Tripartite meeting in Canberra, a team of hydrographic experts from Malaysia, China and Australia, met over the weekend and agreed that an extensive bathymetric survey of the areas provided by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will be carried out in the Southern Indian Ocean. This survey will be conducted by the Chinese navy vessel, Zhu Kezhen (872). The vessel is scheduled to sail for the survey area on Wednesday, 21 May 2014, weather permitting.

On a similar note, a team of technical experts had convened in Canberra to discuss and refine the satellite data, calculations and analysis which have been made available by Inmarsat.

In light of the recent demands by the Next of Kin (NOK) for the Inmarsat “raw data”, I have instructed the Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to discuss with Inmarsat on the release of the aforementioned data for public consumption. This is consistent with our stand for greater transparency and prioritizing the interests of the family members of those on board MH370.

Following the announcement by the Malaysian Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Transport on 19th May 2014, the Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is pleased to provide further information on the discussion with Inmarsat, assisted by the AAIB, to get a common descriptor for the Inmarsat satellite data which had been provided to Malaysia Airlines when MH370 first went missing.

It must be noted that previously where reference has been made to “data communication logs” and “raw data”- they refer to the same set of data.

In moving forward, it is imperative for us to provide helpful information to the next of kin and general public - which will include the data communication logs as well as relevant explanation to enable the reader to understand the data provided. It must also be noted that the data communication logs is just one of the many elements of the investigation information.

In line with our commitment towards greater transparency, all parties are working for the release of the data communication logs and the technical description of the analysis for public consumption.

DCA notes Inmarsat’s full support for the ongoing MH370 investigation.”

LONDON (Reuters) - British satellite company Inmarsat said it will release all the data it used to determine the final path of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 to help reassure relatives that authorities are searching in the right location.

Inmarsat said in a joint statement with Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) on Tuesday the data communication logs, or raw data, would be released along with an explanation of the analysis used to work out the route.

The Boeing 777 with 239 passengers and crew disappeared on March 8 during a scheduled service between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, and is believed to have gone down in the Indian Ocean, off western Australia.

In the hours after the aircraft disappeared, an Inmarsat satellite picked up a handful of pings from it, indicating that the plane continued flying for hours and helping narrow the search to an area of the Indian Ocean.

The plane has yet to be found, and there have been growing calls from the relatives for more transparency from the authorities conducting the search.

An Inmarsat spokesman said the data communications log comprised 14 pieces of data from seven "handshakes," or pairs of numbers, between the aircraft and the satellite. One number is time information, the other is frequency.

"Everything that was done, was done from those 14 numbers," he said.

The data and analysis would be available in about a week, the spokesman said.

Group: Explain MH370 discrepancy

PETALING JAYA: An international group wants Malaysia to explain the content of the preliminary report on Flight MH370 which highlighted a captain’s claims that the aircraft had never left the Malaysian airspace.

The unnamed captain claimed that based on “known information”, MH370 had never left Malaysian airspace.

“Why does he think that the plane never left Malaysian airspace or based on what information did he make this assessment?” asked the group aligned to American Phillip Woods, one of the 239 passengers and crew who had gone missing in the plane on March 8.

The group had sent an analysis of the Preliminary Report on MH370 via e-mail to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss and to representatives of various agencies involved in the search and rescue operation.

In an immediate response, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi said various countries, including the United States, Australia and China, had acknowledged British satellite firm Inmarsat’s calculation indicating that MH370 had crashed in the Indian Ocean.

“Inmarsat data indicated that the aircraft had flown across the Indian Ocean,” he said.

The Boeing 777-2H6ER plane went missing at 1.21am while en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Next-of-kin of the passengers and crew members had demanded for Inmarsat’s raw data to be made available to the public so that people could justify its deduction.

This had prompted acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to instruct the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to discuss with Inmarsat on the release of the raw data.

Aziz said the armed forces had verified a possible turn back, as no other aircraft was scheduled to fly in the area at that time.

Other questions raised by the group include why the Australian Defence Force, which allegedly had capability to observe northern air and sea activities up to 3,000km, did not confirm if it had detected MH370 over the Indian Ocean before it went missing.

The group also questioned why there were no radar feedback from Singapore, Thailand and Indo­nesia.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called on Boeing to explain its patent for “uninterruptible” autopilot system where an aeroplane could be controlled via remote access as part of its counter-terrorism measures.

Stressing that it was not fair to blame MAS and Malaysia over the missing plane, he said Boeing should have the answers as it built and equipped the aircraft.

Dr Mahathir said Boeing would have ensured the communications and GPS equipment in the aircraft could not be easily disabled, as those were vital to the safety and operation of the plane.

(CNN) -- The four acoustic pings at the center of the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 for the past seven weeks are no longer believed to have come from the plane's black boxes, a U.S. Navy official told CNN.

The acknowledgment came Wednesday as searchers wrapped up the first phase of their effort, having scanned 329 square miles of southern Indian Ocean floor without finding any wreckage from the Boeing 777-200.

Authorities now almost universally believe the pings did not come from the onboard data or cockpit voice recorders, but instead came from some other man-made source unrelated to the jetliner that disappeared on March 8, according to Michael Dean, the Navy's deputy director of ocean engineering.

If the pings had come from the recorders, searchers would have found them, he said.
Dean said "yes" when asked if other countries involved in the search had reached the same conclusions.

Underwater search for MH370 postponed for at least 2 months
"Our best theory at this point is that (the pings were) likely some sound produced by the ship ... or within the electronics of the Towed Pinger Locator," Dean said.

The pinger locator was used by searchers to listen for underwater signals.
"Always your fear any time you put electronic equipment in the water is that if any water gets in and grounds or shorts something out, that you could start producing sound," Dean explained.
He said it is not possible to absolutely exclude that the pings came from the black boxes, but there is no evidence now to suggest they did.
Here's what we do and don't know about new MH370 data

Key role in search
The pings have played a key role in shaping the search for the plane, which disappeared on a routine flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people aboard.

The man leading the hunt said earlier this month the effort was the most difficult in human history, but technology greatly increased the chances of success.

Search officials expressed "cautious optimism" in the pings when they were discovered April 5 and 8.
Angus Houston, the man leading the hunt for the missing plane, said as recently as this month that the pulse signals remained "the most promising lead" in the search.

The optimism stemmed from the fact the pings were detected near an arc where an Inmarsat satellite had last communicated with the plane.

And it was bolstered by the pinger's steady one-ping-a-second cadence, matching that of equipment known to be on the plane.

But caution stemmed from the ping's 33.3 kHz frequency, slightly lower than 37.5 kHz design frequency. There were also concerns because the four ping detection sites were miles apart.
But experts said crash damage or deep ocean pressures could alter the pinger frequency. And they said the plane's two black boxes could have been separated during an explosion or crash. And they noted sounds can travel far, and even echo, in underwater environments.

Dean said Wednesday officials were also concerned because, after twice detecting pings on April 5, searchers had difficulty reacquiring the pings the next day.
One incident -- the loss of the pinger signal on April 8 -- had the peculiar impact of both lowering and raising expectations. The signal loss made it harder to zero-in on the black boxes. But it also boosted confidence that they had found the pingers, since the batteries were expected to die at about that time.

First phase complete

On Wednesday, Australia ended the first phase of the underwater search, having finished scanning large areas around all four ping sites.

The Bluefin-21 was not able to look at one area in the northernmost ping area because of the depth of the water there, Dean said.

Australia said this week it will negotiate with private companies to conduct the next phase, which will resume in two months, if not longer.

It will take additional time to move new equipment into the search area, which is roughly 23,166 square miles (60,000 square kilometers), said Martin Dolan of the Australian Transportation Safety Board.

Tu aku suruh bdoa agar kbeneran muncul juga..berkaitan  MH370 ni...

perlahan2 banyak info sebelum ni nampak bercanggah. 4 acoustical ping bukan di lautan hindi, lepas tu data satelit immarsat tu ada kemungkinan tak tepat. info2 lain yang mungkin kena kaji balik handshakes menunjukkan kapal terbang masih terbang selama 7 jam (ada ke kemungkinan handshake ni berlaku walaupun plane dah on the ground/crash but engine still running??). MH370 yang buat air turn back mengikut radar TUDM (possible ke pesawat lain??). terfikir entah2 MH370 ni sebenarnya mungkin dekat2 je kat tempat signal dia hilang atau ke arah lain.
