The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are making a four-day official visit to Japan from September 19 to 22, 2025. The visit will highlight shared values and cooperation in areas such as education, sustainability, innovation, youth opportunities, and women’s leadership. On the first day of their visit, the Duke and Duchess met with Crown Prince and Crown Princess Akishino, and their son, Prince Hisahito, at the Akasaka Residence in Tokyo.

On the second day of the visit, the Duchess of Edinburgh met with Ukrainian refugees at the Ukraine Mental Health Exchange Center – Shibuya Himawari in Tokyo. The Center, a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to supporting Ukrainian refugees and evacuees in Japan. Over 1,500 Ukrainian refugees are currently registered with the centre.

On the third day of their visit to Japan, the Duke and Duchess visited Sojiin Temple in Koyasan, a historic temple founded during the Kyuan era of the Heian period.
