Sunday night dalliance with Dayang.

THIS woman can't be stopped.
She shouldn't be stopped.
I can therefore only wish Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty a speedy and smooth settlement of the legal predicament faced as regards contract disputes with the recording and management companies.
With such an extraordinary gift from God, it would be a tragedy were this talent to be corralled, not for anybody's exclusive benefit, but as penalty for refusal to be subjugated.
Already last Sunday's turnout at Planet Hollywood Kuala Lumpur, for her final segment of last month's Sunday Night Live series defied negative Press reviews of her poor show the first weekend.
Her second attempt showed marked improvement and by the third, Dayang was herself again.
Her fourth weekend was frenzied.
Nine-fifty-one in the pm and the queue into Planet Hollywood was long and pausing.
During performance, the standing room at the periphery of the dining area was four deep with fans.
At times like these, the management allows standing on bar stools and ocassionally you get the stray patron waving at the artiste from atop the bar counter.
Planet being Planet, the crowd was studded with known personalities as unusual.
As I took my table, I first noticed Fauziah Latif at the next.
Sure enough, a short peruse around located husband Johan Indot, sitting with Datuk Shahril Shamsuddin and Mukhriz Mahathir.
Quite a few tables that night had recognisable faces and notable names - Jeffery Milton, Diana Yusof, Roslan Wilkinson, Michael Ong, Anuar Zain, Rohila, Alex Eu, Shahzad Sultan, Yasmin Suraya Richardson, Yasmin Hani Richardson, Shawn Bahrain, Hisham Mahmood, Aiza Mahmood.
There were a few others I didn't recognise who had an air of repute about them as well.
Ill or otherwise, it's hard telling these days.
The excitement of Planet is that you never know who or what kinds of people you're going to see there on any given day, Sundays in particular.
Anyone less than Dayang performing for the night would not have been able to prise my sluggish heart and mind off the floor.
Show four was not like the rest save for the monotony of repeated duets with guests.
Dayang started the show with a P.
Ramlee instead of a Sheila Majid medley as she was reserving them for a personal serenade of the legend.
On both Di Mana Kan Ku Cari Ganti and Jeritan Batinku her pleading tone dragged hearts through fire.
The same soulful voice caused the getaran in Getaran Jiwa before reverberating through on a medley of Simply Red songs, without technical help from the audio equipment.
She then brought the rap group MOB for a group effort of Dilemma.
Had it not been for her voice booming through on the solo parts, Nelly fans would have been left wanting.
Innuendo did much better taking the parts of Boyz to Men to her Mariah on One Sweet Day but the notes were suspiciously chaotic.
Even when the ravingly popular Ruffedge and VE took to the stage as Dayang's guests, none seemed able to match her vocal magic.
So varied and numerous were the invitees that my colleague Azman, whose real name is Cleo, began talking about the Vienna Boys Choir.
Three people showed their worthiness on stage next to the Soul Princess - Afdlin because he wrote the song they sang (but I bet he can't act, direct or tell jokes), Anuar because he is the Prince of Voice and Sheila Majid because she went on stage.
The night's irony? Dayang is the one facing the courts and she didn't hit anyone. |

Oct 22 fixed for decision on injunction

(From New Straits Times (Malaysia))
KUALA LUMPUR, Mon. - The High Court today fixed Oct 22 to decide on an injunction application by a management company to stop singer Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty from making public performances without its consent.
Judge Datuk Hishamudin Yunus fixed the date when the matter, which was fixed for decision today, came up before him in chambers.
It is learnt that the matter was postponed following an application by Bintang Seni Sdn Bhd for time to reply to an affidavit submitted by Dayang Nurfaizah in the matter.
In the application, Bintang Seni is seeking to restrain the singer from making any public performances for any fee, reward or otherwise, except with the consent of the company.
It also seeks to restrain Dayang Nurfaizah from appointing or engaging a person or body to represent her as a personal manager and/or to procure contracts of engagements for monetary rewards or otherwise, until the disposal of the action.
It had also sought an injunction which required Dayang Nurfaizah to refer all offers for employment and performances to the company but it was dismissed by the court on Aug 4 following a preliminary objection by the singer.
Bintang Seni is one of three defendants in a suit filed by Dayang Nurfaizah on Nov 21 last year. The other two are Broadway Entertainment (M) Sdn Bhd and Lindung Seni Sdn Bhd.
In the suit, Dayang Nurfaizah is seeking a declaration that the contract she entered into with Bintang Seni in 1999 be declared null and void on grounds that, among others, she was unduly influenced by the directors of the defendants into signing it.
She wants the return of all payments, including RM600,000 she was to receive under the agreement, interest, damages, costs and other relief. |

Sweet music with friends
Publication: Asia Africa Intelligence Wire
Publication Date: 11/23/2003
...........
(From New Straits Times (Malaysia))
MUCH has been said about Anuar Zain and Dayang Nurfaizah's relationship. But nobody seems to know the truth behind it.
Will Anuar reveal anything about this during the ntv7 Raya special titled Anuar Zain & Friends? Dayang is a guest artistie along with Ferhad, Fairuz Hussein, who is coming out with her new album soon, and Flop Poppy.
"All the artistes invited are my close friends," said Anuar after recording the Raya programme at the ntv7 studio recently.
Anuar and Dayang make very good music as a duet. Their rendition of Kris Dayanti and husband Anang's hit number Makin Aku Cinta is simply breathtaking.
Anuar and Dayang's powerful vocals complement each other and together they effortlessly wowed the capacity crowd at the studio.
Good vocals combined with beautiful unplugged music by Mac Chew and Friends (read: Steve Thornton, Gary Gideon, Haji, Jamil Wilson a.k.a. Mr Ruhil Amani and Pacai) and it is small wonder the studio audience was bowled over.
Anuar's other friends - Ferhad, Fairuz and Flop Poppy - are as good as Dayang is.
Take Ferhad, for example. He might be Anuar's closest rival in the local R&B scene, but this has never stopped them from working together.
And the end result is a new Pernah - a delightful duet version. Anuar and Ferhad do in music what Real Madrid's Luis Figo and David Backham do in football; two of the best in the same area combining to do wonders.
Besides this, Anuar gets to perform with his idol, Fairuz, and his great admirer, Andy of Flop Poppy.
"I've been listening to Fairuz since I was a child. She has great influence in my music," admitted Anuar who will celebrate Raya in Simpang Merlimau, Malacca.
(Fairuz's fans should not miss the show as she will do her new single Let's Dance).
"It's like a dream come true. This is a good year for me," he added with a smile.
Yep, it has been a very good year for Ziana Zain's younger brother. He has won numerous awards this year, including the Most Popular Male Singer award at the Anugerah Planet Muzik in March.
He was also the Best Male Vocal at the Anugerah Industri Muzik in April and the recent Anugerah Era 2003.
Andy returns the compliment when he said: "It's a great honour to be considered one of Anuar's friends, especially for us who have listened to him from his Kain Pelekat days." Producer Seza Shahar said Anuar Zain & Friends was a casual programme about Anuar, his friends and fans.
"Anuar has loads of fun performing with his friends for his fans. He chooses all the songs himself, giving the show a personal touch," said Seza after the show.
"But, the main focus of the programme is, of course, Anuar's strong vocals. This is his strength.
"Anuar and his friends did, in fact, have fun singing their hearts out. It's so interesting." The programme is more or less like a night out at your favourite karaoke centre with your mates.
The only difference is while most of us syok sendiri - belting out one song after another - these people just grab the microphone and make sweet music.
"This is especially true with the last song for the programme - Keabadian Cinta by all the artists," said Anuar.
"We couldn't find a convenient time for everybody to rehearse, so it's almost a spontaneous effort - just take your cue and sing." This programme is Anuar at his best - in his natural milieu: surrounded by close friends and adoring fans.
So grab the pineapple tarts, ketupat, London almond biscuits and muruku and park yourself in front of the idiot box. This way you can enjoy both: Anuar and his friends as well as the Raya goodies.
* Anuar Zain & Friends will be shown on the first day of Raya at 10.30pm on ntv7. |

........
IT'S been four FOUR years since after Dayang Nurfaizah released her self- titled debut, but life hasn't really been a bed of roses for the fresh- faced lass from Sarawak.
When not pushing the boundaries to redefine pop music, the singer carries an enormous responsibility to represent bring her music to her fans at large.
Perhaps, growing up in the spotlight has been complicated, too, what with the highly-publicised court case involving her previous management company, Bintang Seni, which sought to stop her from employing a personal manager and performing in public without its consent.
(The management company is was one of the three defendants in a suit that was filed by the singer on Nov 21 last year. The other two are were Broadway Entertainment (M) Sdn Bhd and Lindung Seni Sdn Bhd.) Today, the 22-year-old, whose full name is Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty, is relieved.
Last month, she obtained the freedom to make public performances and appoint a personal manager following a High Court decision dismissing the application for injunctions against her by Bintang Seni until the disposal of her suit against the company.
She's as cool Cool as ever , she seems and determined to take a deep breath and appreciate the simple things life has to offer. again.
"The experience has taught me to be stronger," says the husky-voiced entertainer, declining to elaborate on the matter, which she refers to as, "a valuable lesson".
"I want to put every- thing behind and focus on my music career," she continues.
In between performing at private functions, Dayang is also juggling time with studio work. She is now in the midst of choosing tracks for her latest album.
Although it took two years to get to her new studio record, Dayang, who is embarking on what will be her fifth project, is thrilled.
"This album will be the best I've ever recorded. It's a tribute to my fans who have been continuously supportive of my career," says the R&B vocalist, who has released four albums - a self-titled debut (1999); followed by Sendainya Masih Ada Cinta (which spawned the award-winning title track); Hembusan Asmara (2001) and The Best of Dayang (2003), a compilation album of her hit songs including the award-winning Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta.
The yet-to-be-titled album is expected to hit the market by the middle of next year.
To date, Dayang has recorded two songs - Biar Akhirnya Di Sini (by singer/actor Afdlin Shauki) and a cover of Adam Ahmad's classic Kau Pergi Jua - - both produced by musician/producer Acis. The album will also include compositions by a mixed lineup of composers including the award- winning Ajai and singers Cat of the vocal quartet Ruffedge, Ferhad and Reshmonu.
"For the first time, I have a free hand in my album production. I just want to make the best of it," she stresses.
Dayang mentions that compared with her previous efforts, this album is aimed at a wider audience.
"I want to attract new listeners," she says, "and musically, this album will offer a `more mature Dayang'. As an artiste, it's a natural progression for me." According to her, the distribution deal for the album has yet to be confirmed. "I've received some offers from various record labels. Naturally, like any artiste, I want the best to enhance my career. For me, there's no need to rush to make a my decision. I'm still looking `shopping' around," she says.
From the look of things, she seems to have everything going for her.
Today, if Raya falls on Tues. the soulster will appear in Anuar and Friends, a musical hosted by the award-winning R&B/soul male artiste Anuar Zain, alongside guests Ferhad, pop outift Flop Poppy and Fairuz Hussein.

For Dayang fans outside KL, here's a piece of good news for you. The petite entertainer will be heading your way as she embarks on a mini road tour s covering major cities including Johor Baru, Melaka Malacca and Ipoh early next year.
"Things are still at the ir initial stage. s. We're still waiting for the official dates from the organiser," says Liza, who along with Dayang's sister-cum-manager Donna, assists the singer in the management of her day-to-day activities including dealing with record companies, public relations, people, co-ordinating tour dates, shows and etc.
"Dayang is also in the midst of re-compiling her fan-base too. All are invited to be part of Dayang's `family'," she says.

OVER four years in the industry, with perhaps more than half the time spent in obscurity, Dayang Nurfaizah's career is anything but a formula for success.
Once widely believed to be the likely successor to pop princess Siti Nurhaliza, Lady Luck didn't seem to be on her side at times.
There were disagreements in her working relationship with her label, Broadway Entertainment, which caused her to be embroiled in legal wrangles.
So until early last year when she decided to go her own way, she had no choice but to sit out most of the action in showbiz.
Quite a few believe many of the industry awards and honours that newer artistes walked away with, could easily have been hers if not for the misunderstanding between her and Broadway.
Now, with her fingers crossed and a renewed spirit, Dayang is finally ready to unveil her latest effort.
She said the delay in introducing her new album was due to budget constraints more than anything else.
It's understandable considering that she's new to the industry and has not been able to make full use of her time with Broadway to get well- heeled.
When pressed about the legal implications regarding recording this album, her matter-of-fact answer was: "Let the courts decide.
I'm no longer with Broadway." It may seem unfair that the issue should obstruct the comeback of the artiste who has been recognised as a trendsetter among the new crop of vocally aggressive artistes.
However, few will grudge her the right to control her career as she's among the talented few that the industry can rely on to deliver the goods.
Her future will, however, be a lot more clearer when she launches her new single today in An Afternoon with Dayang at Planet Hollywood, which will also see the relaunch of her fan club which has been inactive for quite some time.
"It's going to be an hour long show where I'll sing my favourites from my first three albums and also my latest songs," revealed the pretty singer in her trademark girlish giggle.
"I'll highlight the old tunes which I think still deserve attention, as well as my new, as yet untitled, single.
"It's a gift to the fans who have missed me all this while and especially for those underaged ones who have been complaining that they can't come to my performances like Sunday Nite Live.
"The old tunes will be sung with new arrangements to give them new life," she quickly added, sensing the uneasiness arising from hushed whispers that she might not be able to sing her old tunes.
(The copyright still rests with Broadway).
Last year at the same venue, Dayang announced that she was going to kickstart her flagging career with the Dayang 2003 showcase.
However, a year passed without it taking place, although she made a few high-profile appearances at awards shows.
But from now on, she said she would be able to keep her promises.
"My new album will be out this year! I really want to do it.
With the show, my single will be released, while songs from the coming album will be introduced." Names like Afdlin Shauki, Azmeer and new songwriter Rezam are said to be part of her songwriting team, but nothing has been finalised as yet.
"I don't really mind who writes the songs, as long as the quality is good." Word is that fans from Brunei and Kuching respectively will be present at the event to hand her their songs - with the hope that she will like, and eventually record, them.
Dayang has eight songs and she said it is always good to explore new creative talent.
The album itself, she said, will be in an eight-plus-one format, with the plus one track having an ethnic flavour with a Mediterranean touch.
"The format is a tried and tested concept that minimises fillers and is very cost effective.
I hope my fans can accept the format, as I'll make sure that all the songs are listenable." She said there was a need to change the mindset of many that according to `tradition', a release needed a total of 10 tracks.
This album is going to be quite different compared to her past work.
Dayang revealed: "For one, I'm more involved, to make sure that the songs suit me and that the lyrics are strong.
I just want to make sure that the end product is one that I will be proud of." Having been almost at the top, and at some point, almost scraping the bottom of the barrel, much has changed about this girl who used to be rather tongue-tied.
"Well, now I'm more focused, and I know what I want.
I'm more vocal and more keen on getting what I want rather than just following blindly like I used to.
I started out quite naive but after four years, I realise that a lot more has to go into my career." Now, emerging from her cocoon, Dayang is all geared to be in full charge of her life.
But she's not thinking of a drastic image change of the person fans have come to love.
"I'm comfortable with the way I am," she said.
Perhaps Lady Luck will make it a point to be with her this time.
As for her upcoming show, she will be backed by familiar names like Acis - her music director - on keyboards, Kelly (bass), Aji (guitar) and Fendi (drums).
Female vocal group Surreal will be her back-up singers.
The show will be followed by a meet-the-fans session.
Note that early birds will receive special door gifts while limited edition Dayang Nurfaizah merchandise will be available on sale.
Those who wish to join the Dayang Nurfaizah Fan Club can sign up at the venue as well. * Note that showtime for `An Afternoon With Dayang' is at 3pm.
Entrance is RM25 inclusive of one drink.

Jewellery house gets star endorsement

(From New Straits Times (Malaysia))
AS if she needed anything more to shine and sparkle, R&B singer Dayang Nurfaizah has been named the first-ever spokesmodel for jeweller K.M. Oli Mohamed.
"At last I get to wear the real thing!" exclaims the singer. She adds that she feels honoured for being chosen as a celebrity spokesmodel by the brand.
While she's at liberty to choose any jewellery to wear at public functions, Dayang notes that she also feels safer nowadays.
"I have the advantage of wearing priceless baubles and apart from this perk, there are also the bodyguards hired as an added security for my public appearances. They are discreet but always keep a watchful eye on me," she explains.
The most expensive piece she's ever worn is a diamond bracelet set in white gold comprising 57 princess cut diamonds and 288 round diamonds weighing between 13 and 14 carats worth RM170,040. Dayang wore the bracelet for the cover of Malay magazine Rias along with a handmade sequinned outfit from Pakistan.
On a personal note, Dayang's first jewellery purchase is a diamond ring and a pair of diamond earrings, both of which are set in white gold, which she bought late last year.
"I also own a necklace with my initials DN in diamonds set in white gold. I never leave home without it. After all, jewellery completes a woman's wardrobe." Where does she keep them? "In the safe deposit box at the bank. Definitely not at home!" K.M. Oli Mohamed store manager at Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Zubaidah Kassim says: "We chose Dayang because she is one of the most talented singers in the country. She has a huge following and her fashion sense is admirable too." Zubaidah also says that Dayang is the first celebrity spokesmodel for the company and that for the past five years, it has been a trend for jewellery houses to have star endorsements.
"Under the contract with us, Dayang can wear and flaunt our jewellery any time she likes and for whatever occasion. However, she'd have to return them after use. If she decides to purchase any, we'd give her a special deal," explains Zubaidah, adding that the duration of the contract has yet to be confirmed.
The brand carries tasteful jewellery with a high quality in terms of design and make.

KUALA LUMPUR: "Make your claims... we'll see you in court." This was the response of producer Boon Tan, who is also chief executive officer of Aneka Seni Music Productions Sdn Bhd, after singer Dayang Nurfaizah filed a suit against the company on Tuesday.
"I have not received the papers.
I only know of the suit from the newspapers, but all I can say is I choose to defend myself in court," he said, adding that referring the matter to the courts was the right move.
On Tuesday, Dayang filed a suit through Messrs Aizul Rohan Anuar & Associates, seeking a declaration that her recording contract had been terminated due to the failure of the defendant to abide by the terms and conditions, and that since her recording contract had expired, it could no longer be enforced. |

SHAH ALAM: Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty may have been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons recently, with her legal battle with her former management and recording label.
Yesterday, however, the 23-year-old Sarawakian smiled in relief for the first time in ages when Erti Hidup, a song composed by Afdlin Shauki and Aji, from her current album, made the cut among the four songs to represent the Irama Malaysia and Ethnic Creative category in TV3's 19th Anugerah Juara Lagu finals.
"My album was put together with blood, sweat and tears, and having my song in the Juara Lagu finals is ecstasy beyond description," said Dayang after this category's Muzik Muzik semi-finals at Sri Pentas 2 in Plaza Alam Sentral here yesterday.
"I am so grateful that I will return to Juara Lagu with a song which, for me, is a fresh start to my career." Despite her experience in this competition - her sleeper hit, the Ajai- composed Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta won the Ballads category at Juara Lagu 2001 - Dayang modestly shrugs off her chances.
"It is a whole new ball game.
In 2001, besides Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta, I also performed Bahagia in the Pop Rock category and thus had two chances of winning," she said.
"This is something new, and I will do my homework to improve my performance." Noraniza Idris, the queen of the Irama Malaysia and Ethnic Creative genre, brushed aside competition with ease when Hatinya Tak Tahan (self- penned and performed by Noraniza herself with lyrics by Syed Indera Syed Omar) booked a berth for the finals as expected.
"Hatinya Tak Tahan is a new phase of the ethnic creative sound I experimented with in my foray into song composition, and I am glad that it has been acknowledged and accepted," said Noraniza.
The other two songs which came out tops in the Irama Malaysia and Ethnic Creative category were Nazam Berkasih (composed by Suhami Mohd Zain, lyrics by Syed Indera Syed Omar and performed by Syura) and Syair Pesona (composed by Azhar Abu Bakar, lyrics by Azira Azid and performed by Sharifah Zarina).
Today at the same venue, there will be the third and final Muzik Muzik semi-finals, the Pop Rock category, again with 10 songs vying for four spots in the final. |

IT was jam-packed at Planet Hollwood in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday, with frenzied fans, including ARNI ABDUL RAZAK and AHMAD FAIRUZ OTHMAN, lapping up the show by Anuar Zain and Dayang Nurfaizah.
IT was madness, we tell ya. Planet Hollywood at 10pm was already packed to the rafters.
And there was still a long queue that went right up to Starbucks in KL Plaza: fans hoping to catch the Anuar Zain and Dayang Nurfaizah show.
By 10.30pm, the place was so packed that there was no room for movement - even on the chair. Visit the washroom? Forget it! The crowd yelled when the lights were dimmed. The dynamic duo was on stage, and what a handsome pair they made.
Clad in lovely Raya outfit, they started the show with Anuar's infectious Suasana Hari Raya, followed by Uji Rashid and Hail Amir's Raya anthem Seloka Hari Raya.
It was a good start and Anuar and Dayang seemed to have hit all the right notes.
Anuar, for one, definitely didn't have to sing that night. He just had to stand on stage and look pretty and the fans would have happily sung his songs for him.
But sweet Anuar sang of course.
Despite the chorus of voices from the crowd, he didn't have any difficulty belting out the tunes with his strong vocals.
Dayang, however, occasionally had problems. Put that down to the loud music and the deafening crowd who "drowned" out her voice when she hit the lower keys.
But all in all, Dayang and Anuar gave a fine performance. They appeared comfortable with each other. Yes, there were some `cheeky moments', adding weight to rumours of romance between them.
The songs delivered that night seemed carefully chosen. Both sang their favourite Indonesian songs - Glenn Fredly's Januari for Anuar and Ruth Sahanaya's Kaulah Segalanya for Dayang.
And they did some duets of Oleta Adams' Get Here, Kini Bebas (Anuar's song with Camelia), Pusaka Rimba (Dayang's song with Ziana Zain) and Kita Insan Biasa (Jay Jay and Dayangku Intan).
Anuar sang his hit numbers which included Jangan Bersedih Lagi, Mungkin and Kembalilah Kasih, while Dayang belted out her catchy Dayang Sayang Kamu, as well as chart toppers like Mana Mungkin and a remake of Adam Ahmad's Kau Pergi Jua.
The two singers also belted out tunes that will feature in TV3's 19th Anugerah Juara Lagu to be held on Dec 26 - Anuar's Semua Untukmu and Dayang's ethnic number Erti Hidup.
Anuar also sang Dayang's Hakikat Cinta and Di Sini Bermula, much to the delight of her fans, while Anuar's fans helped her sing his numbers like Sesucinya Cintamu and Rindu Belaian.
The show ended at 1.15am when the pair did their final encore.
Dayang did Biar Akhirnya Di Sini while Anuar sang his haunting Keabadian Cinta and together they harmonised in Sheila Majid's Inikah Cinta.
"I'm very happy to see so many people and I'm gonna take pictures of all of you," said the cheeky Anuar.
Said Planet Hollywood's marketing manager Sharina Ahmad earlier this week: "We planned this double billing because we wanted our Sunday Nite Live series to end with a bang and we're very happy that they had agreed to perform." * Planet Hollywood's Sunday Nite Live series with Anuar and Dayang starts tonight at 10.30pm. Entry is RM40, inclusive of one drink. For inquiries, call 03-21446602. |

Dayang's personal cut.

...........
DAYANG NURFAIZAH - Dayang Sayang Kamu
IF you want to know about Dayang's true musical side, get this album. She had a hand in everything - from bearing the production costs to taking total creative control over her music, resulting in a purely personal Dayang style.
Die-hard Dayang fans would be totally sold on this album, even though she may have gone slightly over the top with her R&B goreng.
A friend especially pointed out Adam Ahmad's Kau Pergi Jua.
I beg to differ, however.
Her Mariah Carey-like voice has morphed into something uniquely Dayang.
Guess a happy personal project forced it out of her.
That Dayang style - in every sense of the word - is so evident in the album that you can almost see the girl with her left palm wide open while the music plays on.
You get the happy Dayang on the first track, and you get the passionate woman in Kau Pergi Jua.
This is her fifth album, and in her own words, "a tribute to my fans who have continuously supported me throughout my career".
So you can hear every ounce of the young Sarawakian in every word.
I dare say this is her best effort so far, in terms of musical choice as well as styling.
Crystal-clear sound and great melody and arrangement make this album a must-have.
This 12-track pop album includes Aku Rindu Aku Jemu, Ku Ingin Mu Kembali, Andaiku Tahu, Lagu Cinta, Seketika, Cinta Tiada Lain, Coretan Cinta, Ku Setia, Biar Akhirnya Di Sini and Erti Hidup.
She collaborated with with local and Indonesian composers, including singer-actor Afdlin Shauki, Azlan Abu Hassan, musician-producer Acis, Damian and Lah of V.E, Cat of vocal quartet Ruffedge and singer Hazami. Indonesian singer-composer Denny Saba (responsible for Sheila Majid's hot Inikah Cinta) also has a hand in this work. |

Dayang to hit silver screen next year.

..........
(From New Straits Times (Malaysia))
Byline: FARIDUL ANWAR FARINORDIN
SINGER Dayang Nurfaizah will add another feather to her colourful cap soon, starring in her first feature film by an Indonesian director. It also stars award-winning young Indonesian actress Dian Sastrowardoyo as Dayang's best friend. Dayang speaks to FARIDUL ANWAR FARINORDIN about her experience.
Q: Tell us more about your upcoming movie.
A: Shooting will begin next year in Indonesia. All I can say is that it's a love drama. There are two girls and one guy - I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to say what the story is about.
Q: How did it happen?
A: For the last two years, the production company has been urging me to make my starring debut but I declined. I was tempted, but I was also scared. I don't think I can act, so I don't want to disappoint a lot of people including my fans. But when the producer told me that the role was written specially for me, I was touched. I also don't want to disappoint those people who have put their faith in me and my talent. That's when I decided to try. I knew that if I decided to wait until the right time comes, then I'd probably wait forever.
Q: How are you preparing for the role?
A: I've just read the script and I am so nervous and excited. Before filming begins, I'll enrol in an acting class in Indonesia. That will help me a lot. I also watch a lot of love dramas from my movie collection and look at the acting techniques of renowned actors. Acting is more difficult than singing but I look forward to the challenge.
Q: Who are your favourite actors?
A: Will Smith, Meg Ryan and Academy Award-winners Julia Roberts and Jodie Foster. I consider myself a kaki wayang (movie buff) but I don't get to see movies as much as I want to because I am always busy with singing engagements. The last film I saw was the drama The Four Brothers.
I liked it.
Q: Have you ever imagined seeing yourself on the big screen?
A: No, I can't even watch myself on TV! I guess I have to brace myself when the time comes. The thing is I'm very self- critical. Q: What about your fifth album? A: It will be released on Nov 28 nationwide and is tentatively called Kasih - that's also the first single from the album. This album means a lot to me because I've had more creative freedom in song composition and music arrangement this time. It's nothing like I've done in the past. I can't say more because I want it to be a surprise.
Q: Where will you be this Hari Raya?
A: I'm spending more than a week in my hometown, Kuching. I don't know how I'm going to carry all 25 jars of Raya biscuits that I have bought for my family members. They include my favourites - jam tart, shortbread cookies and London almonds.
* Nxt year in this article means 2006, skrng dah almost at the end of 2007 dah.. |

HAVE you checked out the song Satu Penentuan over TV3? With music by Ahmat Shariff and lyrics by Siso (Kopratasa), the song sung by Camelia and Dayang Nurfaizah is TV3's first election song. The station has come out with this maiden effort to help viewers get into the swing of the general election.
"Satu Penentuan is just one of the many patriotic songs I've composed over the years. It was a great honour when TV3 approached me to compose the song," said Ahmat in a Press release.
Ahmat has been crafting commercial as well as patriotic songs since the `70s.
Immediately after the telephone call from TV3, "it only took me three days to put the song together. Such is my passion when I am excited about a certain project!" He likens the experience to making a table. "We all know how to make a table because we have the right tools. One designer might make his table three-sided. I can make mine four-sided, but what matters is it's still a table. The same applies to the `making' of a song," he said.
"We have all the tools, we just design the pattern with creativity and sensitivity," he added.
The tune of the chorus, he said, is meant to be "catchy and easy to remember and has a happy tone to it too". "When the right mood is there, it's smooth sailing all the way." That's how he remembered the great hours recording Satu Penentuan with Siso, Dayang and Camelia.
Siso said : "This is my first time wriing lyrics for a patriotic song. But I've written other patriotic songs before such as Keranamu Malaysia and Jalur Gemilang." For Satu Penentuan, Siso said his message was focused more on young voters.
"When I was selecting the words for the song, I kept reminding myself the words should be simple and catchy. That is why I believe most who have listened to the song would find the melody and lyrics catchy, especially the chorus," he said.
"What's beautiful about the song is the chorus - Undilah ("Go and Vote") - is the core message of the song," he added. |

Gemuruh Dayang
Kadangkala dia tersenyum sendirian apabila teringatkan zaman remaja sebelum memasuki dunia artis.

"Lagu-lagu saya separuh muka surat saja.
Could I Have This Kiss Forever.
Tiada apa yan perlu dirisaukan lagi. Jalan cemerlangnya sedang luas terbentang. Selamat Hari Jadi, Dayang! |

DAYANG'S REVOLT
MALAY MAIL
20/9/06
Dayang's revolt
-by Adly Syairi Ramly -
DAYANG Nurfaizah, who was booted out of 8TV? reality talent search programme One In a Million (OIAM) last Friday, has given the organiser some food for thought.
She suggested that they change the name of the programme to The Most Popular One In A Million.
But don? get her wrong. She is not a sore loser. She feels that the viewers are not voting for the right reasons.
?aybe the voting system needs to be revised as it gives viewers the power to eliminate the ones they?e not supporting,? she said.
Unlike other reality talent search shows, in which voters can only vote for their favourites, in OIAM, fans can also vote out contestants they do not like.
?he system distracts people from voting for the right reason ? one? talent,? she said.
She wants the organiser and viewers to take her criticism constructively.
?y comments are not out of bitterness but my honest take on the programme.?
? have no regrets at all. If I? going to regret my involvement with One In A Million, I wouldn? even have taken part in the first place,? she said.
?eople have asked me why I downgraded myself by taking part in the competition. The thing is, One In A Million is a platform for me to move forward,? she added.
Dayang broke down on TV after it was announced that she had been eliminated but she said her emotion reflected her disappointment.
Shocked by the viewers? verdict, she could not fight back her tears as she performed her farewell number at the start of last Friday? show.
? was hoping to at least make it to the finals. But hey, life goes on. That? not the end of my career. As a matter of fact, I was already in the recording studio the following day to work on my new album,? she said.
What led to her elimination? ? could have been seen as a threat to other contestants.?
Looking back at the whole idea of the show, there are some truths to what Dayang said.
One in A Million was supposed to be a local singing talent search reality show that aspires to discover the best and most talented singer in the country.
At stake is RM1 million singing contract as well as the best album production, the best marketing strategies and the best of just about everything.
Dayang had even pushed aside her commitment to star in Luka, a Malaysian-Indonesian joint-venture feature film, which postponed shooting from June to early next year.
She will act alongside popular Indonesian actress Dian Sastrowardoyo. |

Dayang, Ruffedge hibur anak Pernim
Hadir sama, Pengurus Besar Hotel Dorsett Regency, Christina Toh.

dayang laughs off rm60,000 pay-off
Dayang laughs off RM60,000 pay-off
-by Joe Lee -
THE loss of potential revenue sustained by Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty in 10 weeks of the One In A Million far outweighs the amount rumoured to have been paid to her to gracefully leave the show.
She said talk that she received RM60,000 from the organisers to leave the reality TV talent search was nonsense as it was ?uch a small figure?.
Dayang maintains the ?oing price?, if any, would have been more than just a third of her losses.
?n the 10 weeks of competition in One In A Million, I incurred losses of about RM180,000 in potential revenue from shows. During that period, I could only accept limited number of shows on weekdays.?
Laughing off the rumours, she said: ?f there was such a thing, I wouldn? have settled for that figure. It? such a small figure.?
Rumours have been rife amid dissatisfaction when Dayang missed the cut for the finals that her departure was ?lanned?.
The R&B songbird also shrugged off rumours of bad blood between her and several other contestants, who according to sources, had been talking behind her back and engaging in backbiting even after the competition.
? have not heard of the rumours. Or at least, I haven? heard anything said to my face. I? okay with it. Everything? normal.?
Dayang was, however, not amused over the reported cattiness and said: ?hatever it is, I already have four albums to my name. If they are saying anything about me behind my back, I think it? petty. I have heard the comments made by some contestants on the diary reports on the progress of the show, but if there? anything beyond that, I think it? silly.
?hey don? know what? waiting for them outside. The industry is bigger than just a competition and I think they have the mistaken assumption that it? easy to survive in the local music industry.?
Bitchiness aside, Dayang had no regrets entering the show.
?n a lot of ways, the show has had a positive impact as I?e been able to hone my showmanship.?
And now, she is ready to launch her latest offering, her fifth studio album by the year end.
?ow, I am trying to finish the recording process before the end of the fasting month.?
The album will come after Dayang Sayang Kamu which was released on Oct 31, 2004.
